  • why do you think the jackpot is 120m?

Lots and lots of surplus taxes.

      • lotto isnt tax money… and its also not taxed.

        • and its also not taxed.

          Yes it is…

The government takes a large chunk of each ticket you buy.

          • +1

            @jv: your winnings arent…

            • @lltravel:

              your winnings arent…

              Yes they are…

Everyone contributing to the jackpot has already paid all the tax…

Its a shame most people on here wouldn't know what to do with the money.

They all talk about "staying at work" which is a joke.

You wouldn't have to work a day in your life. Even if you blow 500k a year it would still be enough to last you a lifetime and leave generational wealth.

Stay at your job.. LOL please.. you might as well give your money to me, ill spend it better than you can.

    • +2

Yeah, I truly can't imagine staying at work. Not a chance I am spending any percentage of my youth, 8+ hours a day, for longer than I need to.
Are people's jobs so much more entertaining than mine? Are other people's hobbies less fun than their work? Do they not value spending time with family (who could also all retire with this much money lol) over working?

I am baffled, but hey, it's their life they can choose to spend it how they want. Personally I love work. But I love doing any of my hobbies far more than work. Now, maybe if you're literally a specialist who helps kids with cancer, sure, literal benefit to society that can't be easily replaced. Or your personal business which helps improve the sustainability of [product, service, etc], I get that.

      • Yeah I said stay at work for 12 months but only for the reason to keep a cool head, help me not do anything rash and try to keep the win under the radar.

    • They all talk about "staying at work" which is a joke.

      Why?

      • they hate their work.. they don't know how to make work fun yet

  • Bought the ticket after a couple of years being off lotto!

What do you guys buy? I am always inclined to organise a work syndicate and buy a few PowerHit Syndicate shares thru Ozlotto. Is there a better way considering both risk and reward?

  • +1

I always buy syndicate to get more entries. More than happy to have bigger chance of winning a few million.

    • Wouldnt be a bad idea to get a syndicate least for tonights and have a greater share. Obviously your syndicate being the only winner you can still walk away rather happy.

    1. Pay off mortgage for immediate family members.
    2. Buy a property for each siblings
    3. Buy a few more investment properties and holiday homes
    4. Buy a nice car - Tesla Model S maybe
    5. Find a hobby or a job that I enjoy - not for the money but just for something to do, maybe open a cafe and run that?
    6. Take more overseas holiday
    7. Give parents allowance, maybe 8-10k/month.
    8. Invest 80-90% of the remaining winnings.

Wouldn't want my lifestyle to be extremely extravagant, I think that'll put me in danger of chasing the next high which is how a lot of lotto winners ends up broke in a few years. Just want to live life on easy mode. Maybe go back to uni and get another degree that I have genuine interest in.

Yep, that would be the same for me. Spend a bit (I mean, like, 10-20mil "bit") to set up yourself and family in safe and comfortable housing and transport, then invest the rest and your immediate family can live off residuals. Also never taking any loans out, just living off your pre-set limits of weekly/monthly/yearly spendings.

I've read stories about people receiving lotto winnings as annual payments (not what would happen here) and be guaranteed SO much money every month or so. But then they started spending it all each month and got loans for the following months, etc, and then they end up with little money after the loan interests.

  • I don't usually buy lottery tickets but I definitely dream about what I'd do with a bucketful of money.

My brothers used to play a game called "Fan of Fortune" when I was little. We'd all save our money up for the Royal Easter Show and the night before they'd put the foldies on top of the ceiling fan and turn it on.. then try to catch as many of the notes as possible.

I like to think I'd like to play Fan of Fortune for myself :)

And then I'd like to work out how best to help my favourite charities as well as travel to the states to get treatment from a world leading dr on a disability I have :) I think anything more in life would be absolute gravy :D

I love all the dreams of what people would do with the dough .
That how these pricks rip every one off dreaming .
Anyway for me I'll buy all the food in the local fish and chip van near the beach and feed the seagulls .
If they behave themselves I will continue for a while .

  • You'd have to be crazy to think you'll win…

    I am crazy.

  • I spent 100 in last weeks 80mil and lost $89 .
Sorry I won $11 as they would say hehe :)
    Today I plan on buying $200 .

  • +4

Buy 2 lines which is the minimum amount. $2.80. Less than a cup of coffee and your odds of winning top prize aren’t significantly worse than the person spending $100.

Spending more than a few dollars is throwing your money away.

    • Aren't people allowed to save dough never entering the normal draws and have a decent crack at them after all the mugs have built up a large jackpot for you ?
Its above EV that probably doesns't mean anything to you .

      • EV is only >1 is there is only one winner. It’s heavily stacked to the first devision. If there are two div 1 winners then you EV is significantly reduced and it’s not a good return on investment.

        • On probability that is still the most likely case or for them they will open the champagne if 0 winners :)

          • @popsiee: Then using EV isn’t the right metric…

Otherwise buy every single combination and you would be guaranteed to make money if there isn’t another division 1 winner.

            • @gamemaster: Did I not say somewhere in the thread its why pro gamblers can't aim for it as 2 or more winning tickets kill the goose .
But stop every everyone buying a ticket and buy every combination in some fantasy world you will clean up . This is the imaginary EV .

    I would do:

    Pay off my mortgage

Create an education fund for my daughter 2mil should suffice for her to learn anything she like.

Buy 20 house (10 existing & 10 new) expecting $20k rent per annum per house and generating 400k in rent income per annum. $20mil budget.

    Buy another 2-3 houses overseas

Will change to to work part time or just do 1 property flip at any one time to keep busy.

Maximise super contribution for both wife and I.

    20mil in saving

And the rest goes to ETF.

This will retired both me and the wife so we could watch the daughters grow up.

    • Sounds alright to me

      • Probably will need a mil to give to the wife for luxury shopping.

Also will help families in need without letting them know what happened.

Some financial savvy person/group will let me know i could save on tax having the house on a loan or something. But there is no better feeling than having that commitment on your shoulders.

  • +1

No one here will win it

    • -2

Really ? Nice prediction Einstein hehe :)

    • +1

      But what if…

  • +5

Bought a ticket because of this thread. Bought a syndicate. Will give op $10k if I win over a million. Wish me luck.

    • +2

No one wished me luck so I didn't win :(

  • +1

No, I do not need to pay maths illiteracy taxes.

  • Anyway for a bargain site here my tip .
    Buy 2 X 18 games for $43.60 ( $21.80 each ) total instead of 36 games for $43.70 and save 10 c :)
Against the rules ( gambling ) of the site to post this great deal .

  • Don't have one. Have never bought a lottery ticket, but good luck to everyone that has…… especially Scrooge McDuck haha. Don't forget your promise to us little guys when you win ;)

  • I wouldn't tell anyone if I won, not even my wife.

    • Makes you think huh

That person you just passed could be a lottery winner.. maybe thats why people mug people because they think they are super rich i mean chances are as good as lotto lol haha

  • I didn't win. I don't think I've ever tried lotto and now OzBargain has cost me $9.70c..

    Hey, I got off easy!

  • So many posts but doesn't anyone want revenge? >.<

  • +1

  • 10.80 win in Div9. I spent 24.30 haha.

  • +4

A syndicate of 250pp won 60mil in WA.

    • +5

I'd much rather that than one person winning $60 million.

      • -1

That's a terrible thing to say.

        Shame on you.

      • Too bad those 250 people don't care what you think with their 240k

        • They at the club making it rain right now.

Or at home planning their big party celebration with their entire family and friends.

  • Didn't anyone here win more than the cost of the ticket?

  • I won 64 dollars

  • Won $17.90 using the numbers I have saved

  • +1

    I won

    $10.40

  • Of my $210 investment I lost $145 or won $55 hehe .
I hope they don't have a big one for a long time :)

    • you mean gambling. Buying a lottery ticket is not an investment :]

    • I spent $210, I lost $86.40 or won $123.60.

  • +4

    $30.30 for 25 games. Won $39.55 (2x div 9, 1x div 8). Winning.

    • +5

Yes ATO, this is the man here

  • +1

I've been Robbed like Shannon Noll

    • +4

Yeah me too, lost $10 and got nothing. This was a terrible deal, this website is powered by lies.

  • Two newts seemed to have won it all

    • +1

You mean 251 newts. One ticket belonged to a 250-strong syndicate from Kalgoorlie. The other is allegedly a single winner from Coffs Harbour.

  • -1

    Hi guys,

I just returned from Coffs Harbour.

What are the winning numbers so I can check the ticket I bought there?

  • +5

    Spent ~$145, won $1305.

  • -1

I looked up how they won it. They took Powerhit, several system 7,8,10s and a 12, which won

    • Great logic Pam find the ticket the winner bought and figure out why !
So mathematically they had an advantage because of a powerhit vs spending the same on normal tickets ?
      Pigs may fly too .
All I can say is even with 250 people these people would have gambled a lot with those tickets they bought hehe .
They must have a good job Pam pls research .

  • The ticket all up cost 25000 , 100 each, but even without winning first prize they would have won something, because you only need 2 numbers and a powerball to win something. They had back up games, and guaranteed powerball. The system12 powerhit cost 19000. Some of the others were much less.

  • +1

Won 10.40 from $30 of tickets

  • I actually dont believe people can really win … every jackpot sounds like a story which making a hope for struggling people.

    • it does seem like that aye.. very conspiracy almost too good to be true

  • I think i bought like $100 worth and got back maybe $50 or $70 so not the worst thing in the world..the dream and fantasy is nice.. i mean its why i ozb i pretend u guys are my real life friends..r ight right ?

  • I have better odds of falling onto someone and getting pregnant than winning PB and I'm male.

I think there should be a new version of lotto where if jackpot reaches 10 million, it's a raffle style and 10 winners will be chosen out of that raffle, so at least 10 people have 1 million each. At least there are guaranteed winners and 1 million is enough for people to kick start their life.

Each raffle is $10 each, so that's 100,000 tickets. At least you have a 1/100k to win 1 million, a person cannot win twice in one game and the max tickets purchased is 1000.

I know there's Lucky Lotteries but that just seems too complicated for what it is and to my understanding, there's no guaranteed winner of the first prize.

    • to my understanding, there's no guaranteed winner of the first prize.

Incorrect. There's a guaranteed winner every draw. It's is basically a raffle. The jackpot however, is a different story…but t's not that complicated?

How do I win Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot?
Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot has 10 cash prize levels and 10 consolation prize levels plus a chance to win the jackpot. To identify the winners, each game has 2 draws.

The first draw determines the guaranteed winning numbers. To win a cash prize, your number must match one of the winning numbers drawn. But if you miss by a whisker, any numbers that are 1 number off the winning numbers drawn will win a consolation prize.

The second draw determines the jackpot number. If the jackpot number is the same as any of the winning numbers drawn in the first draw, then the jackpot prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers drawn, the jackpot prize will jackpot each draw until won.
