  • What is your use case?

    • work and games

I would spend more on a PSU with at least 500W.

    • on pcpartpicker it says it only draws 363W and it's bronze. Wouldn't it be enough?

      • +4

Its not just about wattage its also about efficiency, and bronze is the least efficient of the 4 ratings.

I would at least get a 500w with gold efficiency.

The EVGA has enough power for that PC. I'm thinking more for future graphics card upgrades where you can reuse the PSU. I prefer semi or fully modular PSUs without the extra unnecessary cabling.

Something strange with the specs in that:
    1) low end CPU, CPU comes with cooler, but buying a separate cooler.
    2) SSD and large monitor and decent GPU, but low end CPU.

Low end CPU V's other components.

Seems odd and no mention of what it is actually going to be used for.

    • i read that the 12100 is better than the 11400 and 3600 so i thought I'd jump on new tech.
i also read that the intel cpu cooler is pretty bad.
it is being used for work (not intensive stuff) and games

I reckon you'll be fine with stock cooler for an i3

the Deepcool Gammaxx 400 V2 Blue CPU Cooler is also old / discontinued, it will not fit the new rectangular Intel socket either. You will need to order an adapter from Deepcool to fit it.

    https://global.deepcool.com/company/pressroom/newsrelease/20…

While it is "free", in double air quotes, you still need to pay a shipping fee to get it to Au.

The stock cooler honestly shouldn't be too bad, i would stick with the stock cooler and see whether the noise levels are tolerable. If it isn't then consider replacing it afterwards.

    • thanks for that. I'm thinking to replace with either the ID-COOLING Sweden Series SE-224-XT ($35) or Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 XT ($29). Any thoughts on those?

'Games' is pretty intensive on a computer.

Have you got an idea of what sort of games you want to play, and what sort of performance you expect to see in them?

You've chosen a 1440p monitor which is also going to be tougher on any graphics card than 1080p.

    • i plan to play AAA titles on 1440p. Hope to reach 144hz on medium. I read that on 1440/4k it is on the graphics card and that the 6600xt should be sufficient.

      • +2

Yea, sufficient at 30fps on low/med. I wouldn’t bother with a high hz monitor with low/mid range card. Save your money and get a 1080p monitor and put it towards a 6 core cpu or go up a tier in card.

      • +4

Unlikely CPU and GPU are sufficient for 144FPS at 1440p, even in current AAA … you would have better chance with DLSS from a 3070/Ti …
Or just get a 1080p monitor for the 6600XT …
        Halo Infinite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr9TORbHA2M
        (1440p @ Ultra 6600XT - 59FPS)
        (1080p @ Ultra 6600XT - 77FPS)
        7

  • I'd be going a better processor and PSU.. if you want any sort of future proofing - at all.

Spec looks much like what the PC Builder Jason would recommend. He would probably suggest a H610M instead of a B660M board.

  • I think you should wait for another $1700-1800 deal from Techfast or BPC and you’ll probably pick up a 3060ti rig that will perform much better. Water cooler seems pointless on an i3. Especially as you won’t be overclocking. Just stick with an air cooler or the included one.

  • Then try and grab the monitor on top. I wouldn’t want to be 1440p gaming on the 6600xt imo.

    • monitor on top?

      • Sorry I mean the BPC / TF deals normally run about $1700-1800 or so and therefore if you’re trying to stick to a $1900 budget you’d need to maybe stretch to $2000-2100 with a monitor, but I’d say worth it for the gain in performance.

        • i could add a 3060ti to my build instead of $300 more but I don't think the value is there is it?

          • @follow: Not if you’re buying on your own. When buying a techfast or BPC deal they get good pricing across a range of parts and so it wouldn’t be $300 more just for the 3060ti, you’d also get a few other parts better.

            • @Pelicannn: Ends up around the same price really and I get to choose my own parts.
What I learned from the comments sections of the $1699 Dell 3060ti deal is people who bought it were able to sell the psu sans gpu for $900. Wish I thought of that. I'll probably hold out for something like that and get this for now.

              • +1

@follow: There was a 3080 deal a while back that came with all peripherals and a $600 monitor for under 3k. Missus picked that up. Sometimes dell have some incredible deals that you can look past the average cooling and proprietary parts, plus as you said you can just take what you want like the CPU, GPU etc and still find it cheaper than doing it yourself.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.
I've ended up ditching the cpu cooler and will go with the stock Intel one.

Changed to a motherboard with Wifi and Bluetooth 5.2 to allow for a wireless keyboard and mouse if I were to get.

I will see how I go with the i3-12100f and 6600xt for now and may in the future switch to an i5-12400f and 3060ti if I see a decent deal.

  • Does anyone have any opinions on which extended mat to get? I have my eye on the MP511 at the moment.
