  • Wondering if this 256gb is a better buy than SE3 256gb?

Assuming the price difference is only about $300

What would make the SE3 appealing? The 5G part?
If you want a budget iPhone, I’d go for the SE2. If you want a compact iPhone, get the Mini. If you want an affordable slightly bigger phone with more camera options, much bigger display and better specs than the SE2, get this one.

        Desperate for Home Button.

I’m a big fan of the home button myself, especially for Apple Pay. However, that means you’re sacrificing quite a few things. The SE3 seems to be just another iPhone 8 with the latest processor and a 5G chip. Honestly, if that means you can snap up a SE2 for even less, I’d go for that. It’s plenty fast for that tiny screen.

@bozbargain: another iPhone 6s you mean

            • @vinnychase: Or iPhone 6 for that matter. But it’s actually just really a super up-specced iPhone 8. Most components are identical I believe (casing, camera hardware, wireless charging module, waterproofing, display).

              • @bozbargain: The main appeal is price. iPhone SE3 is probably going to be priced the same. iPhone SE (1) did not retain value well at all, so it is likely SE2 will suffer the same fate (which might be a good thing for someone wanting to get one - wait for SE3 to knock the price of SE2 down even further).

With SE, it is generally best to get the latest one. Let's face it, if the CPU is not a factor, why even bother upgrade your existing iPhone? Could A15's the energy efficiency improvement help SE's battery life a bit? SE2's battery life is bad. Back camera sensor / lens probably will be upgraded, but the front one will most likely not change. Also, would Apple allow Cinematic Mode in video recording on iPhone SE3 or it is going to block SE3 from having that?

Might as well wait a few days. Have to hand it to Apple (Apple has learned its lessons from way back). It's fine for a lower end product to receive latest CPU (it's okay for Apple products to compete with each other), unlike Android makers, mid range phones use mid range crippled CPUs.
