Anyone does Ubereats in Liverpool, NSW?

Hey there,

I am thinking of starting Ubereats in Liverpool, on weekdays night and on weekends. I am aiming for 10-15 hours of work per week. I have sedan, but full efficient. Should I buy hatchback for it?

How much I can expect to make in 10-15 hours per week?

Thanks.

NO….. You don't even know how much you'll make, so use what you have to start with.

Depends, you are paid per job, not per hour. So you might sit around for hours and get no jobs, so no pay.

You normally get peanuts per job, $3-7 after uberfees etc depending on far you have to go etc.

Ever wondered why Uber doesn't list the pay rates until AFTER you sign up?

You have a car but will buy a second car to do ubereats? Stick with the one car… Have a think about parking. A scooter might be better.

Especially with the apartments in Liverpool. Or if you have to deliver near where the Paper Mill is

If you're buying a car specifically for ubereats, then you'll probably net $3/hour after that and the other expenses. lol

Say you earn $6 per job. You need to wait for food to be ready in busy resturants, so might be able to do 3 jobs an hour. If you manage 15 hours a week x $18 = 270. Now take off 70 for fuel and maybe a third for tax = perhaps $110 per week left. You’ll also need to buy new tyres, depreciation and servicing and change your insurance type. You might make $80 a week. Assuming you can get 3 jobs an hour (which you wont) and actually do 15 hours a week. Sounds like a lot of time and effort for a measly few grand a year. And if you need car repairs from all the extra driving, you might clear $2000 a year from 780 hours work.

If he gets into a single accident then it would have been more profitable to sit on his ass at home instead.

lol, looks like not for me then.

I thought I could make millions (lol jk, I thought I'd be making at least $30 per hour, driving and listening to music) :P

good on you for being proactive and asking questions though! I've thought about it too… ubereats is mainly for people to make money in their spare time, not to replace their full time job. hence hourly earnings would be less as the barrier to entry being an uber eats driver is low, and thus big supply of drivers.
better off using that time to do online-courses and acquire new skills for a better paying full-time job. good luck!

There are hours you might make $25+/hr, but stepping back and looking at it, food delivery is very time related. So you need to pick your hours you work very wisely. But the pay doesn't scale. There might be 2 hours of $25-30/hr a night, but it doesn't scale if you wanted to do 8 hours each night, unless its like a Fri or Sat night.

As you don't want too many hours a week, sign up and give it a shot, just use your current car. You'll get a feel for it and if its worth. There is a $750 signup bonus at the moment for new ubereats partners. So sign up now and do 30 deliveries by end of March and you get $750 bonus.

Interesting. The one that just finished in jan was $500. They must be short of drivers and are incentivising new ones.

It might be worth it just to get that bonus, but after that, nah.

Uber is always running promos for new drivers or delivery partners. The crap rates mean people cycle out very quickly!

Agreed, OP should give it a go, as with a $750 bonus, it's worth it. But then after that, maybe not.

Never understand Uber and its crap pay rates. Rather than bumping the rates a bit, they do bonus for new starters etc. Who then leave. But that is uber as a company, screw over everyone at every turn, and yet still hasn't made a profit EVER.

This shows that they've established that enough people will remain on it to make it worth the offer. Just like sports betting with deposit bonuses or banks with signup bonuses for credit cards. Enough people will hang around.

            Neither did Twitter.

They're in it for the long haul.

OMG did you just compare twitter to Uber? Come on, they are not even remotely the same.

Uber takes 30-35% cut of everything that flows through it, doesn't follow the laws etc, pays 'contractors' like crap, and yet after all these years STILL hasn't made a profit.

They're in it for the long haul.

Its a 12 year old company that hasn't made a profit…. There is the LONG haul and then there is this….. Uber doesn't have a plan to make profit yet, they keep pivoting. For such a unicorn company, it hasn't crapped out a diamond yet.

Heck even Tesla is making profits these days and as of last qtr has broken even with profits to cover all earlier losses from its start. I don't think Uber will ever say that! They continue to lose billions each YEAR.

Uber had US$11.139 billion Revenue in 2020, and somehow clocked up a loss of US$-4.863 billion the same year. Let that sink in for a minute….. a 12 year old company lost another $6.7 billion aussie dollars doing what?

              • @JimmyF: Alright I'll give you that one. Fair points.

                This made me laugh.

  • i think its more lucrative to work the sydney cbd on a bike - pure pedal power and short journeys

  • Should I buy hatchback for it?

you shouldn't buy anything for it,

They just finished up a deal where if you did a min number of orders before Jan 31st you'd get an extra $500.

TBH I don't think it's worth it at all . Not only do you get paid absolutely nothing, you need to factor in tax (yes, tax), fuel, wear and tear and unseen time like waiting etc. you'll find that your hourly rate very quickly becomes much below minimum wage.

One measure of if it's worth doing is looking at who does it. The people who do it are not exactly making bank from it.
