    HODL

    • Better hope China doesn't get sanctioned..

  • +1

$800 is a fair price for this old card. HODL for the 4000 card.
Those who buy now will kicked themselves, I predict another $100-$200 price drop next week.

    • +4

no they won't, 3 stores sold out already. you cannot buy for $100-$200 cheaper if they sold out.

you can still buy ex-miners FHR 3080 on ebay for $2700.

      • +5

no one is buying them lol

        • -8

          you will, eventually…

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: No one is buying them, that's why the price keep on dropping.

      • +2

No one can predict the future, however the current going rate (as of yesterday) for an RTX 3060Ti is $738.
I.e. approximately half the cost of this RTX 3080.
RTX 3080 is not twice as powerful as the RTX 3060Ti…

        • +3

that's not how it goes.. higher models have smaller performance differences for larger differences in price. Just because something is twice as expensive doesn't mean it's performance is twice as good (rolls eyes).

          • @gizmomelb: Sure, I get it. But "Frames per dollar" charts are a thing. The RTX 3080 is about 19% faster than the RTX 3060Ti. When translated to prices, 19% more than the the current value of an RTX 3060 Ti (which as noted above is $738) is $878. Sure, there is some performance premium to be paid over and above that, but even still, I don't see how the current fair value of an RTX 3080 is greater than $1000 or so at this time…

@Gamer Dad Reviews: @Gamer Dad Reviews - don't go buying cars or look at modding your car to go faster.

Performance is whatever people want to spend. I have a mate who balks at the idea of $100 for a GPU - personally I game, I do some A.I. video upscaling and I convered and edit a LOT of video so $2000 for a GPU that was going to save me time rendering, as well as allow all options on max at 1440p@60Hz and could be partially claimed on tax was a no-brainer. Yes, if I'd waited 6 months it would have been cheaper, but I had the use of it during that time and I valued that more as I could afford the GPU after my previous tax return with no issues.

People can always hold for something cheaper - most of the time it means they're holding forever and don't get to enjoy whatever item is is they're holding for. Life and time is too short, if you can safely afford if - then do it. Ther fervent 'don't buy' comments on here are just stupid attention seeking imo

    • +4

      You will never pay $800.

Hold for 4000 cards that'll be much higher price and much harder to obtain?…. Yeah heard that great advice before.

    • 800 is the 3070 dream price

  • +4

sold out means new shipment at lower price so 100% next week will be lower. GPU's arnt going to go up any time soon

    • what's the winning lotto number next week?

      • +5

If there is no war between Taiwan and Mainland China in the near future, the GPU price will continue dropping. If not, the supply will get tight again.

        • +2

          Would probably be even worse

          • @Epiuse: Who knows mate. I kept watching the GPU news in China so can work out the price prediction on GPUs.

      • +2

You poor bastard for paying so much for your card before.

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Not at all jealous, as I'm $1100 richer than you for not buying :)

            • -1

@kml22: mods can we please get rid of this troll posting (profanity) knuckle?

            • @kml22: guess you'll be a $1,000,000 richer because you'll never buy a house either.

              • @gizmomelb: That's not very nice.

                • @kml22: @kml22 but true, according to your line of thinking. You just saved $1,000,000 you should be happy!

      • +1

there is no guessing in my reply, you only need to do a bit of searching to what miners are doing, what materials are in short supply/going up in cost and to a lesser extent what crypto is priced at

2 months I have been saying hold.

Only thing I am guessing is that 30 and 6000 series prices will bottom out around 2 months from now or mid this year but 30 series could keep dropping as I suspect they will make 30 and 40 series at the same time

        • -6

you all been hodling since Nov 2020. the jokes on the hodlers. LOLLL

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: Who cares if people are holding out in the hope of a better price, well aside from you?

You seem to appear in every thread about GPU pricing beating the, i bought early , it won't get any cheaper etc drum. Almost as though people aren't allowed to make their own decision and be happy with their approach.

Looking at prices falling over the past few weeks, I don't think it is unreasonable to predict that they will continue falling, if it doesn't that's fine it is a prediction and no different to the opinion you are putting forward.

And apologies you are the Op - but I don't believe that alters any of the above.

            • +2

@tothewheaty: I maintain the balance, HODLers also being abusive and aggressive towards those who bought early: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11884226/redir

at the end everyone can decide what they want to do with their money without being insulted on public forum.

              • @[Deactivated]: Sure I agree with your sentiment in regards to the comment you linked. Although 'buying early' this post was 5 hours ago - so anyone who buys has bought earlier than someone who has not.

However I think the important aspect is addressing comments from specific individuals - your 'balanced' view even in response to WT above, somewhat contradicts your point around everyone deciding and not being insulted.

I suppose I am merely saying constructive discussion is surely more important than just 'maintaining the balance'.

            • +1

@tothewheaty: LOL yea won't bother to reply to any of them, I'm just laughing at these monkeys every time they post. It's like trying to justify their life is a success or something, oh look I bought them early for cheap, you want a medal for it? hahha. Seems like just too many oztrollers. So avoiding them like a plague.

ps: Take a hint all of you….no body here to give a damn your mining story.

              • @madska: want some pokemon cards? or lollies?

        • Each to there own. The trend is down still, that might be more a consequence of supply and demand.

The assumptions that people are making about the 4000 series seem off if compared to other product markets. Across the board increases in RRP i.e. cars from impacts from inflation in resources and logistics.

I'm predicting a baseline increase in the rrp at each performance level. The benefit is that though your getting more performance , but the perception that a 1080 at a price point to a 4080 in comparable terms , and not factoring in inflation and the world circumstances seems questionable.

    To all the holders.

    On a warm summer's evening
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
    So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
    The boredom overtook us
    And he began to speak

You've got to know when to hold 'em
    Know when to fold 'em
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run
    You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
    When the dealin's done
You've got to know when to hold 'em (when to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em (when to fold 'em)
    Know when to walk away
    And know when to run
    You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
    When the dealin's done

The EVGA FTW3 was not $1139 , that was evga entry level for $1139.
Going by memory the EVGA FTW3 was around $1239 as i got the EVGA FTW3 ULTRA for $1259 and i think it was around $20 more

  • Glad I bought my Zotac 3070 at launch for $950
Can't believe GPUs are still so expensive.

  • +2

Such a poor price. 1080ti in 2016 was so much better than 3080 in 2022. And lol @ 10GB ram

    • -4

As if you're using half of the ram lol, its just minecraft ur playing.

      • You'd be surprised you can already fill 8GB @ 1080p on some games, and it's a 4k card. My RTX 970 already fills 4GB on an unreal 4 engine game. I think this RTX 3080 will become vram bottlenecked just as my RTX 970 does at 3.5GB. History to repeat in a few years.

        • -1

No this is simply not true. 10GB VRAM is more than enough to game @ 4K, I could game on my 980Ti @ 4K with 6 GB VRAM.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: Depends on the game. Typically drivers/frameworks/games will manage how many textures they can stick in memory. If you have more vram, it'll use more vram. Generally if you're forcing the system to swap in/out textures as needed, you're going to take some level of performance hit for it.

            • @incipient: Yes but 10GB VRAM is more than sufficient enough for today's games, very few would exceed this in 4K.
I could make GTA V use 22 GB VRAM back in the day, does not mean that it was efficient in doing so.
