Is any of there jackets actually waterproof or ideal for rain?

    • +26

      No function, fashion only!

    • +12

Superdry is a brand name, not a statement about the product.

You need to read the product description. In this case it says "Durable water repellency – this fabric has been coated with an advanced water-resistant finish".

Look up water-resistant vs waterproof to discover what that means.

      • +1

Whats a good waterproof option that doesnt cost $500+

        • +14

A puffy jacket then a larger rainproof coat.

        • -1

I don't buy misleading brand name goods, so cannot recommend Superdry. When I need something that breathes I use my Goretex jacket which needs occasional recoating with a waterproof spray. When I just want waterproof and light, I have a Macpac waterproof bought at BCF on a huge discount. I'm not sure about the price now.

The Macpac is single layer and stands up to heavy rain, BUT jackets like that don't breathe, so you can get a bit sweaty.

        • +4

Selley's Water Shield costs around 20 bucks a can. Claims to make pretty much anything waterproof. I have not tried it myself.

And there's a bunch of other brands with hydrophobic or waterproofing spray-on products.

        • Saw a few 10,000 waterproof rated jackets for 60-100$ at Decathalon.

        • +5

I bought one of these recently after seeing a post here. I'm very happy with it.

Decathlon Tribord sailing gear is great value and very functional. I have sth like the blue and white for $45 on sale - https://www.decathlon.com.au/p/men-s-sailing-waterproof-wind…

No puffer jackets are rain or waterproof. You need a jacket with a shell and breathable otherwise it's like weather a plastic bag.

  • Warm enough for Seoul or Japan winter ?

    • +2

      Yes

      • +9

Though wearing a fake Japanese brand in Japan is another decision altogether

        • At least they changed their slogan, 極度乾燥(しなさい) was just embarrassing and caused Japanese people to actually laugh out loud on first reading.

      • So, way too hot for Sydney

  • +18

not down , forget about it

    • +5

i’m actually after one with synthetic fill, makes for easier washing and if you tear a hole the filling doesn’t come out until you can fix it.

      • +19

        So you're down with synthetic?

    • +1

I have a 600 loft down puffer and a synthetic down super dry puffer and tbh the super dry is far warmer and wind resistant

Doesn't breather as well but that doesn't matter when it's (profanity) cold and you're not sweating

      • +1

        synthetic down?

        • Polyester

  • +1

My large navy Superdry PRO ELITE has been my go to jacket for the past 5 years. I have been very happy with it.

Ended up buying both grey and brown in the same size. Here's hoping for similar fitment and warmth.

  • Does this run bigger or small if anyone knows?

    • +6

Slightly smaller, I found with Superdry I always need to go one size up.

      • +1

Just one size? I think it’s like 2 sizes undersized.

      • Ha I’m the opposite. Two city parkas and they’re both too big. Need to buy smaller

  • +3

It's like Macpac and Superdry just know that OzB colour sells

    • Haha it's a nicely colour coordinated post

  • OP, Please bring some offers for wind cheaters.

  • +9

I see the point in mentioning the macpac halo but it's worth mentioning they're very different jackets, this being synthetic fill while the halo is down.

The halo will be much warmer and less clammy

    • Synthetic is BS and will make you sweat and wet, right?

Might as well go for the aldi jackets.

      • Yes synthetic fill will make you sweat more and won't be as warm as down.
It's much easier to clean and maintain though, so there are some benefits.
You can put down jackets in the wash but they will continually become less and less puffy as the down get soaked and dries, at least thats my experience with a few jackets

  • -3

I like this style over Macpac - targeted for a younger audience. If you’re 50+ maybe stick with Macpac

Being synthetic you would wear a jumper underneath so get two sizes up as this already runs small

  • +2

Everything on the model looks a size too small. Or is it just my eyesight?

  • +1

uh oh took the size guide as accurate and ordered medium. did not read this commentary. wish me luck

    • +2

I have an 4 year old Superdry PRO ELITE jacket. I generally need a size midway between L and XL. But the L fits great. I have ordered two Ls hoping its a similar sizing. You might be ok

      • Thanks! Can confirm - M was OK for me. Great jacket - very happy

  • White one is $149
    Grey one is $99

  • +3

I gotta say, the quality of their stuff seems pretty good. Been wearing the same vest for 6 years, usually everyday in winter, and holding up pretty well.

  • -2

any one know where is it made?

    • Nah they dig Macpac

      • +3

        *Canada goose, moncler or northface

Wearing macpac will catch you a wild ozbargainer

  • +1

I have this one and the zipper chain is sharp, often hurt my hands when I use the pockets. Don’t recommend because of this, but otherwise it is a warm jacket.

    • 2nd this. Try not to put my hands in the pocket

Who wouldn't want to buy it after reading this

  • Macpac size "S" is equal to what size of SD? Anyone, thanks

    • +2

      XS

      • So these run large? i thought they run small..

  • damn just paid 160 for the white one last month

    • is it any good?

      • +1

I've got an older superdry puffer that i just broke the zipper on after 2-3 years, this one has more material around the collar and has a nice soft lining on the inside and pockets, elastic near the wrists too. I haven't worn it outside yet but I would say it feels about as warm as any other thick puffer. Zipper also seems much more durable haha

  • Almost pulled the trigger, but my daughter said it's a dad brand.

    • +6

      yea, so you are good

  • I have this and it's super warm and thick

  • Bought an XL, I usually wear large. I think they run small…. but we'll see.

    • I normally wear Large or XL. Just tried them on in store. Large was too small and tight. You could get away with it, but XL is the better choice. Seems to run a bit small.

      • +1

Yep definitely size up especially if you're planning on layering as well.

  • +1

While i'm not interested on this jacket itself your website is actually more interesting to me! Did not know this existed and I think it'll be a really useful website for me as i'm currently on the hunt for a specific jacket! Would probably use this from now on

  • Their sizes are very small. and my experience is that items look disappointing compared to the photos on the website.
Really like some of the designs though.

  • Personally I don’t find this jacket design appealing, but to each their own,

The look of this things remind me of Michelin tyre man.

  • I just hate that Superdry stamp logo on the back.

Intriguing maybe 5 years ago… But dated and honestly tasteless now.

  • +1

Fwiw my experience with super dry is size up, I'm a medium in everything but a large in super dry

  • here puff here puff

  • Damn, Grey all sold out

    • dame, on top of 99? that's cheap

      • Ya, closing down sale

  • Chaddy store had small size. So check out stores for sizes.

  • Get the moncler puffer jacket to look like a rich international student

  • damn, should have listed to others here, got a large and it's just a little too small.

    Great Jacket though

  • Exchanged it, went with XXL, XL was ok, a bit more fitted.

    Black one is now $150

    • What do you think of the length? I bought xl and it fit well but thought it was a tad bit too short, would prefer if it was like a cm or two longer.

  • Looks like other colours black, blue and grey are now also $99.

    • But no hood ?

      • You are right. I missed that. Thanks

  • Does anyone know if stores pay ozbargain to have deals highlighted? Or who decides what makes a deal highlight-worthy if not? Not intending to shit on this deal - just interested!

    • It is Automatic.

      • Okay but what is it based on? It doesn't seem like popularity/upvotes because there are way more popular deals at the moment that aren't highlighted

        • Expired/Out of stock then becomes available again.

          • @Fredfloresjr: I noticed this deal was highlighted at the time and wasn't expired/out of stock and brought back. It was also posted by a store rep which is what made me curious about this one.

  • Can attest that Superdry jackets are really well made. I don't mind their design and logo, so each to their own.

DO NOT buy them at full price as their discount can be pretty ridiculous.

I bought this https://superdry.com.au/products/city-padded-parka-jacket-bl… for $111.85 plus cashback.
Wore this in Japan winter, during heavy snow and all, and it was really warm and comfortable.

I bought another one https://www.theiconic.com.au/hooded-yachter-windbreaker-jack… for $90.30, though from Iconic. Not 100% waterproof, but I wore it during heavy rain and still can keep me dry.

Overall I'm happy with their jackets.
