as if anybody is paying $6,007 for the combined set of fonts.

        • +9

That’s the combined price if someone were to purchase bit by bit over time I reckon

          • +52

@YeboMate: as if anybody is going to pay $6,007 bit by bit over time for the combined set of fonts.

            • +4

@NoApostrophePlurals: That's the combined price if someone was going to pay bit by bit over time while making money on the side from their sign business, I think

                  @Bytelover: C-c-c-combo breaker

                • +25

@Bytelover: People take fonts for granted because they come 'free' with microsoft word. These companies in fact pay and invest a lot in fonts. The actual designing of a typeface is a lot of work. They are hand drawn and it's not just 26 characters of the alphabet. It's an expanded alphabet of characters for different languages, ligatures (take a closer look at letters like ff), punctuation marks, different weights and styles like bold and bold italics. These then have to drawn on the computer with mathematical precision and then individually kerned.

The free fonts on your computer you would have paid coin for when you bought it. If you bought stuff off an e-commerce store you would have indirectly paid for the branding. Bit by bit all would amount to way more than $6,007… Even if you're not directly buying it, you are paying for it indirectly.

And at $13 a font, that is a bloody steal than making your own font, even better that it's free.

Don't forget there would have been a tyopgrapher behind even your default Arial or Times New Roman font ;)

                  • +4

@bettina44: Yep, a good mate of mine creates his own fonts and is also a graphic designer, it takes many weeks to create a font for every letter in both upper and lower case, numbers, characters, regular & bold.
The average person has no idea how much work and time is put into creating a new font.

                    • +4

@SimAus007: Imagine doing it for the Asian character sets…

                      • @spaij: You would lose your marbles.

                      • @spaij: These are ridiculously expensive and limited for that reason, like a few hundred a pop and you don't have the variety as you do for the regular alphabet cause it takes so bloody long to hundred of individual characters…

Is also why a lot of Chinese website still use free default fonts and not fancy boutique typefaces.

                    • @SimAus007: I remember creating new 8x8 fonts back in the 80's for my Atari 800XL and that took a while too and that was only ASCII (and actually, even then a subset as I only did the characters I needed for games I wrote…)

                • @Bytelover: That's the combined price if someone was going to pay bit by bit over time while making money on the side from their sign business, I think

For the top type foundries like Adobe, Monotype etc those sorts of prices aren't unheard of - I remember Adobe Font Folio selling for up around $10,000, if not more, back in the 90's or early 2000s.

Linotype are currently selling a single font family (Futura) for $639.
          https://www.linotype.com/1559658/futura-complete-family-pack…

High end fonts have always been sold at jaw dropping prices.

But that said, I agree, I doubt anyone is paying $6k for these fonts

    • +12

I know of an organisation that recently paid more than that for Gill Sans MT. But then it became apparent that the font isn't accessible so they went back to using Arial.

    • +9

ahh damn, i just paid $6,007 for this last week!!

  • +108

so glad I waited for this to go on sale.

    • +8

      Haha

    • +3

How long have you been waiting?

      • +130

I've been waiting for ages. Almost spent the $6,007 last night but thought i'd give it another day just in case.

  • +7

Appreciate it, always good to add new fonts to the arsenal, theres only so much Bebas abd monserrat one can use.

    • +1

You can go far in life with those two.

    • +5

      You spelt Comic Sans wrong.

  • +2

Atleast a GB of free fonts; thanks OP.

  • +1

Aw, have to create an account to download them.

    • Now that I have a created an account with a disposable email address, is there anything else worth downloading?

      • +2

The site has a banner at the top that says you have 22+ hours to "Download everything for just $1", so go for it.

  • Cheers OP! :)

  • +52

Does it include any BOLD fonts?

    • +7

      What about any bald fonts?

    • +2

      This is truly Iconic

  • +1

Downloaded, not sure how or why I would use them though.

    • +2

      To do some Word Processing

    • There really isn't much point unless you're doing print work. If you put these into an email or document then the person who opens it will also have to have the font for it to render correctly.

      • +1

Unless you convert to an image file. Theres that.

  • +2

Can I Broden this deal? Asking for a friend.

  • +25

Nah man don't need them, I have comic sans. Cheers though!

    • +5

Holy crap I want to both upvote and downvote you =p

    • PAPYRUS IS THE BETTER COMIC

      • +2

Papyrus - oh that got used on every airy fairy product and tv show in the 2000's

        • +1

          Also…Avatar.

      • It haunts me.
        Hookah bars…Shakira merch…

  • +2

Some great fonts I probably will never use. Thanks!

  • +11

just before you go and install all 459 fonts… maybe read this

    • +5

Except that genius installed 67000 fonts

    • +3

Oh yes. I did that ages ago. Fastest way to wreck windows. You don't need 67k fonts though.try 400 or 500 and windows slows to a crawl

  • +9

Only links 1,2,3 have a bunch of fonts in them. The other links are one "bonus" font each, and you have to click through an ad each time. Don't bother.

    • Just right click and do as browser says below.

      • +1

Always follow the instructions to the letter.

  • Thought it said Free 459 Premium Foods… guess it must be dinner time lol

  • Thanks, bought 5. Gonna start a desktop publishing business.

  • +1

timing out, but I am on Qantas Airplane Wifi…

    • Hope you enjoyed the Canva ad

  • +8

Right click "download" open link in new tab to avoid pop up.

  • Not very font of them

  • Have no use but I'll download it anyway

  • +8

Any refunds if you paid $6,007 for these yesterday? Asking for a friend

  • +6

I hope all of them are Comic Sans MS

  • +6

If you miss out, I'll be selling them for $3k later in the week

  • +2

Are these actually useful? When you will publish you are better off with Web fonts.

  • +6

Only the first 3 downloads of the 12 contain fonts. The rest of the downloads are random photoshop brush strokes and stuff. Anyone have a suggestion for a fontbook now I have a bajillion fonts?

  • +2

How much extra time booting into Windows is there these days having another 459 fonts in your font library?

  • +2

These fonts seem to be mostly junk. It doesn't appear to be a replacement for TypeKit unfortunately.

    • +2

This. These are all trash-tier fonts. Wouldn't be surprised if most of them are normally available free elsewhere.

  • +7

Cool to have and will download. But if anyone wants decent fonts for free, check out Google Fonts. Tonnes of free, quality fonts and a good search tool.

    • Yep, Google Fonts is excellent for better quality fonts. The ones in this deal are generally low quality and not very refined (hence why they're selling individually for only a few dollars each).

  • I haven't had a chance to investigate yet, but do they have Arial?

    • +3

Unlikely. Arial is licensed by Microsoft.

  • +1

    HODL!

  • +3

Does anyone have a funny font story? My wife's PhD was in a font that isn't recognised on Apple so when it got professionally printed it came out all messed up. They actually bound it before even checking. The company admitted it was their error but I had to drive there a few times to get it sorted.

From memory, I believe the font in question was Garamond.

    • +6

Wouldn't be the first PhD that looked like gobbledygook, even with known font.

      • +1

I proof read it for the grammar. The contents made no sense to me 🤣

    • +2

For future if you embed the font into the document that wont happen. You can embed in word and pdf I think.

  • thanks. both 10

  • +1

Oh no I dropped $6007 on 459 fonts last week - now this! :(

    • +3

We (including you) wouldn't pay for these. We only download because of fomo and they are free. These are download and forget for most of us.

      • it's obviously just an email harvesting exercise for the company, hence the joke…

    • They might give you a refund if you ask nicely.

  • +4

    fontastic

  • Excellent, adding it to my great font collection I'll never use

  • +2

I doubt there are many that do video editing here but fonts are crucial for titles, scoff all you want but these are value for some.

  • All these free fonts…now we can write free kindles?

  • +1

So the first three parts have 462 fonts and then there is bonus crap….

    • Agree. Don't bother past the first three files..

  • Is there a way to add to my account for later but not download it?

  • +2

you might want something like FontBase to be able to view the fonts to find the ones worth using.

    • Below the download is a list of all the included fonts, and you can click on them to see samples of the typeface.
