Out of The Following Smart Light Bulbs Which Would Last The Longest Given Same Brightness and on/off Times

https://www.bunnings.com.au/products/smart-home/smart-lighti…

Looking to replace a normal bulb with a smart light bulb.

Trying to find the one that will last the longest given same brightness and lumen settings.

Basically which one will I need to replace the least over a 20 year life span.

Wondering if any one actually knows the answer to this question.

Otherwise I will just pick one out of a hat and call it a year.

  • I dunno about the other brands, but I get the impression LIFX is over-engineered for what it is. Though Philips as a corporation is more likely to exist in 20 years time.

Tend to agree that LIFX bulbs seem over-engineered.
You'd like to think that Phillips HUE would also last given the massive price Premium you pay. I've never handled one.
My Yeelight Bulbs (not from Bunnings) seem close to, but a step below, the feel of the LIFX bulb I own.

The rest of Bunnings range are all rebranded Chinese OEM bulbs. They might be good, maybe not, you'll only know in 5+ years time and just cause they were good 5 years ago would be irrelevant in 5 years time when they've changed manufacturer 3 times, and/or the manufacturer has changed component supplier 10 times…

    • LIFX are great though, I've never had a bulb die or have connectivity issues.
The LED strip (LIFX Z) though is crap and always drops out requiring a power cycle.

    • So why is LIFX over-engineered?

      • They just feel really solid/weighty.

    20 years?

Within 20 years home illumination will switch to some new technology that probably hasn't been invented yet.

Within 20 year wifi will change radically.

Within 20 years smart will be completely redefined.

Within 20 years you will have moved. Probably a couple of times.

    • tend to agree with this.
You should just get the one that has the feature set and colour that you want (and the aesthetic as some look a bit different). Most should last a long time as they are meant for thousands upon thousands of hours.

I've mentioned in a different post I think, but I chose Nanoleaf bulbs (and strip lights) as they are more in tune with Apple HomeKit (i.e. uses Thread protocol, works with HomeKit adaptive lighting) and price is good when on sale. No need for a hub either.

      • Yeah I've tried to stick with TP-Link Kasa products for similar reasons. Sure, Google Home app takes care of everything but when I need to I have one app to check on stuff, update firmware etc, not a handful of Chinese apps

    • I framed the question wrong I know but the gist was basically which bulb has the most hours.

Seems to be most LIFX bulbs do 25,000 hours.

No idea what other bulbs are saying but some are saying the same so I am wondering if 25,000 hours is the maximum at this point in time.

Also I caved in and just got a 2 pack of white lifx bulbs for $39.95 with free shipping from Amazon AU thanks to prime.

I just tried to put forward a question or request to know more about light bulbs that is all since I probably won't have the chance to ask this question or make a thread like this ever again in my lifetime lol so gotta shoot my shot while it counts.
