At those prices, I expect you're coming over daily to freshly grind them for me?

    • You got it :)

I'm sure its great coffee but the price is still a bit steep for it to be a bargain!

Coffee comes in all different quality levels. For those who like this kind of coffee I think it's a pretty good price :)

    • +2

It's a bargain for those in the market for this type of coffee - i.e. you could say that this is really expensive compared to 1KG of Nescafe Blend 43 (no judgement), but that overlooks the fact that relative to other people selling THIS type of coffee, it's a bargain - which it is. These guys are always very competitive with their pricing, and the service is second to none. And yes, the coffee here is great :-)

After the great response to our last deal from Pillar

12 up votes is hardly a "great response"

Selling out of them is though…

I respect where you're coming from when compared to other deals. However, we're a niche product and a lot of folks who bought didn't hit the up vote. So combining those two factors I personally don't think it's hyperbole :)

      • I'm glad your business is going well

        • Thanks for your support! Always appreciate your feedback :)

  • Thanks for offering such amazing coffee! Keep up the good work. Continue educating people in specialty coffee and the value chain of coffee that pays the farmers properly.

Glad to hear it! We'll try our best :)

  • Any recommendations for a dark roast?

  • Just because I saw a few posts questioning the quality of this deal, my 2 cents:

I buy all my specialty coffee through Direct Coffee - I've got access to Code Black, Market Lane, Padre and Axil within about ten minutes to home, but I can get it cheaper, delivered AND more freshly roasted from DC (which is actually rediculous).

On top of that, last time I got a badly roasted (tar black) bag from a roaster and took it back to them they told to adjust my grind (yeah no). The only time it happened with DC, he just replaced both bags no questions asked.

Also that Pillar Brazilian is actually pretty great if you're curious.

    • Really appreciate the feedback :)

    • Any recommendations on light/medium roasted beans for espresso after tasting so many?

      • Sure thing! What do you normally enjoy?

      • Sure thing, although you won't typically find much for espresso that's been roasted 'lightly' as espresso normally needs a little more time in the roaster - make espresso with a light roast and you tend to get sour (under-extracted coffee). Roasting hotter for longer increases the solubility of the coffee and therefore it's easier to get a proper extraction during an espresso shot.

Market Lane will normally roast things as a pretty 'medium' level, rarely verging on dark, and they have some great beans at the moment that add some nice, fruity acid without being too thin and tea-like (so they still have a nice, full body). Santa Isabel is my favourite of these at the moment, it's a really nice cup of espresso. Their seasonal espresso is also a good drop.

Outside of this, the current Axil single origin espressos are good drops too and shouldn't be over-roasted. The La Folie (Guatemala) would be my pick, but either would work.

Otherwise, both the single origin Brazilians currently on offer (Pillar and Market Lane) are nice, smooth, relatively gentle beans. Nice with milk as long as you're not using a lot of milk.

  • Any reccomendations for cappuccino?
And how long would express post take to Gold Coast?

    • Sure thing! Do you normally like something a bit more classic with choc and nut flavours or something a bit more fruity and acidic. Feel free to just list a blend or two that you really enjoy :)

We'd be expecting 2business days from Melbourne to the Gold coast.

      Hope that helps?

      • I usually go for something closer to the chocolate and nutty flavours.
Hmm that might be close lol I have about a week's worth of coffee left

        • Not DC, but…

The Market Lane Marimbus is a very nice, milk chocolate ish espresso but strong enough to sit well with milk (and I think I read somewhere that the price is going up shortly).

If your idea of chocolate and nuts is a darker roast, then the Axil Heavyweight Blend should hit the spot.

Or if you'd like to be a little risky and bring in some bright fruit, the Market Lane Santa Isabel is delicious, particularly with milk.

And, just so you've got four suggestions - Wide Open Road, Shady Lane - very nice, full blend that really holds up well with milk and really hits those chocolate notes you're chasing.
