All the holders may as well hold for the next gen now. Lol

      I mean if you're running a 2000 series, I'd definitely be waiting….

      • +2

I'm still running a 1080ti and it's holding on well

        • +2

I see your 1080ti and raise you a HODLing 980ti

          • +2

            @agro1942: I see your 980ti and raise you a 970m (in a laptop).

Was initially intending to build a new desktop in 2020… Oh well.

    • Go ahead And buy it after reading how fast next gen is. Lol

that's all bs, saying 30% more power then 3090 and no mention of power draw - this things will require 1000 w

        • +2

They always say that next gen will be this monster and it always turns out to be roughly the same on average every gen - Pascal was one exception.
They always do just what they need to and not a bit more!

          • @badonde: Ampere was powerful indeed. Not sure why you feel otherwise.

            • @John Doh: But it was roughly the same average increase gen on gen - that's my point.

          • @badonde: this gen was a good increase but you are right, i don't see anything major coming up, we just had next gen consoles, 30 xx is selling well and its plenty for any game these days, dont see what 30-40% increase will bring tbh.
there could be improvement to RT and DLSS on Nvidia side and I suspect a massive improvement to RT on AMD side

        • The Power draw of 800 Watts is only for 4090ti. For 4060 it's around 250 or something. Check greymon55 tweets.

The RRP is $1069 blah blah

      Blah blah HODL, very funny.

  • +1

At this stage you might as well HODL until the 4000 series released in Sept, unless you really need one right now.
Rumor has it the new RTX 4060 has the same RT power as the current 3090.

    • That would be great but what would it be priced at? 4k? 🤦‍♂️

      • +1

ETH Mining is moving off GPU in July or this year, so I don't see inflated price on the 4000 series, unless Nvidia inflate the price and set a Hight RRP.

        • like a 2080ti :)
          imagine buying that on release

  • Are any of you hodlers actually ever going to buy a gpu? Rumours with next gen are that they are very fast but very power hungry and and also very expensive.

So we will be waiting for the “more reasonably priced” models to be released, then the early adopter tax to disappear. Might be another year before that happens and then next gen would be around the corner again.

    Just curious.

    • +2

Yep, when the price is right. If we're still holding, then we probably have cards that are "okay" and are looking for a performance boost.

Put it this way - how would I justify $1500 on a video card to my wife?

    • +1

6080xt is a decent price right now, I dont think it will go down a lot more, - i wouldn't hold at $1200 no matter what next gen brings.
AMD and Nvidia now know how to short supply/inflate the market and achieve high prices
