Giraffes are unreliable sources for 'lowest' prices….

  • This or the Aldi fryer?

    • If you have a tiger rice cooker, get this other wise Aldi/Kmart.

I had the Kmart fryer. Loved it, but it died recently after ~18 months. Prior to that I had an older Philips 'basket type' air fryer.

Kmart pros: Plenty of surface space across three layers, easy to use, loved the dehydrator function (made DIY biltong)
Kmart cons: Food didn't cook evenly (upper trays so much faster than lower*), cook times pretty slow. * I know hot air rises, but I assumed the circulation would be better

My previous basket air fryer would cook food typically in 3/4 of the suggested oven cook times. My Kmart one would be about the same as oven time, sometimes a little longer.

I believe the Philips will cook food quicker, probably more evenly (?), will have better build quality and last longer. Main cons: less surface area (even with 2nd layer tray) and much more $.

  • Philips always seems to cook alot better then the cheaper versions. But given that you can buy a couple cheap versions for the same price and spread out your cooking

    • A couple of cheap one will be hard to keep if you have limited/small kitchen bench.

Anyone have this air fryer? It’s on sale for $350.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/TEFAL-Grill-Steam-Fryer-FW2018/dp/…

My friend has one and she loves it. Comes with a grill plate for steaks and also has a steam function for dumplings and veggies.

The Philips has an optional baking tray for $50 that you can use to put veggies in for a stir fry or similar result. This one doesn’t have that.

I’ve got the small Philips one and it’s good. The mesh basket allows all the oil to drip down. Issue is it’s a bit small at times and cleaning these things isn’t exactly easy with all the oil and gunk they accumulate. The large air fryers look huge though.

  • I got this one from the eBay special a few weeks ago for about 350$. I haven't used it.

Paid $399 for this back in January from Amazon so good price.

Was dubious over buying one “as it’s just a convection oven” but decided to try one because of friends raving about air fryers.

It’s been used everyday since being brought. Diced chicken breast, marinated, comes out perfect after 5 mins on the chicken setting. Sweet potato wedges, similarly as quick. Crisps up fish skin well if prepared properly. Etc etc, I should of got one sooner.

Can’t compare to other models but more than happy with the purchase. Only thing I would say and probably true for all air fryers is if cooking a meal for the entire family is you need to get creative if cooking multiple ingredients because of the size, or use two of them.

  • Also on sale at Myer for the same price! I picked one up this afternoon
