Help Identify This Dog Breed

Hi guys,
Seeking your opinion with this dachshund that we're thinking of adopting. Current owner claimed that dog is a cross between normal dachshund and mini dachshund. I'm unsure as 2 of the photos showing long / tall rear legs. Appreciate your advise.
Thanks.

…he looks like a dachshund lol

Was getting that breed of dog important to you?
      - because if not, why not just get him if you like him?

    Totally cute badger doggo

It's exactly what the owner described it as

Mini's are around 30-40cm standards are up to 60cm
It's just a genetic variation as it's not a pedigree, but a cross between 2 different pedigrees
They can be anywhere from stubby to moderate long legs. When crossed between standard and mini this is pretty normal.

If it were a whippet or something it would have far more different features. And the facial structure is 100% daschund.

Source: (I've had 2 minis) - those legs look the same as my current one, the only difference is my previous one had shorter stubbier legs and struggled to get up on couches, the new one is like a rabbit and can jump up on everything up to 0.5m high (still pedigree though)
Also in this environment for dachys going upwards of $3k+ i'd be jumping on adopting this asap as it likely won't come up again.

Good Pupper. May you grow to be a magnificent Doggo.

Long term dachshund owner here. Got my first one over 50 years ago. Love them to bits.

Basically, the only difference between a standard and a mini is size. Some people use the term "tweenie" fop dachshunds that fall between standard and mini sizes. My current dachshund was registered as a miniature at birth as both parents were miniature, but he is standard in size (although at the lower end of the size for standard)

Your pictures show a lovely looking dog. Do be aware that dachshunds like to be a part of the family, and most are not suitable to being along for extended periods (i.e. if everyone is at work/school all day).

  • Looks more like a sausage dog than a dachshund

      not sure if trolling.
      But good

  • Take it to vet and get a professional opinion.

  • I don't like that back. Very arched. I'd get him checked over prior to purchase.

I've had 2 well bred, robust, standards and I don't recall the back being like that.

He's a little cutie! I don't think the rear legs look that tall, except in the oceanside photo and there I think it's more a trick of the perspective. Anyway you're getting him as a pet, not a show dog, so would it really matter?

  • Younger Standard (sized) Dachshund.
It's coat is known as a 'Smooth'.
    Colour 'Black and Tan'.

They have lots of different variations.
Size: Standard, Mini and a sort of 'in between' which is not an official size.
Colours: Black and tan, tan, chocolate, dapple…
Coats: Smooth, Long Haired, Short Haired, Wired….

Great family doggos… Playful… Pretty easy going and dont expect much… However, like all breeds they have a floor, in this case, sadly their backs. So make sure its from a rep breeder and has been checked over by a Vet if not a pup… Hope this helps!

  • why would you not believe the current owners story?
looks like it very well could be a cross between those 2, would it make a difference to you if its parents were both mini or standard sized dachshunds?
I would assume this dog is at its full grown size now.
