I remember the early days of people hoarding it and charging hundreds for bottles.

    • Yep. Back when covid just started people would hoard these and bottles of Glen 20 and sell them on eBay how times have changed

        Next up is aerogard.

        • +2

After that is damp-rid and other desiccants ( for those on the east coast)

        • +1

Sigh it's something I would hoard. Freaking mosquito's love attacking me.

    • So is this now deflation

-99.99999999% deflation on hand sanitiser cost

    The future of RATs

  • My wife just bought something and they give one to her.

Expire on 29/3/2022 but not sure why? Not going to eat it.

I guess it depends how airtight the seal is. Eventually the alcohol will evaporate in the air, so it won't be as concentrated, thus losing effectiveness.

      • +4

This will be over 60% alcohol.
If the alcohol had evaporated then the bottle would look very empty.

    • +1

Lots of things expire that aren’t food.

      • +8

        Like people.

        • Too real for me rn

        • long pork is food.

        • Tell that to the sharks in WA - people are food

          • @Skullytor: Fish are friends, not food (but people are food)

    • the labeling might be there for trump supporters.

    • +2

Might only be able to kill 99.8% of germs instead. Real deal-breaker.

Hand sanitiser was an essential part of basic daily hygiene long before covid. Unfortunately some people only started practicing hygiene when covid it. Even more unfortunate, seems lots have gone back to being filthy vermin.

Do you work in the medical field? What are you basing your opinion on??

I can give you my front line opinion on the matter. With the rise of hand sanitizer, mask usage and social distancing I think we’ve had one patient with influenza in my ICU in 2 years. Prior to that we’d get at least 30/year of which a third would die.

No doubt hand sanitizer plays an important part. It may not be as good as a proper hand wash, but it’s miles in front of doing nothing to your hands. I’m not saying it’s the answer to everyone’s prayers - but keeping your hands hygienically clean goes a long way.

          • @flashi007:

What about the lockdowns and having to work from home.
Less interaction with people will mean less influenza. That's the reason we were told to isolate to stop COVID spreading.

What about the lockdowns and having to work from home.

I’d classify that under social distancing

          • @flashi007:

What are you basing your opinion on??

Common sense and critical thinking? I know that's heresy to people like yourself but hear me out, high priest of the Church of Covid…

This is precisely why medical professionals have never been less trusted or respected than they are now.

You know absolutely nothing about the fundamental principles of medicine and instead just parrot anything the for-profit healthcare/pharmaceutical industry dictate to you, reducing you to glorified pill-pushers and product salesman.

You do realise germs and bacteria are the building blocks of your immune system? By depriving yourself of regular exposure to them and other pathogens, you're actually decreasing your immune system's ability to fight future infections and diseases, not improving it.

The immune system needs a regular "workout" to maintain peak function; keeping it hermetically-sealed and overly-santised is precisely the reason why we have exploding allergy rates among children in the Western world and overall declining health in the millennial generation on a scale not-seen since before the industrial revolution.

        • And that garbage is still less effective than soap and water.

Hand sanitiser is designed for when you don’t have access to soap and water.

You do realise the hominid species lived for 2 million years without hand sanitiser, soap or modern hygiene products?

You do realise only recently in human history have we started having people jetting from one side of the planet to the other in only a matter of hours? Spreading more diseases and spreading them faster. People also dropped dead much much earlier until recently.

Your immune system does exist, contrary to what the modern, for-profit health and pharmaceutical industry would like you to believe.

Yep and my immune system can do it’s best to fight the germs I will still inadvertently come into contact with. But basic hygiene will reduce the strain my immune system is placed under.

If people in the third world can sh*t in the same streams they bathe in and not suffer any ill effect

Seriously? Not suffer any ill effects? Have you compared the average lifespan of our country to that of the third world.

Hand sanitiser was an essential part of basic daily hygiene

Hahahahahaha. No it wasn't. Just wash your hands with soap and water like a normal person. People weren't dying in the streets before hand sanitiser in a bottle came around.

        • +1

Just wash your hands with soap and water like a normal person.

It is designed for times when you can't just magically wash your hands.

Lets say you're at a restaurant.

You go to the bathroom to wash your hands.

You turn the tap off - bam reinfected hands.

You open the bathroom door - bam reinfected hands.

You return to your table and pull out the chair to sit down - bam reinfected hands.

You pull your chair into the table - bam reinfected hands.

This is when you use hand sanitiser. Unless you frequent restaurants that have taps at each table?

People just don't think. Too busy being rude and arrogant calling everyone else germaphobes.

          • +1

@PainToad: Using sanitiser at every single one of those points is being a germaphobe. It's also quite easy to avoid touching a lot of those things if that's what you really want to do.

            • +1

              @brendanm:

Using sanitiser at every single one of those points is being a germaphobe.

No one said anything about using it every single one of those points.

You use hand sanitiser once, after all these points, just prior to touching your face or anything you’re going to put into your mouth.

Ever stop and think that maybe other people aren’t germaphobes, it’s actually you that is gross?

              🤦‍♂️

It's also quite easy to avoid touching a lot of those things

All of them are high touch areas.

              • @PainToad:

Nope. How often are you randomly ill?

All of them are high touch areas.

You can touch with things other than your hands…

Can confirm its effective against the virus.
