WTF do I do with large bottles of Chutney? I really hate wasting food. I mean I lie awake thinking about how to get through a whole shelf of chutney .I have a job some people would find extremely stressful. It is not as stressful as a whole shelf of chutney. I want my shelf back. I want my sleep back. I want my life back. Help me Ozbargain.

I have never used Chutney before. Chutney enthusiasts of Ozbargain I seek your esteemed advice.

It's great with tasty cheese (either on a cracker or in a sandwich), but frankly it's quite versatile with a lot of foods - if you normally like it, you'll love it in the chutney. It pairs especially well with spicy foods so depending on what you put in your chutney, it could be an eye-watering experience!

Eat it, give it away to friends, or donate it one of the places that accept food.

It'll keep for years if not opened and kept in a cool place, like the back of a cupboard, until you need it.

Try chutney on cold meat sandwiches, it's great.

leave jars out near letterbox saying free, they'll go quick as, esp if you have indians living in your area

    • Or better yet, a sign that says $5 each

    • Does anyone else have an aversion to foods cooked by others? Like a cake stall, or similar with jars of chutney etc?

I'm ok with professionally-run markets, and if people bring food to my house I'm ok.

  • We are in the same situation with jam, We have jars and more jars of bl***dy jam

  • depending on the type of chutney, it goes good on a nice scotch fillet steak sandwich, make them for the family

  • a) check the used by date. If it's past Xmas this year = win! Re-gift 101
    b) Give it to local charity for food stores. They'll give it out in a food hamper.

  • How many bottles of chutney do you have?

Cook a lamb roast. With the left overs a cold lamb and chutney sandwich is nice. Put lots of butter on it too.

I get food hampers and heaps of stuff I wont eat. I drop it off to the Salvos.

As a lot of people have already said, sandwiches with cold meat, chutney and "bitey" cheese are the best.

But in case you get sick of those (if that's possible!) some of these might hit the spot:

*Cooked sausages, split down the middle, chutney spooned on, top with cheese, grill until cheese is golden

*Bangers and mash with onion gravy (we just use the Gravox pouch) and a spoonful of chutney on top

*Mix chutney with cooked shredded beef or lamb, throw in some veg, top with mashed potato then grated cheese. Bake until cheese is golden

*Coat chicken pieces (thighs, drumsticks, etc) with chutney mixed with a bit of mayo. Bake at 190°C for 30 mins or until cooked inside. Nice with rice

I find that many chutneys have a promising alcoholic content. I'm partial to a little chutney boofing to get the weekend started. A quick wipe and all is gold.

Make a ploughman's lunch, use it on a cheeseboard instead of quince

Think of it as an ingredient not a chutney, can use in stews and all sorts of things once you stop catagorising
