Can you drink this is you are lack toes intolerant?

    • The package says contains milk so to be safe, I'd say no. For me I'm less affected by powdered milks than fresh milk though. Also for future reference it's "lactose" unless that was intentional.

      • +2

        Woosh.

      • +1

I am also less effected by milk powder than milk itself. I realised I couldn’t digest homogenised milk which is the most common milk variety in the supermarket and switched to non homogenised milk which isn’t much expensive than the generic brands . Milk Doesn’t affect me anymore . Give it a try !

        • Followed advice, bad diarrhoea :(

          • @buckster: Sorry mate. It worked for me and so did it for a lot of my Asian friends . It’s a very common issue we have . Sadly that leaves you with just the lactose free milk.
            Sorry again

        • affected*

    • +47

I hate people with no toes and still manage to drink this, no issues.

      • +2

I hate people with no toes

        Well that's a bit mean :(

      • -5

So you are lack toes intolerant too, as you hate people with no toes. I am intolerant of your intolerant, they might lean on one side or the other but they still can stand up for themselves.

    • +13

Should be ok, lack thumbs on the other hand…

    • Yes. I don't see why people who have no tolerance for those without toes cannot drink this?

  • +2

the lipton ones are $6.5 for 5 servings, cant imagine it to be that much of a difference at all

    • +1

I've tried the avalanche ones, chattime and bubble time.
the chattime ones are the best going to try this one

      • Chatime is like $10 for 4 but definitely the best!

        • +1

Where do you buy chatime kit?

        • +1

wollies had it on sale at my local, 6 bucks for the oolong

      • can you try the lipton ones and let us know

        • I prefer the Lipton, but put the pearls in a small amount of boiling water for a couple of minutes and add skim milk instead of cold water to tea mix.
Think Costco had large packets of these J way teas today for about $24.

      • +4

I've tried Avalanche, Chatime, Lipton, and Bubble Me. I thought Avalanche was awful. The tea was very weak. Lipton was much better, but the pearls weren't sweet. Chatime had weak tea as well, but the pearls were better. So the Lipton tea sachet with Chatime pearls worked. Bubble Me is the best of the 3.

I've also tried brewing proper tea with condensed milk and adding the pearls to it. That was the best.

Maybe I should try this brand too!

        • +2

I agree with you, I bought caramel avalanche and it was horrible. Chatime is too weak, but I made he mistake of buying the jelly one so haven’t tried the pearls. Bubble me has the best tea flavour, but too expensive. My favourite is Lipton, milk tea and brown sugar, I like the harder tasteless pearls.

    • +1

Yeap. Bought that and now bought 4. Can't beat fresh boba but its not bad for an instant.

      • +2

Some of the reviews in that last post said it tasted terrible. Has anyone else actually tasted these and has a positive review?

        • I didn't mind it. if you follow the instructions to the tee it shouldn't taste bad. hence I bought 4 more for them lazy days.

  • I'll try it and see how it goes. Bought 2

    🇹🇼 ❤️

    • +10

Hopefully they will still be Taiwan. A little worried now that all the attention is on Russia, China will get away with taking over taiwan

    • Thanks, it is made in Taiwan the origin of bubble milk tea, thanks for pointing out. I just bought 2

  • +2

Are this better than the Lipton / avalanche /cha time ones @ woollies and coles

Liptons are made in china though.

    • +1

Imo the cha time ones were better than the Lipton ones.

      • +1

        100% sure.
The other Lipton range, like the ice tea range is also super sweet

    • Well thats a bummer

  • -4

Much prefer regular tea, which costs about 3c per tea. Sometimes I get the spiced Indian teabags if I’m feeling fruity.

    • +20

Interesting. Do you get fruit tea when you're feeling spicy too?

    • +4

Regular tea and this really have nothing to do with one another. This is liquid dessert.

      • -1

I agree. Regular tea is natural, this is the most artificial synthetic muck I've ever had the misfortune of ingesting.

    • +1

what do you mean? They're all loads of sugar and artificial flavour.

      • i thought the pearls are made from a vegetable..

        • Tapioca

        • +1

Pearls are made from oyster and mussels. and were attacked by those Nippon bastards

    • which one is local? all the tea and pearl from the local milktea shops are imported

    • +1

      @OzBargainerr Taiwan #1.

    • +2

Bubble tea is literally a Taiwanese thing, what do you mean lmfao

  • +2

Bought 10. Thank you! I pay $20 ea at my local Asian grocer so I stocked up..

    Winters coming.. literally 😂

  • thanks will try this one out

  • +1

I used to drink order original milk tea everytime I went to the shops. Now I buy those packs of 15 "Aik Cheong teh Tarik 3 in 1" (I find this is the nicest flavour) and just make a cup of it at home. If you buy the instant boba, it will be over half the price of this.

    • Which instant boba?

      • I dunno, I never bought one as I realised I liked the tea part more than the boba 😂 but there's a few on Amazon and I see it in Asian shops as well, 1 packet for under $5

    • +2

Much cheaper just to DIY, i get a 1 kilo pack of tapioca balls from my local Asian store for ~$9 and mix it with lipton ceylon tea (brewed double strength) + condensed milk + milk + ice.

Total costs around $20, tastes like Thai Milk tea with boba and lasts me many many serves.

  • +2

I bought these ones, the pearls (boba) are very good but the taste of the milk is quite average. Costco also sell a pack where the milk tastes good but the pearls taste horrible.

  • +1

Tapioca I heard rumours that stuff is unhealthy and might be made from dodgy factories with inferior plastic material or some other harmful stuff that isn't meant to be edible similar to the melamine incident with China milk powder is that true?

    • +6

that's why someone pointed out this is made in Taiwan, which has a high standard of food control.

      • +1

and that's why its usually $21 bucks normally, the good stuff ain't cheap.

        Buy up lads!

    • Supposedly recycled car tyres have been used in the dodgy China made pearls

      • +1

Made in Taiwan, but yeah those old tyres taste great, can even use those wire thread in it as tooth picks. This must be a bargain, as the process of recycling those tyres would cost 100s times more then just boiling up some starch balls

        • +1

You would be surprised. Lots of free discarded tyres from a population of 1.4 billion people. Guessing you aren't familiar with all the food incidents in China.

            @Sammyboy:

Although they were unable to confirm what the pearls were made of, they described the material as “highly adhesive.”

Although the Shandong Television report could not conclusively prove that the pearls were indeed made from shoes or tyres, this latest raft of bad publicity is likely to spell more bad news for the beleaguered bubble tea industry.

          • -1

@Sammyboy: i get what you mean, it not that hard to test what in these starch ball (or most food going into our country), hence we are very lucky to live in a country with strict food standards. Some slip through once and while but catch very quickly, and yes should be aware if which country our food came from.

            • @huu: scary thing is that not much imported food products are actually checked. There's just too many coming into the country. Just a random sample are actually tested. Also a lot of ingredient list stickers never list all the ingredients or are mostly false. So I generally pick food products from trusted countries or from the bigger brands (as Im assuming they would have better quality control and supervision over the factories).

    • +1

This is why if you have the time and patience, I would recommend making it yourself. The most tedious part is rolling the quantity of small balls.

500g of tapioca starch is $1 at woolies https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/49119/eraw…

  • Bought 2, thanks.

  • Brought 2, but with so many + votes, I got another 4!

  • +1

Pearl shakes. What heavenly drinks. Been around for decades. Finally getting the wider exposure it richly deserves. Not a niche beverage anymore.

  • +2

I bought a similar one at costco recently and imo its the closest to store-bought milk tea I've had. 18 packs for ~$26. Highly recommend.

    • omg agar pearls. Thank you.

  • +1 for providing paper straws

  • +1

These are pretty much 100% sugar right?

    • and agar jelly :)

      • These look like tapioca pearls though :/
The ones linked Pelilah are agar pearls.

If anyone wondering the difference, white pearls usually are agar, but agar pearls can come in other flavours like brown sugar, or sakura. Sakura pearls taste like raspberry soda imo.

  • Does microwaving the boba separate it?

    • +2

Microwave for roughly 20sec (depending on microwave) with water (enough to cover it all and a bit more).

I did the mistake of following Avalanche's instructions for their boba, pretty awful. Now I just always do the boba first then, add milk tea powder top off with boiling water.

  • +1

Back in stock but $10.99 now

    • discount went away so it seems this is the regular price now?

      • Regular price was $19.99

  • +3

    My order was just delivered.

    Note: 2oz = 59.2 ml of liquid

My 1st try = Cup with about 120ml hot water (double recommended) + microwaved pearls + 60ml cold Semi Skim UHT milk + large cube ice (2cm^3 each)
Very sweet, very nice and creamy. Strong flavour.

Next try I will increase to 200-240ml hot water to bring down the the richness.

    So what is your boba-mix?

    • 2nd try… 400ml hot water 60ml Skim Milk UHT + pearls = much much nicer, still sweet, but more mellow and can really taste the condensed milk flavour

    • double the proportions if you want a large 700ml glass boba cup, 10 ice cubes and fill the rest with milk, damn good stuff. definitely don't do this often or else addiction lol

  • Firs time trying homemade bubble tea…this $h!t is good.

  • Price increased yet again, $11.99 now. They're testing to see how far they can push it

    • It was really popular at $20.39 last year.
