I found the sauce tasted different over last decade. Unsure which taste you want them to revert back to?

I found the Big Mac sauce been quite consistent in the same period. Thought?

    • well i havent had macca's in a few months, but lets say 6 month's ago

      • +9

Have you just been carrying around a hatred of their new sauce for months?

I ate maccas about a month ago with sweet and sour sauce on my nuggets and I haven't the faintest clue what it tasted like, I'm sure it was fine.

        • -3

I don't who the people are who changed the Sweet & Sour Sauce. I don't know what they want to achieve. If they are looking to ruin my Nuggets, i can tell you, i don't have time for their shenanigans. What i do have, are a very particular set if skills. Skills i have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like them. If they change back the recipe for the sauce now, that will be the end of it. I will not look for them. I will not pursue them. But if they don't. I will look for them. I will find them. And i will kill them!

best sauce is the Spicy one from HJ

    • +13

KFC supercharged is pretty good too

    • +2

Oporto prego sauce, now that's a winner

      • Does prego sauce taste salty?

  • +10

Never enjoyed any of the 'sweet' sauces from HJ or Maccas or KFC. The sweetness always overpowers everything else imo.

  • +1

The sauces started coming from China maybe 5-10 years ago and didn't taste quite as nice as they did previously.

In the last year or so the "made in China" has been removed from the label and they taste worse yet again.

Aside from the taste, the consistency is different and slightly more gel like.

      What does it say now?

The Maccas Sweet sauce was too sweet for me, destroying the taste of everything it went on.

If the new version isn't as sickly I'll give it a try.

    • +3

i find it sweeter, and it is missing that apricot tang to it, i only tasted it briefly, my nephews and nieces were all having chips and dinosaur nuggets for a birthday dinner, and we went and got them the Macca's sauces, and one of my nephews is a picky eater and he said he wouldn't eat it because it tasted funny, i said we got them from mcdonalds, its the real sauce, then i tasted it and thought, geez, that kid is right

      • +9

        Interesting tale, well told.

Pad it out to 23 minutes and we'll get some funding to shoot a pilot episode? 2nd ad break between "tasted it and thought.." [tension builds] and "geez, that kid is right" [final arc, credits].

Hamish and/or Andy to play the kid.

        • +3

Yes, i love it, but i think in this day and age it might be more appropriate to have an American 23 year old black female actress playing the role om my 8 year old nephew.

@Qazxswec: "see any triceratops shaped nuggies, unc? no ya don't, it's all t-rex and brontosaurus over here. remind me whose birthday it is"

            "but-"

"and i got these chips, but where is the dip …. or am i looking at him?"

damn Qazxswec, your nephew got sass

          • @Qazxswec: Female? As in cisgender? Shame on you bigot!

      • Did you walk in on them having dinner then thought you'd go get sauces from maccas? I didn't realize their sauces are free?

At no point in my life have I ever thought to pop down to maccas to pick up some sauce for a non maccas meal I was having.

        • +1

nah it was one of their birthdays, and i asked them what they wanted to eat, they said Dinosaur Nuggets but with McDonalds sweet and sour sauce, i said they could just get Maccas nuggets but they said no, they want the Dino's, so i just bought the sauces, they are $0.50 each i think, i always used to buy like 20 at a time so if i had a quick nugg snack at home, i could have the sauce too

      • You didn't eat it with McNuggets, that's the problem. The flavour profile is bound to change when you pair it with a different ingredient.

        • Nah ive been buying the sauce for years and eating it at home, it has been changed, even the packaging is different

  • +1

I have been eating regularly for a long time and have not noticed any major changes.

  • +4

Maccas sweet and sour sauce was always terrible. Hungry Jacks and Red Rooter have much better sweet and sour sauces. The best Maccas sauce was curry sauce which they got rid of years ago.

    • I don't think i ever tried the curry sauce, apparently the cajun sauce was good too, but i didnt get to try that one either

    • +10

      Red Rooter

      ( ͡ಠ ͜ʖ ͡ಠ)

    O.P., have you had Covid?

Funnily enough, eating the sauce with my McNuggets right now. Tastes the same to me. Best before 18 May 2022

    • does the packaging look different, the newer tasting sauce is in slightly different packaging.
Does it look like this: https://www.change.org/p/mcdonald-s-change-the-mcdonalds-swe… , if so that is the old sauce, the newer one in mainly just the green colou,r with sweet n sour written on it, and a red and yellow square macca's logo

      • The latter aka new sauce. Can't really taste the difference but also having Coke with my meal. I'll try suss it out next time.

      • +2

The irony of having a change.org campaign to revert changes hehe

        • +2

I see no changes, all i see is sauce that's tasteless
Misplaced taste, it's disgraced the races
Down Under, i wonder what it takes to make this
The better taste, cause these Nugs are wasted

Give the meals to the people, they'll be acting right
"Cause Mo" black and white is wasting Nugs tonight
The only time I chiiilllll is when the Nugs are smothered
Need sauce with the meal, cause some Nugs are rubber

          Some things will never change

          • @Qazxswec: Probably the most underappreciated comment in this post… nice work

            • @gormsby: thankyou, i added a zero to my name for my McDonald's raps, so you can call me 20Pac, i'm still alive baby, straight from the Sauce

      • I had the new one last night as well and didn't notice any difference.

I have some more there so will try again tonight, but if there is any difference it must be very minor.

Edit: According to that Change.org they changed it at least 4 months back? I can remember that old packaging, but I think it tastes very similar.

        • yeah i havent had maccas sweet n sour in a while before last night, then i found that change.org site and people have been talking about it for a while, yesterday was the first time tried it the new packaging though, and to be honest it didnt really register until my 8 year old nephew brought it up, but then i gave it a real good try and yeah, its definitely different

          • @Qazxswec: Had it again last night and can confirm the taste is almost identical to what it used to be. If there is any change it is so slight that I can't notice it.

  • In the 1990s they were in squat, round containers with white foil lids. The sweet and sour was quite runny, and like the red sauce you dip your deep fried spring roll in where you go to the Chinese Restaurant attached to a country town bowling club.
I couldn’t find a picture, another memory victim of the time before camera phones.

    • +6

Maybe someone can fax it to your from the 90s

    • I remember that, it tasted like corn syrup with red dye. Nothing interesting about it at all

  • +4

Sad that Maccas dont have the curry sauce that is available in certain SEA countries. That is da bomb.

    • McD had a curry sauce back in the 90s - used to buy it all the time. Not sure if it's the one you're referring to but I stopped buying nuggets when the curry sauce disappeared.

  • But is the cheese under the sauce?

    • how do you get the Beans on top of the Frank?

  • +3

Poll needs "Who cares, it's McDonalds."

  • -3

It's because they've started making the sauce in China (along with ketchup as well) since the last decade or so.

Pre-COVID, I went to USA and tried their McNuggets with the sauce, which was still made in USA. It's so much better in comparison lol

    • +1

Sauces are still made at PFD in Australia.

  • Maybe you should move onto honey mustard, sweet and sour is so 1995.

  • They don't have Honey Mustard Sauce do they? i know they have mustard sauce which i like, i went through a mustard phase a few years ago, but i've never had honey mustard from mcdonalds, not a fan of honey mustard in general though, but if they have it i will try it next time, the Sweet and Sour is iconic though in my books, by far the best sauce

    • They do. Although I feel like it was removed from the menu a while ago then made a comeback. Sweet and sour is pretty iconic, not sure if it’s my fave. Big Mac sauce and tartare mentioned below are pretty damn good too.

I haven’t noticed a difference in sweet and sour except that it seems a lot more funnier these days, but that’s comparing it to like a decade ago. Oh and Maccas is supposedly releasing a new sauce with the 40 nugget pack, some spicy bbq sauce or something.

  • +1

Forget the usual sauces ask for Big Mac sauce or Fillet O'fish tartare sauce

    • Does that cost extra?

    • Just ask for the McRib sauce and burn the place down to the ground if they say they don't have any.

    • I love Big Mac sauce in burgers but on nuggets they taste a bit … thin.
Need something with a bit more kick like sweet and sour.

      But to each his own!

  • Yeah i don't think i've tried their Tartare, i will give it a go

  • I've noticed some slight changes over the years, but I think the new sauce tastes just as good as the old one.

  • +2

    Recipe hasn’t changed at all.
Same now as it was last year and the year before that.

    • incorrect

      • +3

Given the sauce is provided and manufactured by PFD and as I am someone who lives with a person who works at PFD I stand my statement.
The sauce has not changed. It’s a you thing.

  • I'm sure it's still better than the Sweet and Sour sauce in US McDonald's — for some reason it tastes nothing like the Oz McDonald's sweet and sour sauce. Maybe it's the corn syrup?

  • -2

This is your opportunity- stop buying the junk.
In fact think about it. Are you willing to keep paying, and maybe adjust your taste to ‘get used to’ something you find to be disgusting? If so, are you Maccas-dependant? With so many really amazing things to feed yourself with in this lucky country, can they just serve anything up to you and you’ll pay them to eat it?
    It’s a bit sad my friend…..

    • +3

      Username checks out

  • You should add in the poll….

"Bring back the 'sweet chilli' sauce"

    • Coles brand sweet chilli sauce is the as the old maccas sweet chilli.

  • Garlic aioli is the best Maccas nuggets sauce.

    • Nar the pure saffron sauce is

  • Forget sweet and sour, all we want is Szechuan teriyaki mcnugget sauce!

  • Another excuse to not eat maccas. Last time I had maccas was about 3 months ago and noticed how the fillet o fish is now smaller than a bees d*ck.

    What a joke.

    • +5

I think the joke here is someone buying that burger.

      • Everyone in the kitchen was laughing when the order came through

  • +1

KFC nuggets are way better, and their sweet n sour sauce is the best!

    • +3

No way there nuggets are better, they do taste nice, but they are always soggy, i admit, Maccas nuggets are very inconsistent, but when they are fresh, they are unbeatable, but i do agree that KFC's sweet and sour sauce is very good, i would say i like it as much as the McDonald's one, maybe more, but just in a different way, also their sweet chilli goes alright with the tenders as well

      • I've never had the unbeatable version of maccas nuggets. I do find the KFC nuggets a bit softer than others, but wouldn't say soggy. I think the seasoning on their nuggets is what makes them my favourite. They just taste better even if the texture isn't quite perfect

        • Yeah the seasoning is nice

  • +2

Now it's sour and sweet, this is outrageous…

  • The taste/recipe already changed a few years ago, it was when the packging for the sauce also changed if I remember correctly. Took me a while to get used to it.

  • +1

Bring back the CURRY or the CAJUN - they were the best ones by far !!

  • +1

I remember posts last year (or was it the year before) about people complaining about some food companies changing their recipes. Complaints about it being 'tasteless' when later it turned out they had Covid and lost their sense in taste.

    • Yeah i haven't got Covid, i just want the Sauce changed back, i think i might be allergic to the new recipe, ever since i ate it the other night, ive had headaches, i've been coughing and sneezing, and i'm finding it hard to take nice deep breaths

      • +2

Hate to break it to you but…

      • What other foods don't taste the same to you?

  • +1

I had Big Mac first time in a few months and realised the Special Sauce tasted different. Tasted very watered down/ light vinegary. No kick/flavor in it whatsoever. Anyone else

    • +1

Yep I suspect most stores water down the big Mac sauce heavily these days. I've noticed it more often than not lately, every now and then I'll get a big Mac with the rich creamy big Mac sauce I know and love which confirms my suspicions about the other stores

      • That is incorrect. They actually wouldn't be able to water it down even if they tried. The sauce comes in a tube that gets put in to a sauce gun. Similar in concept to like a caulking gun. There is no way to open up the actual sauce tube to 'water it down'.

What you are describing is probably the overall perception of having a fresh burger with fresh toasted bun, fresh meat, etc (more likely during a busy time of the day) vs an older burger with meat cooked an hour ago (more likely during a quiet time where not many people are ordering and the ingredients are just sitting there)

        • Shows what you know mate. It's been years since I've seen a McDonald's with pre-made burgers sitting around getting cold, waiting for someone to come along and order them.
