About this page

The purpose of this page is to catalogue the various fuel discounts, gift cards and loyalty programs redeemable at a range of service stations across Australia.

This page will not cover fuel charge cards issued by various service stations (e.g. BP Plus, AmpolCard, Shell Card), as fuel charge cards usually require an ABN to register.

This page also covers frequency asked questions (FAQs) related to service stations.

Service Stations

7-Eleven

7-Eleven is a network of over 600 service stations selling Mobil fuel across Australia.

Loyalty Program

7-Eleven is a partner of Velocity Frequent Flyer, the loyalty program of Virgin Australia. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn points on the following purchases at 7-Eleven:

  • 2 Velocity Points per litre of U95 and U98
  • 1 Velocity Point per litre of E10, U91 and diesel
  • 2 Velocity Points per $1 spent in-store on eligible products - more information on eligible products can be found on the 7-Eleven website.

The My 7-Eleven app also offers loyalty rewards to users that can be redeemed on the 7th visit to 7-Eleven.

Fuel Discount Offers

Fuel Price Lock

7-Eleven offers a Fuel Price Lock system through the My 7-Eleven app, where you can lock in the lowest pump price for a specific grade of fuel at a nearby 7-Eleven service station. The next time you purchase fuel at a 7-Eleven service station and use the My 7-Eleven app:

  • If the pump price is up to (or exactly) 25c/L more expensive than the Fuel Price Lock, the fuel will be charged at the price in the Fuel Price Lock.
  • If the pump price is more than 25c/L more expensive than the Fuel Price Lock, the Fuel Price Lock system will only apply a 25c/L discount to the pump price. For example, if the pump price is 220.9c/L and the Fuel Price Lock for the same grade of fuel is 184.9c/L, the Fuel Price Lock will only lower the pump price to 195.9c/L.
  • If the pump price is lower than the Fuel Price Lock, the fuel will be charged at the pump price.

A Fuel Price Lock can only be redeemed once within the seven days, and cannot be manually removed from your 7-Eleven account.

There are ways of falsifying your device’s location data (known on OzBargain as “using a chopper”) to make the My 7-Eleven app think you are near the location of a particular service station, which is particularly useful when a 7-Eleven service station is selling fuel at a substantially lower price than the 7-Eleven service stations physically near you. “Using a chopper” is discussed in more detail in an OzBargain forum post, but it is against the My 7-Eleven app terms and conditions. 7-Eleven can (and does) suspend or terminate My 7-Eleven accounts suspected of violating the terms and conditions, and also reserves the right to void any Fuel Price Locks where 7-Eleven believes it was provided in error.

Gift Cards

7-Eleven sells physical 7-Eleven gift cards that can be redeemed for fuel purchases across all stations in Australia.

7-Eleven-branded Activ Visa gift cards are also available through a number of gift card portals, including ShopBack, Giftz.com.au and HCF Thank You.

Ampol

Ampol is a large network of over 1800 service stations across Australia that are either operated by Ampol (where Ampol themselves set the prices of fuel) or its franchisees.

Ampol was previously branded as Caltex, but ceased using the Caltex trademark in December 2022. Any service stations in Australia that are currently using the Caltex trademark are not associated with Ampol at all.

This section is divided into three sub-sections:

NOTE: this section on Ampol excludes U-GO service stations. Although U-GO is owned and operated by Ampol, it is not part of the Ampol network.

Ampol Foodary

Ampol Foodary service stations are typically operated by Ampol, where Ampol sets the prices of fuel sold at these service stations.

Approximately 50 Ampol Foodary service stations were previously branded as Ampol Woolworths Metro or Ampol Woolworths MetroGo, but this branding was phased out in late 2023.

For the purposes of this section:

Loyalty Program

Everyday Rewards is accepted at nearly 600 Ampol Foodary service stations across mainland Australia, where you will earn 1x Everyday Rewards point per dollar spent on fuel (capped at 150 points) and most in-store purchases.

There are no Ampol Foodary service stations in TAS that will award Everyday Rewards points on any purchases, as these (as well as TAS EG Ampol service stations) are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards program. However, Everyday Rewards members can still redeem the Woolworths fuel discount at participating TAS Ampol Foodary service stations by presenting their Everyday Rewards card at the time of payment. A fuel voucher does not need to be stored on an Everyday Rewards card in order to earn this discount.

Fuel Discount Offers

Two types of fuel discount offers are available across participating Ampol Foodary service stations:

  1. Woolworths fuel discount
  2. Ampol / partner discount

Ampol Foodary service stations officially permit only one fuel discount offer of any sort to be redeemed in one transaction. An attendant and/or the POS system will usually block attempts to redeem more than one. For example:

  • A Woolworths fuel discount may not be stacked with a myToyota fuel discount offer.
  • An Ampol Energy fuel discount offer may not be stacked with a My NRMA fuel discount offer.

  • The additional 2c/L discount at participating TAS Ampol Foodary service stations may be terminated at any time without notice.
  • The Woolworths fuel discount offer cannot be stacked with an Ampol / partner discount. Any attempt to redeem the two discounts in the same transaction will see the first discount presented automatically voided by the checkout system.
  • Only one Ampol / partner discount (e.g. My NRMA, myToyota) can be used in one transaction. Any attempt to use a second Ampol / partner discount will see the first partner discount automatically voided by the checkout system.

EG Ampol

EG Ampol (sometimes referred to as EG Australia or EG Fuelco) is a network of over 500 service stations operated by EG Group within the Ampol network. Nearly all of these service stations were previously operated by Woolworths Group under the Woolworths Petrol brand.

EG Ampol service stations previously used the Caltex trademark in conjunction with the Woolworths trademark, but the use of the Caltex trademark was completely phased out in December 2022.

For the purposes of this section:

  • Any service stations that appear on the EG store locator are in scope.
  • Any service stations that appear on the Ampol store locator as anything other than an EG Ampol are out of scope.

Loyalty Program

All EG Ampol service stations on mainland Australia accept Everyday Rewards, where you will earn 1x Everyday Rewards point per dollar spent on fuel and most in-store purchases. You can also redeem a Woolworths fuel voucher stored on an Everyday Rewards account at these service stations.

All EG Ampol service stations across TAS are not participating in any loyalty program. However, you can redeem a Woolworths fuel voucher stored on an Everyday Rewards account at these service stations.

Fuel Discount Offers

EG Ampol offers three types of discount offers:

  1. Woolworths fuel discount
  2. Instore spend offer
  3. EG / partner discount

All three types of discount offers can be redeemed in the same transaction when paying for fuel instore (excluding LPG), but only one of each type of discount offer can be redeemed in the same transaction. For example:

  • One Woolworths fuel discount can be used in conjunction with one EG / partner discount in the same transaction (i.e. “stacked”).
  • Two EG / partner discounts cannot be used in the same transaction.

However, if fuel is being paid for through the Pay At Pump feature on the EG Club app, the only two discounts that can be redeemed through Pay At Pump are:

  • A Woolworths fuel voucher stored on an Everyday Rewards account linked to the EG Club app
  • EG Club member discount

Loyalty Program

Participating BP service stations across Australia accept BP Rewards. Members can opt to receive their rewards in the form of BP Rewards points or Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

BP Rewards members earn:

  • 2 points per litre of BP Ultimate Unleaded
  • 1 point per litre of other fuel types
  • 1 point per $1 spent on eligible in-store products

BP Rewards allows a member to redeem BP Rewards points for:

  • Discounts on fuel and eligible in-store products (1 BP Rewards point = 1c discount, and the minimum points required to redeem a discount is 500) when paying in-person or via the BPme app, or
  • Gift cards at participating retailers (i.e. David Jones)
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

What is the link between Chevron, Ampol, Caltex and EG?

Chevron

Chevron is large multinational energy company that owns a network of service stations across Australia, including service stations currently branded as Puma Energy.

Chevron also owns the Caltex trademark, which is currently used on some of Chevron's own service stations and is licensed to other companies (e.g. OTR).

Ampol

Ampol is an energy company that operates a large number of service stations across Australia. It also supplies fuel and licences its branding to a number of licensees across Australia (including EG and Bennett's Petroleum).

The company currently called Ampol was formed in 1995 when Ampol merged with Caltex to form Australian Petroleum, which was renamed to Caltex Australia in 1997. Chevron owned a 50% stake in Caltex Australia until its divestment in 2015, but permitted Caltex Australia to continue using the Caltex trademark under licence. However, it notified Caltex Australia in 2019 that it would terminate the licencing agreement and require Caltex Australia to cease using the Caltex trademark by the end of 2022.

Caltex

Caltex is a trademark owned by Chevron.

Chevron - which purchased the Australian Puma Energy service station network in 2019 - is in the process of rebranding the Puma Energy network of service stations over to the Caltex trademark. Chevron also licenses the Caltex trademark to other companies, including OTR.

EG Group owns and operates nearly 540 service stations across Australia, with nearly all of these service stations formerly operated by Woolworths Group before they novated their lease to EG in 2019.

EG sells fuel supplied by Ampol, and operates these service stations under the EG Ampol brand. EG previously used Caltex branding on its network, but this ceased in December 2022.

How do I know if a service station with Ampol branding is operated by EG?

There are a number of clues to look out for:

  • EG service stations appear on the Ampol store locator as EG Ampol, and also appear on the EG store locator.
  • EG service stations will either have EG branding or Woolworths branding on the convenience store front. EG stations will not have Foodary branding on the convenience store front.
  • The price board (aka pylon) at EG service stations will have EG branding on it and will be either of these designs.
