Pioneer VSX-521 650W 5.1 Channel 3D AV Receiver Stereo $237 JB Hi-Fi Today Only

550

Just checked out the jb blu ray deal posted by melmac77.

Saw this unit is included in the sale tomorrow for $237 and thought it deserved a seperate bargain. It has recently been sold for $297 and now jb has put the price up to $378.
I'm fairly sure jb offers free shipping aus wide.

I picked it up about 2 weeks ago and it's pretty decent. (dont suppose anyone knows if jb will refund the price difference?)

  • Nice price I'd say.

  • Why doesn't this have more positives?

It's crazy cheap. Especially if you add the speakers for $62.

    • what speakers? I don't see them mentioned anywhere

        http://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-theatre/pioneer/650-watt-5-1-c…

That's the HT outfit that the link in this deal displays. It's $299.20.

        • I cant see it??

        • Compare the SKU of the $299 product in the main image link to the SKU in the link that Orange has provided viper…both look like 70527 to me! :)

        • Does anyone know anything about these speakers?

          (I mean quality wise)

        • I bought this today

          the sattelite speakers are

          Pioneer brand
          5X 100Watt 8 ohm

          the subwoofer isn't overly powerful
down facing 4 inch no watt label

but not proprietary so you could swap sub-woofer without hassle

  • What's better this or the VSX S300?

  • Bump up the price first then have a sale. Classic JB.

  • @jumpo:
You can return your current unit for whatever price you paid. Just say you're not happy with the system or make something up. You will need original packaging and all accessories though.
Then buy the reduced price one. Pretty sure they won't refund price difference.

Also RE shipping, they dont have free shippig on all items. Bought a Yamaha AV Receiver once, and it cost $18 to deliver. Pickup wasn't even an option. It was one of those Factory scoops they get from time to time.

    • It will be 3 weeks to tomorrow, is that too late too return it?

I could just say Pioneer told me to swap it. There useless customer support insisted my unit was broken (i fixed the problem myself about 10 minutes after)

      • +1

Its never too late, until you are refused !
How much did you pay ?
I would call a couple of stores just to check if they can refund the price differnce first (unlikely).
Otherwise, make up a story and return it.
Lot of shops have a 30-day price guarantee, in which if yo find a lower price elsewhere, they will refund the difference. This is JB vs JB.

I would be spewing if I buy something and a couple of weeks later, its gown down in price !!!!!!!!!!!

        • Otherwise, make up a story and return it.

+1. Intermittent fault, funny if they test it that it won't replicate for them! :o

Anyway, you spoke to Pioneer jumpo, they said return it for your choice of refund or exchange as per FT legislation. Tell JB if they ask that you spoke to 'I think it was John, no it might've been Chris…umm, I forget…it was Pioneer support anyway!' :)

        • $297 when it was "on sale"

It's a 2 hour round trip to get it there and back so i don't think I'll worry. Might just call up the store see what they say. And last time my arms went numb by the time I got it back to the car. I'm super weak. :P

The issue was a hdmi cable. It was working for my blu ray player but my xbox wouldnt show up after a week or so. The support guy said it definitely can no way be a hdmi cable fault it has to be the whole unit take it back right now and get it exchanged..

Got a new hdmi cable and it worked perfectly.

        • Think of it this way jumpo, drive an hour each way & you get a set of 5.1 speakers with your newly discounted amp for an extra $2 as Orange123 points out!

Mull that one over, what would a true OzBargainer do? :p

    • Rang them up and he called back and said pretty much too bad this is our super super sale and that 3 weeks is forever in retail time and that i should feel lucky that i paid $60 more for it..
      Lame

      • +1

This is the price of honesty dude!

You've got two hours jumpo, get your butt over there & return your 'defective' unit & grab yourself a discounted one and/or speakers as noted! ;)

        • +1

Haha but it's cold and raining and I think playing Fallout new vegas with pizza whilst it's raining outside is worth the $60 :P

        • +1

LOL, fair enough. Enjoy the game & pizza dude! :)

[edit] As noted by others, just order yourself one online with free delivery & return yours at your leisure…best of both worlds! :D

How long til Gerry Harvey starts blaming JB for failed world peace & whatnot too now! ;)

  • Brilliant, i called a store today and they told me it will be $348 tomorrow.

Cant find a manual online though…anybody got one in pdf?

  • I do hope someone jumps out and tell us there is a better one at a better price. I am always keen to have a receiver for some of my ps3 and Xbox games, but don't want to spend much money. Anyone can point out for me why this is a good unit(apart from the price)

    • I have the older model & I love it, so I can't see any pitfalls here at this price! :)

  • I bought a Samsung LED and found out a couple of weeks later they reduced the price, it was within a month and they gladly refunded me the difference (which was over $200), this was the Sunshine store in Vic… Pleasantly surprised by this..
Anyway, I believe there are some fair trading rules in regards to this…

    • Thanks racerm911 I'll give it a shot tomorrow and hope for the best!

JB super Saturday and Hardly Normal Super Weekend, what about The Good Guys?

I think we should group them together as one deal.

  • wtf ?

link no longer working, did they take it down cause online its $378 ??

  • Six left at Eastland, Ringwood. Purchased in store 9am today. JB computer system has it listed as $237 so all good.
    Model is VSX-521-K

  • Thanks for posting this ;)

I'm running an aventage rxa3010 but needed one for the folks to bring them up to speed with hdmi etc

Brother in law manager of JB hifi store in QLD said grab one quick as they are selling at below cost …

    Thanks for posting

    • Below cost?

Thats not going to be helping jb share price!

      • Below Store Cost. JB warehouse charging JB retail store. Rebates and funny money in all directions.

  • I just finished setting mine up. Seems pretty decent so far.

I got the $299 pack with the speakers included. The shop had a $590 price tag on it with a huge 20% off thing stuck under it. I showed him the catalogue price on my phone and he gave it to me for $299 though.

    • I think you did well dude, this is a stellar price for that pack…kinda makes me wish I had a need for one! :)

    • This was my exact experience too.

  • Bought one this AM on-line with paypal - free delivery, bargain.
Tried to price match at Dick Smith but they wouldn't - below cost. Their best price was $350.
JB HiFi has had this for $299 - didn't seem to matter at DSE. I guess JB has more purchasing power.
I wonder how long it will take to deliver?

Edit - just checked, still available on-line - free delivery

  • Been eyeing off the HTP-521 for ages, but I saw that the VSX-522 is due for release soon (probably why they are clearing stock). I was going to wait, but couldn't resist this deal. Cheapest price by roughly $90, VideoPro retailing at $391 and will be selling the HTP-522 for $599 when it releases in 1-2 months time. I have just finished setting it up and will road test with a 3D movie and surround sound later.

Now do I purchase a Pioneer DDJ-T1 to compliment? Currently $1077.60 with 20% off: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-home-audio/pro-dj/pioneer/…

DJ warehouse have this for $999 and a case would be another $250! Does anyone know what the $50 Beat Card is?

  • just ordered one :) hope it's good!

  • Picked one up today from Innaloo WA, the setup was listed @ $530 but scanned at $297

They had sold 3 today and had 6 left IIRC

  • Got one online with speakers pack. Thanks OPs.

  • +1

Makes me regret buying the Aventage 3010 :/

  • Ah. Ozbargain strikes again. Back to broke after spending another $700 today at JB's… Thanks OP.

  • Cheers, ordered the pack with speakers. Finally time to replace my really old Sony stereo, looking forward to my blu-rays with DTS and whatnot.

  • Cheers dude. Just got the speaker deal too.
The link if people can't see it.

  • Actually, I'll be taking mine back after purchasing one today (mainly due to HDMI) but it sounds shite compared to my orignal Yamaha RXV495 (12 years old) which powers a large set of Aaron speakers - just could not get the same bass drive plus the component hook-up is stupid - Yes I have accessories that stil use Component/Composite. My 55" Samsung (Series 7) does a better job of connecting so I will stick with the optical cable back to the Yamaha. Failing the return, I'll trade for a higher end again. Remember kiddies buy cheap buy twice!

    • Remember kiddies buy cheap buy twice!

No, it just sounds like you didn't buy what you needed this time around.

You've got a pretty idiosyncratic old setup bro, you need to put a bit more thought into what features you want from the replacement amp! ;)

    • Just check the crossover frequency and reduce from 100Hz to 40 or 60 depending on your speakers.

This is probably why the bass drive is lacking.

With many smaller speakers in use these days manufacturers seem to default to 100hz or above and therefore with bookshelf speakers often will lack the bass response.

Let us know how you go

    • +1

      Yea you're absolutely right!

      Read this on cnet review:
"By default, all low-frequency sounds below 100Hz are sent to the subwoofer, rather than the main speakers. That setting is too high, leaving the main speakers sounding thin. Lower the setting to 80Hz, however, and the unit delivers deep, non-localisable and controlled bass. Pioneer rates the power output of the AV receiver at 130W per channel, which seems slightly optimistic. But, while it's not a volume monster, it doesn't readily run out of puff either."

    • Refund granted…

  • Wow, just checked JB website and the kit is now $574. Almost double yesterday price. Glad I ordered it last night. Time to replace my aging 17yo amplifier. Thanks OP.

  • Nooooo missed out

This is what happens when you stop ozbargaining regularly :(

    Sigh

  • I bought 3 of these HTP-521 with the speakers $299

Do know why ? Now taking up room, make an offer !

    • Where you live?
$275 if you live gold coast (cuz thats a bit of a stretch :)
