    • Just out of curiosity, do you not have oven or bench top hotplates or is there another reason for buying one?

In other counties ovens usually don't come with houses or apartments when buying or renting but I haven't seen a place without them here unless it's just like an old hotel room or something for rent.

We bought one for our caravan. But it migrated to our kitchen because it is better then the ceramic electric hot plate we have there. I also can’t justify $1000 to replace the ceramic because it’s not broken.

        • You can get an induction hotplate for a lot less from Aldi, Kogan or ebay sellers. I have an Aldi one and it's been better than the 2 teka ones that I had in my other place, and they were 1500 on sale, the aldy was 239 on clearance.

          • @Jackson: I’m sure I can. But my ceramic still works and I have the portable induction.

            • @LuckyDrew: Yes but you quoted $1000, it's not really that much. Ceramics are a huge waste of time, energy, and are less safe. I use one from time to time at a relatives house, or some holiday home occasionally, and they never cease to amaze me how bad they are. By contrast induction is IMO the best appliance to cook on in modern kitchens, better than gas by a stretch

              • @Jackson: Ok let’s play semantics. It is likely I’ll need to get the circuit the cooktop is on upgraded to allow an induction cooker. Maybe also I’ll need to get the cut out in my stone bench top changes? That all adds to the price.

And maybe I’d prefer a decent brand name for an appliance I’m having installed in my kitchen? Aldi selling a cheap cooker doesn’t mean my $1000 figure is wrong.

My current set up has cost me $0 extra.

I've been wanting to get an induction because we have a very old electric hotplate system and it takes at least 10 minutes to get water to a rolling boil when I've already pre-boiled it in the kettle.

Electric also takes ages to cool down and a while to heat up the hotplates so an induction would let me boil liquid for a minute and then simmer (as some recipes want you to do)

I also hear they make the kitchen a lot less hot but that's mainly relevant for commercial kitchens. Lack of fire can be good tol

      • stove had normal solid metal electric hot plate where rented so bought an induction hot plate as it heated and cooled down quicker …..now i also outdoors when the weather is good ……

how quick to boil a litre of water?

      • -2

Roughly the same amount of time as any other 2000W device.

      Quite good.

We use it for "Korean BBQ" on our dining table.

Alternatively the IKEA one for the same price gets great reviews:

    2nd best in Choice review - 86%.

    • What got 1st place?

        Westinghouse

        • Noice, probably not worth double the cost.

My gas stove has been very fiddly and I need something alongside my electric pressure cooker, so I think I'll pick up the Ikea one today - cheers!

          • @Doy: I've also got the IKEA one, and not sure if this is just a problem with ours, but it's also quite fiddly. There's a child lock safety function, and when you plug it in, it's locked by default. The problem is that the unlock mechanism is really fiddly, and it sometimes takes us 10-15 attempts to unlock it just to be able to turn on the stove.

    • haven’t seen ikea one but experience you want one that also allows you to set temperature rather than just power ….. i used to set mine for 120c to get a bubbling boil for pasta and 100c for a simmer ….. they have 20c increments, mine was from spotlight but they no longer stock.

I guess in summary, why would I buy your random eBay hot plate when I can get an IKEA one for the same price or a K-Mart one for cheaper? I know which shops will be easier to sort out any warranty issues at.

    • my local kmart had no stock last time i checked …. so who has stock and how close they are might be an influencer.

This doesn't appear to be a bargain. More like normal price & using Ozbargain for free advertising.

Similar options available elsewhere for less as mentioned above.

    • +1

      No bargain at all

  • Ooh. 7 cooking modes!!!

    • that's intelligence modes for those without.

    • yeah …means boil, simmer, fry, etc …..check if it also allows temp selection or just modes and power levels .

  • +2
  • one of the differences i have found between brands is some make a high pitch noise rather than just the noise of the fan ……. xiaomi make a “junior” model that just has power levels, no temp, no modes, to save costs, but also no high pitch noise …..but mine was $80 when i got it ……
