  • I'm dumb, does anyone know if this would be suitable for ROG STRIX B250F GAMING motherboard? https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b250f-…

    • +2

Yes, if you click on 'unrivaled connectivity' it'll show you it has 2x M.2 slots
      Or from the tech sheet:

      Storage
      1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (SATA mode)2
      Intel® B250 Chipset :
      1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)
      3

      • +3

From the specs, it looks like only one of the two supports NVMe drives

        • -1

It'll fit in both, the SATA one is slower - no problem if he only installs the one for now (but do your own research / check the manual if you want to know all the details).

          • @sdfgsdf6478: Hi, thanks for the details. So i'm not limited to a certain read speed or anything from the main m.2 slot?

            • @Jamesozbargain: It should be fine. Just make sure you check your manual and plug it in the correct one.

          • +3

@sdfgsdf6478: It will physically fit in both but will NOT operate in any SATA only m.2 slot.

970 evo plus is an NVME drive (that cannot communicate via SATA) and must be put in the m.2 socket supporting PCIe 3.0x4 not the SATA m.2 one

            • @AussieDeals: I'm not sure so I won't argue - but he can definitely use at least one (which was his original question)

              • +3

@sdfgsdf6478: Clarifying for them to ensure they know to not stick it in the wrong slot as the drive won't function at all rather than just operating at slower SATA speeds

  • Anyone know if these would work in a NAS? Just starting to learn about this right now

    • +2

It can, if you have a NAS that supports M.2 or if you buy an adapter. Wouldn't recommend it unless you have a very specific use-case. For regular storage, just buy a traditional harddisk (preferably WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf for NAS)

  • Just looking for ideas. I'm downsizing into a sff PC. I had the following in my old build:
    - 1 X 2tb nvme
    - 1 X 1tb nvme
    - 1 X 500gb sata SSD
    - 1x 4 tb 3.5inch

Now my sff build can only accommodate the nvme drives and an SSD but I don't think it's enough storage. I dealt want to be able to access the 4tb HDD so I can transfer media files to it when I'm done with them and also use it as my Plex database but I don't want an always powered on enclosure. Anyone have ideas?

Upgrade old 500gb SSD to a 2tb one and also? Get an external SSD and connect it to my router?

    • I ran a "NAS" device made up of a thin client and a stack of External hdd's at one point which worked quite well. Good for cooling, they are all independantly powered and fairly efficient.

  • Looks oos, unable to add to cart

    • Price gone back up to $169.

  • Farrrk been looking at this every day this week for a drop, I go get some chow and see this and come back and it's back up.. ffffffuuuuu

  • Does it work with ps5?

    • -2

Another ubiquitous PS5 question in every SSD deal.

    • +2

      this one isn't compatible.

  • Is it worth to get the 980 pro over this? What are the main differences?

Also, how does this compare to the Crucial P5 Plus?

    • Biggest difference is 970 Evo is PCI-e gen 3, 980 Pro is gen 4. Hence it can support much higher speeds (assuming your system also supports gen 4).
