  • Thanks. Got another pair.

I'm tempted to buy these and then never buy shoes again for ten years.

    • It's probably better to have two different pairs on rotation (assuming daily wear) to preserve the life of them to 10 years. If you don't let the moisture escape they will start to deteriorate from the inside out, so use shoe trees + have maybe 1 day time for them between wears.

      • Pretty sure it was a reference to a popular Terry Pratchett quote. Paraphrasing "A man who can afford a pair of $50 boots will last 10 years, a man who can only afford a $10 pair of boots will need to replace them every year and be worse off after 10 years"

        • $50 boots these days will fall apart before you can even bring them home :(

DFO RM store in Homebush has these for $299 at the moment.

    • +3

just called them up to confirm. $349 for black and chestnut, $299 for seasonal colours.

      • Nice! Do they sell wider sizes like H width there or is it G only?

And how's stock level normally there?

        • In the past they've only carried the Blinman (not made in Australia, 2 piece leather instead of the one piece). Is it definitely the craftsman they have there ?

          • @thisisadu: I haven't been so I am not sure, but the above posters said they called? So should be right?

      • -1

If anyone heads over to DFO RM, could they snap me a photo of the price for Comfort Craftsman in Chestnut? I'd like to use my credit card's price protection insurance

      • Nice, I wanted a black pair. Any wide widths there available?

    • is the quality different through from normal vs DFO store?

      • +2

Typically, the shoes sold at outlets don’t have the same level of quality, or didn’t meet their QC requirements (blemishes on the leather, other minor imperfections) which is why they won’t sell these at full RRP.

You can usually tell they are outlet shoes because they’ll have a tiny hole punched out at the top of the shoe (next to top of elastic).

Wow, thanks for that info. Rather pay the 476 for A grade than 349 for B grade.

Whats everyones thoughts on modern RMW boots? I've been hearing mixed reviews from friends who wear them and dunno what to think.

Some have said that the quality is ok but nowhere near as good and as long lasting as what it used to be like 10-20 years ago. Basically they are using their old reputation to sell their current lines which are not the same quality.

Others say they are worth every penny and never had any issues wit their new stuff.

    Interested to hear others experiences?

  • Do these stretch in width? How much? A few months ago, I tried, regular (G) felt a little tight, and wide fit (H) felt too loose.

    • Then you need a G. They'll open up over about a month of wearing. The H will never get tighter. It's meant to be quite snug when you first buy them.

  • Bought! Thanks OP. I did get sized for these at a RM Williams store a few months ago but couldn't pull the trigger on the $595 price at the time. After sizing, I am a full size down from what I thought I'd be - I'm a 11.5 normally, but was a 10.5 in RMWs. Buy them a little snug but not so much that they hurt, they'll loosen a bit but they are pre-stretched so it's not like, say, Doc Martens which stretch a LOT.

If you can, get sized at a real RMW shopfront so you'll know exactly what you need for future sales.

how's the sizing for these? never worn a pair of RM Williams yet but with offices opening up for employees to come back I feel like I should probably refresh my work attire. I measured my foot length 26.5cm (toe to heel) and width 26cm (tape around whole foot joint).

    • -1

should have noted that was barefoot. with socks it was like 27.43cm length, 26.92cm width

  • Same price at David Jones - they’ve got more sizes

  • How is the Comfort Craftsman conpared to the Classic Craftsman? I see they are the same price at David Jones but most sizes sold out for the classic.

Any advantages to the leather sole of the classic compared to the comfort?

    • +1

It looks dressier, probably not as suitable for work (slippier/less durable/less comfortable).

      • I read there's a bigger leather upper on the comfort to make it fit. The feel of classic in leather insole and outsole might make it feel more like a normal dress shoe. I think some people prefer the leather insole but most prefer the comfort insole.

Haha the leather sole does look nice. Have a pair of comfort and wanted to try classic but none left in wide sizes in black.

I really wish Allington's still had my size right before they couldn't sell them online anymore. Now extra $50 compared to end of last year. Envy those who can get normal widths from more places!
