Really good deal on a solid RTX 3070 laptop. Having purchased the previous deal's X15 Q w/ 3070 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674128) I can personally vouch for the solid magnesium alloy chassies, mechanical keyboard with excellent travel and one of the best trackpads.

Would have definitely picked this up over my $2400 X15 Q which just has +16GB ram and +1TB ram over this deal. Oh well, at least I get to make an OzBargain post about it.

Did see people complaining about issues with the cooling (possibly driver related, fans do not spin upon waking from spin), but aside from that, the laptop is amazing for the value.

Laptop is an unbranded Intel X15 NUC which is 'built' by BPC (They install the RAM + SSD). Windows is preinstalled but is NOT activated.

Full specs Here, be sure to look at the 3070 SKU, also remember that it is BPC's responsibility, not Intel's for the SSD and RAM so those specs are not listed here. Not sure what is in these laptops and if they are the same as what others have been getting in the other Kraken laptops.

    How long does battery last when doing normal web browsing and office work? Can this be charged via USB C?

      No USB-C charging, as the laptop requires way higher wattage than USB-C can supply. As for the battery life, it ranges between 5-9 hours depending on the tasks of course, but I've just been using mine for web-browsing and video consumption while I wait for Uni to start.

      With the Intel NUC studio software, as well as the dedicated performance button (next to the power button), you can dial in the performance quickly and easily depending on your needs. I just leave it at battery saver for light tasks, the CPU is more than capable anyway.

          As far as I know, only Lenovo and Asus provides USB C charging with their gaming laptops. No other brand currently does this.

    You should point out that this does not come with windows license. Which is a big cost for some people. Might not be worth the $100 saving over the other deal.

    This one is also QHD 165Hz rather than FHD 240Hz in previous deal.

      Good point. For me, I just logged into my Microsoft account and clicked buttons on the Windows activation screen until my laptop became magically activated. Said I recently changed the hardware, so I probably stole it from an old laptop I had.

        If you bought from the previous deal it should have its own windows license. The lite version does not.

      Just buy/grab some random Windows 7 key and then upgrade it yourself to Win10. Prob cost $10.

      BPC Technology, they use an Intel NUC Laptop Kit and add the memory and storage, they then sell it under the name Kraken.

        I would actually say that Intel is the OEM. It's an Intel NUC that is already pre-built. BPC Tech, add the memory and storage to complete it.

          There are discussions on other threads on ozbargain you may want to lookup.

          How the laptop behaved will have a lot to do with the resolution of the external monitor and your usage. I'm assuming gaming. At 1080p it won't break sweat but it will struggle if you are using it at 4K.

                  @mattkirkey: You are welcome mate. @Brrrt has often done comparisons and outlined the pros and cons of the Kraken v Legion but if I'm spending $2000 I want an established brand name with the proven warranty support. The Kraken looks great on paper and even better if you use an external monitor but I'd buy the Legion personally.

          The PCI lanes the SSD uses are connected directly to the CPU as opposed to going through the chipset. The SSD isn't on the CPU.

      they sold this "kraken" branded laptops here on other posts. From what others are saying, no branding stickers etc found in their purchases.

      there's no branding. the lid is plain black, no stickers or anything. no other signs of any brand anywhere

    an important fact is that this is without any windows licence

    I got the X15 F (3070, FHD) for $1999 with windows included

    I returned mine but that's another story. just couldn't get the cooling system to work as it should. it was overheating and something was creaking inside. damn scary

    also coil whine from keyboard backlight on battery power. loud and annoying

    other people said theirs isn't that bad, so I guess QC isn't perfect.

                @CVonC: For whatever reasons, PCCG are selling the lower 3060 barebone for more than the above deal.

                When my friend got his X15 3060 from BPC for A$1,599 with components, it was a great deal especially because Intel uses the top TDP for their GPU's.

    weird, I just missed out on their 3060 qhd a few weeks ago, really wanted the high res screen. spoke to them for a couple of weeks about a replacement and that the 3070 qhd option was a bit too much of a price jump (at the time), and they were adamant that new stock was nowhere on the horizon

    so are these a batch of new stock, or leftover original 3070 qhds stripped down, or returned stock back in store

      Competitive fps gamers prefer a higher refresh rate and prioritise that over resolution. I'm a gamer and personally would prefer 165hz QHD though

      I am the member of the FHD camp. in the games I play, FPS are more important than details, and FHD is plenty detailed for me, so FHD it is

      also, I can run a 15.6" FHD screen at 100% (zero scaling) in Windows which renders a lot of scaling related issues irrelevant. priceless

      so I wouldn't buy a 15.6" QHD laptop even if it was an awesome deal. which is why I scratched some of the Lenovo Legion options off the list straight away as they come preconfigured with QHD

    Fantastic price and specs! Beats a lot of desktop deals around.
    This (assuming cooling works well) is equivalent to an R5 5600X and RTX 3060 Ti desktop.
    Except PORTABLE

    I bought a 10gen with 3070 in June for $1700.
    Meaning I "saved $200 and an 8 month wait" compared to someone who buys this and gets a 15w GPU uplift, 11gen, and an optical keyboard.
    About equivalent value, I guess?
