    • @cutecorgi:
totally unrelated, but do you have corgi for sale ? not cute is fine

    • helium balloon, gopro and long string? i dont know i'd really be able to get a good look flying close to the roof

  • What are owners' experiences with "populous areas"? The CASA site mentions a "crowded beach" - does that mean Bondi is fine if there's 20 people around? 30? 5? Not trying to be a smart alec, just would love some examples of what authorities have told drone owners that might give some guidance as to what "populous" means.

Also curious to know peoples' experiences are with rangers, whose permission is needed to fly in national parks. Are they quick to respond? What situations do they tend to refuse or accept an application (their site is pretty vague, it mentions where a drone might impact others)

    • It's impossible to fly in public places without breaking the rules. My "friend" just takes off somewhere quiet and takes it to about 30m, you can barely hear it at that height. Karen's will get you in trouble, just fly away from people and never over them.

My friend used to fly at the park next to Australia zoo before it was fully built. Ranges didn't really care then

I have the picture right now, me riding on my electric scooter on the footpath while my drone active tracks me over my head in NSW, cops will fine the shoot out of me.🤣

    • Prepare thy anus. The cops will destroy it with them fines.

    • really i think as long as you arent being an attention whore and pissing people off do they really bother?

  • +3

how does this compare to a bayraktar? can it be used on convoy which ran out of fuel?

  • no able to freely fly it outdoor, what the good then…..
so glad i didnt buy this been wanting since 2020.

    • Yeah kinda glad i didnt end up getting the bunnings price error for a drone back in the day since i would have not been able to fly it anywhere anyway. Except maybe if i took it overseas but we all know what happened there.

      • overseas is just as bad, only people arent so worried about cops jumping out from behind every bush. i fly a small drone around the park for fun from time to time and make sure i dont piss anyone off, never had an issue (granted i do wish i could fly "blind" and check out the neighbourhood, it would probably be too much for some)

  • Any deals on the mini 2?

  • +1

Bugger it, bought. Finally got the price with having a play with

I live in the scrub, so will fly however I damn well please lol

    • +1

what if neighbour pissed and reported you ? it would be lalala terrible, right?

      • +1

Nearest neighbor is miles away and I play cricket with him, lol

        All good here

  • Can you bind a transmitter like tx16s to this drone? I’m super new to fpv and drones and my tx16s is on the way

    • +1

No they won't have djis protocols. Dji uses light bridge and some other one I forgot the name to.

  • Our company has a couple of the mini 1's, given the size and limited power, blow aways and high wind warnings are an ongoing hindrance to their practical use, are any of the newer "budget" drones any better at handling this ?

    • You need a bigger drone to fight big wind. Phantom or mavic do well against wind. The fpv doesn't really have an issue since it can go 90+mph

  • I have an android phone and one of the reviews says you can't download the dji app from playstore, however download from dji website and upload to the phone. I never thought dji would make it this hard for android users!!

    • Dont think the intention was to make it difficult. It costs companies money to have their app on the playstore.

      • +1

Agree….but we talking DJI here market leader in drone industry and they can't afford a app for android users means loosing business in my view.

        • I hardly think someone is going to forego purchasing a drone because they have to download an app from the manufacturers website over the play store.

Not saying I know why they haven't listed it on the play store, I absolutely don't, but it's $25 put put the app up and I believe that's just for the first app (happy to be corrected on that of course)

For all those posting that you can't fly anywhere - Australia is a very, very big place with a very, very thin blue line.

    Just saying.

    • +4

For sure. Even if authorities are around and you're being sensible with it like taking some shots of family, they'll let if fly (pun intended).

Casa rules are there for idiots who do idiot things get the idiot smacked.

      • +5

Yep, just be sensible. On Sunday, my wife and I walked the 1.8km to the end of Busselton Jetty. I was thinking of taking my Air 2S with me as it would be a great spot to video and photograph but decided not to as it was quite busy. We were sitting at the end admiring the view when I noticed a couple of young guys were flying a Mini 2 nearby. They were being sensible and keeping it high and not flying near people. Nobody minded. On Monday, I flew my drone at The Cut next to Bunbury harbour. I got some great video and photos of the many Dolphins in the area. It was also pretty busy but I parked well away from other cars, kept the drone over the water and never flew over anyone. There were a couple of other drones up too. Again, nobody minded.

Just be aware of your surroundings and how many people are around and you'll be fine.

          wow sounds great

Thanks everyone, after reading all the comments, decided to pick up a drone finally. Great price compared to the mini 2 and who knows how much the mini 3 will cost. Realistically the 2.7k camera will be sufficient for most people.

I think that it won't be so much of a problem as many of the comments make it out here to fly…I think we get caught too much into rules and regulations here. As long as you don't go full stupid mode and respect the airspaces of airports etc you're going to be fine.

    • All fun and games till the fine cost more than your drone.

We can issue a fine of up to $1,110 per offence.

    • Yep, that's my experience. Just be sensible.

      Enjoy the SE!

      • +1

Its those idiots that practically made it hard for every other drone owner who are sensible.

  • The Fly More version is about $140 more. Is it worth it for the carry case and extra batteries (which I think are essential)?

    • Yes in my opinion. One battery is about 20-30mins flying time, if you're going to be out on a day trip somewhere scenic you'll probably want to fly it for more than that.

The battery hub also is great. It can be used as a battery pack to charge your phone/devices instead of powering your drone if you're done flying. Bag fits everything in nicely. Some spare props and screws for the accidents.
