Yikes, what's the regular price? That's a massive step up from Switch 1 game prices 😭

    • +82

Where have you been the last couple of months?

        • +2

          Looks like you do…..

        • I laughed

    • +11

Yeah prices are just skyrocketing as all these companies are thinking they can get away with it now.
On the flip side, preorders used to be $69 and I used to get a lot of them. Now the prices are high enough I can't justify splurging anymore. Which is great because then I get the games 2 years later at a way cheaper price and all those game breakable bugs gone.

Then again won't be surprised if they try to stop that too by making it all digital so that the public doesn't get to sway the price so much through the secondhand market.

      • +1

As much as it sucks that games prices go up, I'd barely say they are "thinking" they can get away with it… they clearly are lol

        ¯_(ツ)_/¯

        As they say..

"A fool and his money are soon parted"

      • Which is great because then I get the games 2 years later at a way cheaper price and all those game breakable bugs gone.

That's true, but usually not Nintendo exclusives by all that much. I'm just going to keep my NS2 boxed up until the homebrew community does it's thing.

        • -2

The original switch never got a reliable home brew right? Something about individual Ids burned into each machine and game
That's why the games out at launch are still exactly the same price now

        • If not for the needed day one patch, I'd say grab a MiG Switch and play offline on your new toy to your heart's content with S1 stuff until a hack comes along, but alas, there's a needed day one patch :'(

There's always day one patches in the banana stand.

There’s a few games deals at the back of the big w catalogue I havnt seen mentioned yet like assassins creed shadows $64 and civ 6 $69. Someone should post the deals. If u can wait after release date most games drop a bit but not a lot of switch games.

    • +5

So many replies but no one answered you. $120 is RRP for Mario Kart.

      • +2

Because they don't actually care about how much off the RRP it is, they just want to whine about the price regardless.

    • I used to be mad at the $50 price for a single game when I got my switch 1.

Oh how naive I was. Haha.

    • lol preordering Zelda BOTW yeah lets all do that for the 3RD TIME!!!

Wii U, Switch 1 and now switch 2

      • It was released simultaneously on Wii U and the Switch - Why would you have pre-ordered it 3 times?

Great joke though if you're happy to ignore reality.

        • because if you preordered the switch or the wii u and the game with it then its called a PRE ORDER.

  • +10

They're milking Zelda: BOTW to deaths, sounds like GTA V.

    • Most people will just pay for the upgrade. I foolishly gave away my card. Remember that they added some lore and extensions with the app that die hard fans will speedrun

      • +3

The upgrade is also free with the switch online expansion pack as an alternative.

        • +7

Not free, you're paying a subscription for access.

          • +7

@chepsk8: The subscription is to play games not for the upgrade itself. Not free but also not paid. Pretty much a bonus for those who has it

          • +2

@chepsk8: It's $13.75 for the year if you join an OzBargain family

    • GTAV milking is in another league thanks to GTA Online

    • Well … Their consoles carry a very strong first party game lineup, so they keep renewing the old ones. It makes sense for people that buy their first consoles to have a game ready to go than buying old hardware and hunt for last gen copies over marketplace or so.

However I wish there is a more affordable and not such a greedy pathway for people that already owns previous gen to upgrade their games to newer platforms. This is a better way around owning digital copies but sadly that is not the way the world works…

  • -1

What's the point in buying Mario Kart world separately? Just for the game cartridge? Isnt it better to get the console bundle?

    • +3

Console bundle includes code only, I believe.

    • +5

Physical copy, easier to resell / feels nicer

      • Is it confirmed to be full game on cartridge like Cyberpunk? Or is it that download code game key cartridge nonsense?

        • +1

its Nintendo, so you get actual cartridge

          • @pizzaforlunch: I can't be game card key (mk world is full game though)

          • +2

@pizzaforlunch: There's the old "code in a box" (no game cartridge) that we all know and love /s.
But, now there's also cartridges with nothing but the game key on it, you still get a cartridge but there the can be zero software actually in it. Not a fan of it at all myself.
Some games are confirmed to have the full game on cartidge (Cyberpunk) but others won't.

            • @A 1: okay, this 'Game-Key' thing is news to me.
I suppose this allows people to give/sell the game unlike a digital purchase?

yeah definitely not a fan of it

              • @pizzaforlunch: Yup, you can lend the game key card, or sell the game key card.

A lot of the devs are using the game key card because it's cheaper than the 64GB cartridge that Nintendo has available. 64 GB is currently the only size that the Switch 2 game cartridges come in, and I suppose they must be expensive.

When an independent game dev makes a game that is 4 GB, the 64 GB cartridge seems pretty wasteful, and pretty expensive. This seems to be the only option with the Switch 2, other than going totally digital.

                • @Droz: Yeah, there are valid reasons for it, I get it. I just prefer having the actual game software on the physical cartridge. Some time in the future, once the Switch 2 eshop servers are gone, the game key card won't do anything, and that's disappointing.
I know Nintendo does keep things available for a fairly long time e.g. While the Wii eshop is gone, I've been told you can still redownload already purchased games (happy to be corrected if wrong). So that is good.

    • +8

Some of us prefer physical. Can easily lend, sell, trade. Have something tangible. Paying $100 on a digital item feels wrong to me.

      • +3

I can't pay more than $10 for anything digital

        • So you've never bought skins?

          • @Nillionaire: Never =) Got a tomb raider trilogy for $16 these days but they are 3 games, less than $6 each.

        • This is why mobile games are infested with IAPs.

    • Some like a code as u don’t gave to install cart others like a cart so u can resell/share. Cart is probably smarter option as the games hold most of their value.

  • +1

    The games are too expensive.

  • +18

Wow nice, a Wii U game from 2017 for only $89, thankyou Nintendo for this generous gift.

    • Lol man… Not everyone owned a Wii U or wants to buy a used one in 2025 to play this eh. Also, if you played the game back in 2017 you really don't need to buy this again =D

      • Sounds like Nintendo just running rehashes of their old game. I still got my Wii U around. I don't need this stuff

  • Where do i get switch 1 games on the cheap

    • Marketplace should be filling up with them I’m guessing bc of the new switch

  • +2

That means you can using GC at JB to pm target. Another 10% off. Not too bad

    • +1

What do you mean with "to pm target"? Isn't jbhif and target completely different stores?

      • +1

        pm = Price Match

        • -1

Legend. I will do that 😂

        • -2

What about price match at Officeworks, get 5% + 10% GC?

          • +1

@Dienk: Ow tv are harder to get than jb and I don’t think ow stock many of the games. A few at launch and console maybe. It’s amazing ow has been so slow to jump into the gaming market for consoles etc.

          • @Dienk: Officeworks have just sent an email with the same price

  • +18

Still got my copy of BOTW on Wii U. 🙂

    • +4

      Same.

  • +2

Street fighter is game key card.

  • +5

    Zelda BOTW $89

    Original release date
    3 March 2017

    lol.

    • +2

Better wait for the 10th year anniversary edition for $119

  • -1

I’m cancelling my switch 2 pre order I just don’t feel it at the moment

    • +34

      Thanks for the update.

      • +4

No worries anytime, if you would like to know more in depth why that is ,message me anytime.

        • +4

if you would like to know more in depth why that is ,message me anytime.

          No need to message lol

I think the reason can be seen in the username already 😅

          • +2

@YoursTruly: Damn, I really wanted to know the in-depth reason of some random on the internet.

        • Share the reason. In detail. Serious

    • +1

I was about to ask it

    • Nice to know.

    • Yeah might cancel my eb one too and wait for a good trade deal.

  • +11

STACK WITH THE $10 NEWSLETTER SIGN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EAT THE RICHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    • Better believe I made a couple signups earlier woop woop!

      • nice nice haha

    • -1

This is the comment I was looking for, thanks.

I haven't bought from Target in ages; wasn't sure if that trick still worked.
$39 Bravely Default is much more palatable than the other stores =D

    • What is the best way to sign up to multiple newsletters? Do you have legitimate email addresses ready to go, or do you use burner addresses?

EDIT: Got it. The '+' Gmail trick works well. Instant $10 coupon obtained. Mailinator doesn't work.

  • Possible to price beat at Officeworks or not?

Would bring MKW down to $89.30

    • You'd do better to sign up to the Target newsletter and snag a tenner off

      • Or jb perks

        • You could match Target and then signup to Perks with a new number. Or you could just go to Target and use the newsletter signup that doesn't require a new phone number, and thus kind of has unlimited uses.

  • Thanks OP

price matching this MKW at JBhifi on launch day pickup

  • Would this be online only? The two Targets near me don't even stock games anymore AFAIK

  • +1

This will stack well with the commbank offer too.

    • Thank you, made me check and I have that offer too. Get $10 when you spend $50 or more.

    • Unfortunately I don't have that

  • -3

Back then it was $69 and I was able to get the game for much cheaper and the problematic games were gone.

    • +3

      What problematic games?

      • +2

Link was cancelled for being really racist.

  • +1

Just ordered MK World for $74 with $10 signup and $10 cashback from commbank yello! Thank you!
Not planning to get a switch 2 anytime soon but I'm fairly sure we won't see that price again for a long time

    • Cheers just did the same. It probably won't get this low in a good while

  • People complaining about the price of mk world but It's already on sale for 60 usd after tax

  • -1

Wait a few more months. Will be half that price

    • +1

Yeah like all the Switch games that were reduced by 50% one month after release, oh wait…

  • Why is this highlighted? It's not a deal, it's literally just an ad for Target

    • Why are bargains listed on this bargain website? Gee you stumped me.

      • Mate I'm a little jealous of how exciting life must be for you if you think this is a bargain

        • Where did you find them cheaper?

  • +1

Getting a Switch 2 and it's my first Nintendo console — never owned one before. So here's my question:

If I am borrowing my friend's Zelda BOTW for Switch 1, will I be able to play it on Switch 2 without paying the upgrade, if I don't mind the old-generation graphics?
