What Speeds Are You Getting with HFC nbn?

I'm with Aussie Broadband 1000/50 and getting 80/40 with HFC NBN. Why did liberals have to ruin our Internet?

    How are ethernet speeds

    • I am using ethernet

        In no particular order.

        1. Aussie BB have put you on 100/40 instead of 1000/50. Check that your Aussie BB account says nbn Ultrafast or Power House nbn.
        2. Your router isn't up to the task for Gigabit. What is the model number of your router?
        3. Your computers ethernet port is only capable of 100Mbps.
        4. A faulty or old ethernet cable.
        5. Router QoS settings need to be turned off or adjusted.

Why bothering helping op who just create a 25 words posts like asking for help but actually just being a whinger

          • +7

@avoidfullprice: For every whinging OP who gets help, there are several people who come across these posts/comments (or search and find them later) who get value out of comments like the above, which is very informative.

Call ABB and speak with support as their tech support is good.

When I signed up I was initially only getting half speed. Called up and they fixed it over the phone, wrong plan had been set up.

    Because of Murdoch?

  • Less than I was getting when I just had straight cable, i.e. pre-NBN.

The one thing you can trust a government to do is (profanity) something up that was being more the adequately provided by the market.

  • on 50/20 and getting 50/20

Why did liberals have to ruin our Internet?

Because most people voted for them…. Hopefully you didn't with a comment like that!

What Speeds Are You Getting with HFC nbn?

NBN HFC 100/20 plan here, getting 105/18. So happy enough.

  • Can you do a speedtest from the router itself? (some routers support this)
    What model is your router?
Can you check the transfer speeds between two devices on the network?

Next step is call Aussie. Seems unlikely your HFC itself can only manage 80mbps, since all that happened was the NBN tapped into what was already a way faster network.

    • Are you calling HFC "way faster"?

      • Way faster than 80mbps.

          Faster than FTTP?

          • +3

@notabank: At this moment in time they are effectively equal for residential. On 1000/50 on HFC and I get pretty damn close to it via Ethernet - different story at the enterprise level

          • -1

            @notabank: Nah HFC isn't faster.

            HFC = 750-1000/50.
FTTP = 1000/400 (can be easily increased with upgrades).

            • @Twix: Umm those are the maximum residential speeds.

This means Home Ultrafast on the HFC Network will operate at most times with a Peak Information Rate of between 500 to 750Mbps but with the potential to burst up to the Peak Information Rate of 990 Mbps (depending on but not limited to, the Frame Size and line speed capability - see section
              2.2.2.1 for more information).

nbn™ Ethernet - Product Technical Specification

  • On a 50/20 plan getting 53/18.

  • I get max line speed no matter my plan. Your router or gigabit wiring probably is limiting here TBH.

On 250/25 with superloop, getting about that speed. Seems more likely a problem on your end than with the network. Have you checked the ABB POI thing to see if your CVC is maxed out and waiting for them to upgrade it?

  • On 100/20 getting 105-115/18

  • 80Mbps is low for Aussie if you have a 100Mbps plan. They should be over-provisioning so you get >100Mbps in reality.

I have a 1000/50 plan with ABB on HFC. As I write this (peak usage time) I'm getting 825/47 on speedtest.net. Unlike other speed tiers, 1000Mbps is not gauranteed on HFC particularly in peak hour. It's a 'best effort' service. Outside of peak evening hours I usually max out at around 920-930Mbps down.

  • I'm on Aussie BB's 1000/50 plan with HFC, just did a test and got back 578/46 via Wifi.
I've never quite got above 700, but that's probably congestion and my router limits.

  • Use the ABB app for a speed test directly to the HFC Modem.

Secondly, connect directly to the HFC modem and run speed test bypassing your WAP/Router

  • 935/41 on ABB HFC.

Sounds like it might be an issue on your end. I'd suggest contacting ABB support.

  • Im on 1000/50 with ABB, downloads normally 900-950, uploads normally 40-45

Had to do a firmware upgrade on my router before I saw speeds above 100..

  • Switched from Tangerine to Spintel last week on HFC 50/20. Can't tell the difference between both companies with typical speed of 48-52/18-19 even during peak hours.

Surprisingly, Tangerine had very few disconnections over the last 6 months. Too bad the honeymoon period of 6 months is over and I am too cheap not to save $15/month for another 6 months. Took 3 hours from 12pm to 3pm to complete the churn.

  • Superloop 50/20 it usually does around 49mbs day in day out

  • Myrepublic 100/40 HFC getting 111/37

  • Worst ever experience from BELONG, they disconnected my 30 NBN plan after being with them for 5 years without my knowledge and after lodging support email (can't talk to human being BTW) they asked me to re-join / re-apply at much higher price!! WTF.. To make it worse, they refusing to refund me the remaining 25days left of the already paid month. I will have no option but to lodge formal complain to the Telecommunication OMBUDSMAN. NOT HAPPY JAN.
Joined MORE at cheaper rate, higher speed, much better service with people you can call them in case you need help.
