Recommendations on Electronics Repairer in Sydney?

I wonder if anyone has any recommendations on an electronics repairer that can do quality repair for a digital camera and laser disc player, preferably not far from inner west Sydney?

This doesn’t answer your question but unless the items are of sentimental values you may be better off replacing them with newer stuff.

  • Spare parts alone will be the killer let alone labour on top

  • What type of camera repair? I've had good service (and reasonable price) from Camera Service Centre in Sydney.

I think you might find camera and laser disc repair might not be able to be done at the same place though.

  • Component level repair isn't very common any more. Labour alone is likely to make the repairs uneconomic. If the items are more than a few years old, spare parts may not be available, even for the big brands.

How old are your items, and what are the brands? Have you called the manufacturer or distributor and asked them where the items can be repaired?

  • Is the laser disc the one that plays the 12" or just a regular CD/DVD/Blue Ray type laser disc player?

If it's the 12" then I would google "electronic repair sydney inner west" and check the reviews and then go and have a look in the front window of the shop to see what they repair.

  • With the camera, I had a Cannon A650 IS I like to repair if economically feasible. The motorised lens don't come out anymore. Reason is that's the best camera running on AA batteries.

As for the laser disc player, it is denon brand. I still got a bunch of karaoke discs about 12" diameter I like to play, but eject mechanism appears to be faulty.

    • In that case with the laser disc you should try some youtube video on fixing a bad eject mechanism as it's probably a belt that has stretched, but the problem is trying to get a replacement one. I would checkout gumtree and ebay for a used laserdisc as it may be cheaper to buy another one than get fixed, but I could be wrong.

I took a long-lived Denon to this mob in Lane Cove http://e2day.com.au/index.html and they fixed an internal corrosion problem for $205.

You pay $88 upfront for them to take a look (just gone up from $55), which comes off the final fee when you return to collect.

It's an old style set-up with experienced guys who really know their stuff. They'll tell you if it's not worth going ahead.

    • i think these prices are reasonable

if you have a large integrated or poweramp then they could well be over $1k $2k if its specialist piece

even 10-15yrs ago you would be paying $200-$300 out the door to fix a piece given it wasnt an IC type fail

    • Thanks mate. I'll give those guy a go.
