The free trial version of Cyberpunk 2077 gives you the chance to check out Night City, updated for next-generation consoles, for yourself before purchasing the full game.

Available to download on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, the trial includes all the updates introduced in Patch 1.5, including next-gen-specific features.

If you want to see how the game runs, what’s been added, and just get a feel for things without committing to a purchase, then this trial is for you.

  1. PLAY FOR 5 HOURS

Once you download and install the free trial, you’ll be able to start a new game of Cyberpunk 2077. For the full 5 hour duration of the trial, you’ll have total freedom to play the game from the beginning.

  1. LOVE IT OR BURN IT

Once you hit 5 hours of playtime, the free trial will end and you can choose to purchase the full game, or carry on with your life as before! If you do buy the full game, your save progress from the trial will carry over from the trial version, so you can pick up your adventure in Night City right where you left off.

    • You mean back in the 90s and very early 2000s?

Been a while my boy - PcGamer demo discs were glorious though

  • I enjoyed playing the game and I keep looking out for the next release of DLC, which has been frustrating. I played on a brand new PC with solid graphics but I've heard that console versions were a really poor imitation, with downgraded performance and more glitches. I think the moral of the story is that you can only expect so much from a console, particularly an old one. There were one or two glitches I came across in terms of access to higher level cyber hacks but I either learned to put up with it or found a workaround. It is still better than Fallout in terms of game play and newer concepts. Fallout is not perfect either, as it has some glitches too. There were also some farming exploits and other things in Cyberpunk that made things quite easy if you go down that route and actively look for them on forums, YouTube etc. I don't know if CDP has looked at patching some things since. I would say though that I have seen the price of the game fall to a level at which reasons to complain for PC users should be limited if you lower your expectations. I think everyone can think of ways this game could be better, but it is still fun.

Upvoting as I think 5 hours of gameplay is generous despite the history its had.

  • It is so bad, the next gen upgrade is something to look forward to lol

It might be good in ten years time

    • the game has finally come out of alpha

  • +2

At this rate it will get GOTY in 2077.

Am I correct in assuming this is the first 5 hours of the game based on the comments?

I've already done the first 5 hours (and a bit more) but just want the trial to play from where I'm up to in the game.

    • I haven't tried it, but I think its just 5 hours of access, so it shouldn't matter where you are up to

Not sure what you're asking? You have 5hrs worth of play. Do what you can in that time.

Your second point is confusing. You've played 5hrs+ and you want to play the trial from where you're up to?? If you've already played it, why do you need the trial??

My guess is you sold the game and want to continue using your 5hrs?

I'm not certain that the 5 hours of trial is from the beginning of the game or anywhere in the game.

Yes, I would like to play the trial from where I'm up to. I'd like to play the trial so I can see if the game is now worth getting because it has had a next-gen upgrade.

My guess is you sold the game and want to continue using your 5hrs?

        Correctamundo

  • Excuse the NOOB question.

I have bought the original Xbox version and have it installed on the ONE X . Looked at it and pretty much forgot about it (only because I already finished it on PC).

Will my install update automatically to the next gen version?

    • +1

It should definitely update, however automatically can be hit and miss for a game that you haven’t fired up for awhile so next time you goto play it may ask to update

    • +2

Nope. The One X is old gen. This update is for the Series S/X.

      • +1

        Talk about being a NOOB.
While I had the One X for a long time and now have the series X LOL - so I got confused with/by my X's '-)

        • +3

Their naming conventions suck, that is the real issue.

    • Its a free update for both Series S and Series X (I have both).

I've got 5 hours to kill, i'll give CyberBunk a try!

  • never played it at launch but decent game though def not worth the hype

  • anyone having issues installing the trial on Xbox Series X? cant find it in the store on the Xbox. Following the link above, clicked install trial, and then it queued. Went to Xbox and i can see something in the queue trying to install but then it stops and just keeps repeating same thing?

  • I got this game on PC at launch, I enjoyed the game entirely, throughout my 60 ish hr playthrough I think I only encountered one bug which forced me to relaunch the game but otherwise runs fine. I just don't think the game is worth the initial price at $90 as there's very minimum replayability.

Bought it at launch and played it on a PS5 without any game breaking bugs or issues other than the random crash after playing for an hour or two. Finished the game in two endings in a week and returned for a refund.

It's a pretty decent game. Nothing ground breaking and wasn't all it was made up to be before it released. The main storyline was good but honestly I enjoyed The Witcher 3 much much more

  • +1

Its a great game. I pirated it at first due to the hate then bought it after finishing it because it was really good.

None of the hate was warranted on PC.

  • I thought it is worth it and enjoyable for the $25 AUD I paid for the PC version ….

    • Where’d you get it for $25? If you don’t mind me asking

  • I played this at launch on PC, honesty an amazing game, the best graphics I have ever seen anywhere (good enough to be a photographer inside the game), amazing story (High level of immersion and gripping plot development). If you are a fan of Cyberpunk, this is a must-buy.

  • I think we have to keep in mind that the deal is a FREE 5-hour trial of the game.
All the comments regarding the full price game at launch (over a year ago) are somewhat irrelevant.

I'm currently on my 3rd playthrough of the full game (XBox Series S&X), first playthrough of the next-gen update (Patch 1.5).
I found the city to be quite immersive and I enjoyed the story.
Some of the side missions can get a bit repetitive (NCPD missions for example) but many of the others are quite good and flesh out a few of the NPC stories.
Having played through it more than once with different builds you can tackle many of the missions in very different manners, sometimes resulting in different outcomes.
It's good. Not great but good.
