Best Fuel Rewards Program

What is the best fuel rewards program out there?

I’m in an interesting position whereby the new company I’m in doesn’t supply a fuel card for my tool of trade vehicle. Instead I use my own credit card and claim it back.

Hence I can shop for fuel anywhere and utilise any credit card/rewards program.

Any suggestions?

BP rewards (QFF) and 7-11 (Velocity) both offer 1 point per $ on regular fuels and 2 points per $ on premium fuels. BP is more expensive around my area so you could accrue more points since you're getting reimbursed anyway.

Coles + Flybuys would be the most practical if you do your shopping at coles as well. The regular earn rate is lower 1 point per $2, but you can exchange your $30 spend shopping docket for 8 points per litre. You could do a combination of 7-11 and Coles and you can consolidate everything into Velocity points down the track.

  • Can you Salary Sacrifice?

    • I’m still in probation, but my request to sacrifice 5% into my superannuation didn’t meet any resistance

      • I don't see why it would…

CDC has 1% to 8% cashback. Pay with a CDC, collect the cashback and get reimbursed by the boss.

A good starting point is OzBargain's dedicated fuel discounts page.

I know that page focuses on fuel discounts, but it still touches upon loyalty programs at various fuel stations across Australia.

  • Get an Amex Platinum Edge to earn 3pts/$1 at petrol stations (bonus if it's at BP or 7/11 with their 2pt/L for premium or 1pt/L for regular to QFF/BP respectively), then convert these to VFF at 2MR:1VFF.

The effective rate depends on the price of fuel, but at the moment it works out to be like 4VFF points/L (3pt/$ + 1pt/L) or 3VFF+1QFF/L
