What's so special about these jackets?

They break ice for you so you don't have to

They're very warm, light and stylish. Can be used for casual office wear, on trek, excercise etc..

Much better than the stuff you see at Kathmandu, Macpac

Good if you live in Birkenhead. I have no idea where it is…

        • +14

          It's just above the Birkenbody

@chonkie: I suck at directions. Ended up at birkentoes.

        • It's Birkenhead Point Factory Outlet, Drummoyne (Inner West Sydney).

Icebreaker (New Zealand) was the world’s first company to use a natural layering system using technical blends of merino wool to achieve a balance of properties with less reliance on petrochemical fibers e.g. sustainability, light, durable, comfortable, warm, moisture wicking etc. Icebreaker was one of the innovators in the outdoors clothing scene and charge a premium for their products. But all outdoor clothing brands make these product these days and have caught up and even surpassed Icebreaker. Icebreaker quality has dropped since manufacturing moved to China but their prices remain high. My advise "Only buy Icebreaker when on sale"

      • Totally agree. Do you know of any good alternatives? I am keen to try other brands as I have noticed some of the products have dropped in quality after moving to China and have a lower merino percentage.

        • I find Smartwool be superior to Icebreaker, though its price is higher and not many products in AU. Macpac is good enough especially when on sale.

          • @vovka: Will take a look thank you

        • Brands known to use merino wool (no particular order): Woolpower, Minus33, Wool& (women only), Woolly, WoolX, Pendleton, Woolrich, Allbirds, Darn Tough Vermont (best socks ever), Smartwool, Ibex, Duckworth, Ridge Merino, Unbound Merino, Helly Hansen, Wool & Prince, Mons Royale, Point6, Makers and Riders, Finisterre, Outboro, Patagonia, Ortovox, Dilling, EcoAble Apparel, Smittenmerino, Rab, Seagale (I probably missed a few)

If I had to choose only one my favorite outdoor wear brand is Páramo (UK brand not known for merino garments) I do have Helly Hansen merino shirts.

      • Yeah no aay i am paying full price! One brand that i do like is Patagonia, but the don’t go on sale very often

        • I didn’t know they did merino, will take a look. Thank you

      • This company claims they make their clothing in AU - https://wildernesswear.com.au.

      • I still prefer icebreaker above anything else but buy them only on sale…

But they look like 10$ jackets to me, why would anyone pay $50 for these ugly ass jackets.

    • A lot of the Icebreaker gear is made from merino.

    • +1

not sure why but people downvoted you calling ugly ass jackets as ugly ass jackets.

    Nice racks

  • Anyone know if Melbourne has the same?

  • Going to Birkenhead tomorrow anyway, will have a look as i like the icebreaker gear.

@laurenlauren was at smith street outlet on thursday. no $50 jacket on sale. only up to 70% off which is their usual outlet sale

  • God damn icebreaker gear is awesome. I wish this was in Qld!

    • How can your wear icebreaker gear on QLD, does it ever get below 20c? JK
      LoL

      • Fair point actually. Still I am comfy during those 2 weeks when it is under 20!

  • Isn't the sign misleading? $50 is not "Under $50" :/

Guessing almost all sizes will be XXXL or XXXS. There's at least one XL on the rack.

    • +2

      Exactly.

The sales are to get rid of the unpopular sizes.

The only way to get the more popular sizes,
is to go to the members' only sales, before they are open to the public.

    • Nope, they had all sizes for men yesterday. But not always the style that you want.

Ladies, bit less choices, most are XS or L

    • On Saturday there was there was everything from S -> XXL in all the styles. Only 1 or 2 mediums in each style though. Quite a lot of sizes in the women's items as well. Also they will hate me for the influx of calls, but in the past they have been quite good for checking stock over the phone.

  • Limited sizes and styles but crazy cheap, got 2 vests for 30 bucks each, genuine Merino.

    • Glad you found it useful!
