Where are those orange overalls packed away?

The least McDonald's Corporation could give them is a free meal FFS

    • Probably know the meals are unhealthy and don't want our emergency workers get too fat lol

    • +3

They don’t really have to offer anything?
Maybe KFC and all the rest should offer at least something free then?

    • +3

      Ahh whataboutism lives on.
What is that you're giving for free to emergency workers?

    • No, the least they could give them is NOTHING.

  • Good job Maccas!

  • +4

At least throw in an Apple pie

  • Didn't the Police used to get food for free once upon a time?

    • No, its half price blue uniform discount that still exists today, they must be on duty and in uniform to get the discount.

      • +1

I understand the thoughts behind it, but this sucks for the officers.

There aren't too many places offering readily available fast food and toilets 24/7.

So likely most of the officers will still go there, they'll just be paying double the price out of their pockets.

        • Same goes for QLD…officers aren't supposed to accept discounts or freebies for (the bosses') fear that bias may be perceived.

You can always get a free small water from McDonalds, no purchase required.

I think this a poor effort from McDonalds, they should be offering a full meal.

  • +1

What a joke lmfao. Wouldn't even call this the bare minimum from a mega corporation racking in billions.

    • +6

Correct. As the bare minimum required is zero.

  • +3

I'm in two minds about this. Yes, they didn't need to do anything but they've clearly thought "we need to do something to show our appreciation" and come to the conclusion a medium drink is all that they deserve.

It's kind of the same thing as seeing someone lose their home and giving them a $2 coin then patting yourself on the back for it.

    • Yeah, very much the same thing…

  • +1

Honestly if you're just gonna give a medium, might as well give nothing, even a cheaper cheeseburger meal would barely cost them much extra.

  • A medium drink, 2 cents in syrup and 0.001 cents in water. Maybe you could upgrade it to a large and splurge on an extra sent in syrup.

  • +2

    Does this apply to doctors?

  • +3

In before "What about me?" and "Other places should do the same," and "That's not enough, they should give them…"

    Damn it! Too late.

A medium drink, what's this costing them, a few cents for the drink, and the majority of that it probably the labour costs.

Question, how to they know you have already been. I mean you could go breakfast lunch and dinner each day every day. If this was a free meal, it could get expensive.

Why don't they just donate a few million to the SES?

    • +4

What they're obligated to do is zero.
What 99.9% of other businesses are doing is zero.
It's this kind of shitty couch warrior shit that literally drives businesses away.

I've worked at huge corps and tried to get them to contribute something and been told more than once that generous offers just get thrown in your face from people offering nothing, but screaming you should offer more.

Interesting perspective from the other side.

Seems everyone's first thought was free publicity provided with a free drink, which seems kinda tight. That being said the McCafe drink is pretty good value.

But as you said 99.9% are doing nothing, and a free drink sure beats nothing.

I think these couch warrior types are a tough crowd. Can't bloody win!

  • +1

The maccas I go to is always free coffee 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • +2

    Don't they deserve a large?

  • What about frontline health workers ?

    • I feel like we’ve had more than our fair share of these over the last couple of years. I don’t really feel we’ve been affected by the flooding more than other professions. I would have thought road workers, garbage collectors and others not on that list would have been more effected.

  • Not complaining, just noticing…. This seems to be mid north coast and Brisbane only (based on the list). It can’t see some of the effected areas in northern NSW like Goonelabah, Tweed Heads, Ballina, Chinderah etc (Lismore is closed). Also no Gold Coast

EDIT: Ballina and Tweed still closed too.

cost of a med size drink to Macca's = about 23 cents …. at most

tight asses need to be more generous

  • RFS volunteers included?

  • I visited one of these stores listed above this morning and was advised that they were not participating in the offer :(
