Cheap Android phone that has a half decent speaker?

Hi all.
I need a new smart phone to act as a "White noise" device for my child.

We currently use an old Samsung S10 and just have a Spotify playlist song on repeat, however, I am now trading that phone in.

I am planning on buying a used phone off eBay to replace it.
I was going to replace it with a Samsung S8 but wondering if anyone else has any other recommendations on Android?
Perhaps a cheap and nasty new Android that will do the job well?

It will never be connected to a mobile network and doesn't need to have all the bells and whistles - just play music essentially.

Any cheap ass phone and a $19 Big W Bluetooth speaker will suffice.

Could you use a Google Nest Mini instead? That plays white noise e.g. Hey Google, play rain sounds, and Spotify

    • Thanks kerfuffle. I just read your thread and now my nest mini is playing rain sounds. How do I get it to stop?

      • Either use your phone or say 'Hey Google, stop'

        • That worked. You are a legend 😄

    • "Guinea pig music" is quite peaceful.

    • Needs WiFi though. We go away a fair bit and sometimes, their isn't WiFi.

        Hotspot from your phone?

  • Buy an actual white noise machine? Amazon has a few e.g. Lectrofan. Got one at home and it get used every night (I'm indifferent but wifey needs white noise to sleep and used to use a fan until I bought her the Lectrofan - even in winter)

I have a little cube speaker that plays MP3s stick it on repeat and you should be fine. The sound quality is excellent for the money.

It is something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-TF-SD-Mini-USB-Speaker-Music…

    • Just checked no repeat function. It will still work with a long enough MP3 or multiple tracks / copies on SD card

  • the cheap BT speaker (Sonic B) i purchased from woolies has a USB connector and SD card slot. You can play music tracks on it without it needing to be connected to a phone. There are lots of these on Amazon or eBay and they go by different brand names.

Just download some white noise tracks from somewhere or make your own with Audacity and throw them onto USB drive / SD. You can just make duplicate copies of the same file to make the white noise play longer. Or, you can make the tracks super long yourself by stitching them together with Audacity.

Will only cost you $20~30 and it'll sound better than a phone speaker.

  • just buy the machine that is fit for purpose and get a white noise machine.

This is like trying to buy a white noise machine to be a phone.
