Kokoon Nightbuds $244 ($195.20 via Self-Referral, Usually $349.99) Delivered @ Kokoon

25/03 UPDATE: New sale is 30% off instead of 20% off, so with the extra 20% off coupon, it's down to $195.20.

Bit of a niche deal for an attractive price on what is still a very expensive product, but hear me out. Currently $279 on sale, can get it down to $223.20 with a self-generated 20% off Refer-A-Friend coupon code (will explain down the bottom of the post).

I suffer from a bit of tinnitus as well as being somewhat sensitive to external noise (traffic, snoring, animals etc), so decided it was worth the investment for something that would help get me to sleep and stay asleep. For a side sleeper, the only thing that works is something very small that doesn't protrude out, or else it's very uncomfortable.

Based on popular reviews, I got the Bose Sleepbuds II, which hover around the $300 mark, but they just didn't work for me at all. They don't stay in my ear properly overnight no matter which size earbud I put in, so I end up waking up with them fallen out. And I found the fact that you can't play your own audio quite limiting. Apart from that, great product, and I can see why a lot of people like it.

Since I have returned the Bose, I've been on the hunt for a replacement, and settled on the Kokoon Nightbuds. They have a wire between the buds that hook around your ear which should prevent them falling out during the night, with the battery/BlueTooth receiver sitting behind your head - all reviews say this is surprisingly extremely comfortable.

Due to this design, the actual in-ear component is even smaller than the Bose, fits in a tracker that measures your heart rate in the ear to measure sleep quality, and allows you to play your own sounds or their provided sounds (automatically swapping over to a white noise when it detects you're asleep). So, with a 30 day money back guarantee, I'm giving them a go!

For an extra 20% off to bring it down to $229, I figured out their Refer-A-Friend is set up in a way where you can simply use 2 different emails to give yourself a 20% off coupon, and it's as simple as that. Just visit this page and put in your details, and it'll generate a link that you can follow to sign up again and obtain a coupon code to use straight away. The Refer-A-Friend seemingly seems to swap between $50 off and 20% off, and not really sure when/why, but it's about $6 more if you get a $50 off coupon instead.

Cheers!

Wow, great write-up! Thanks so much for the effort to put together the detail!

I have issues sleeping, and I’m grateful for you taking the time. I also didn’t like that the Bose buds don’t let you use your own sound, and then forgot about the whole idea.

I’ll give these a try. Cheers!

EDIT: Paid $391.20 for two pairs (me and my partner). So that works out to $195.60 per pair. If you have a friend or someone you trust, you could ‘pair up’ and get a couples package of two units at once.

Also, make sure to use the coupon before paying. There was a little dropdown option to insert a coupon code, but it was hard for me to find. Wasn’t a visible field by default.

  • I have just ordered a pair. Thanks for posting

  • Am getting a sorry there's a delay when trying to get the referral code. Anyone else?

    • Yep, I am also getting that message
Sorry, there's a delay processing your reward.
      We'll contact you by email.

      No email contact or code

    • It's got to do with using the same/similar name or email (like just putting a full stop in your gmail address) I think, like a feedback loop - I had the same then used a completely different email and surname and it then worked.

      • I've tried that. Multiple emails and names. Still won't work. I'm wondering if it's a Web address thing?

  • Nice writeup. Definitely tempted

Introducing things into your ear canal on a regular basis, like this, will ramp up production of ear wax. Eventually (won't take that long) you will need to have your ears syringed out several times, on several occasions, to get your hearing back.

Or you can use ear wax softener / ear cleaner solutions on a pretty regular schedule in order to prevent the above from occurring.

Can't say I would recommend anything like this for regular bedtime usage.

That's not true. I've been using earplugs for about 8-10 years every night, never had any problems with hearing/ ramped up wax production.

      • -2

That would be an anomaly at best.

Just google 'risks of wearing ear plugs'. Ear plugs/headphone ear plugs, same principle applies.

        • +2

I can also just Google risks of drinking coffee, or milk, or cola, or using sugar replacements, or shampoo, or electric toothbrush, or driving. There are risks everywhere. Yet I didn't have any problems with earplugs during the night, or/and headphones during the day. Using them every day and every night.

@jellical: You can be the exception. I would not say your experience is typical.

            • @Oofy Doofy: Based on google search?

              • -1

@jellical: Based on you being an exception. Google is just a tool. The information is out there in full view. Decide on your own, for yourself.

    • Even if you're right, so what? You clearly have no concept of the trouble tinnitus sufferers face with sleeping. Your opinion might be valid but seems unhelpful in this instance.

      • -2

How would you know if I had no understanding of tinnitus?

    • He's not wrong…

But you'd have to weigh it up, and to be a good night sleep trumps earwax buildup.

If you're of asian descent and have the flaky earwax its probably less of a concern compared to european descendants who have the oily type.

  • This has been a great changer for me!

I listen to podcasts / audio books to fall asleep and it stops within a few minutes of me falling asleep. Then it has option for grey noise once fall asleep

    Highly recommend .

Also have Bose Sleepbuds but they only play pre-installed noise - not your own audio

    • +1

Do they turn off rather than white noise?

    • How do you find side sleeping with them?

      • No issues for me. And I am reasonably fussy- struggled using AirPods and these are more comfortable that then Bose Sleepbuds. Only product I’ve used that was more comfortable for side sleeping was SleepPhones… but headband annoys me across forehead (and doesn’t have audio shutoff when fall asleep)

  • I currently have sleepphones - which are pretty good, but not great for sleeping on my back. Anyone got these - how are they for comfort? Earbuds and side sleeping seems like it would be problematic?

    • I have wireless charging Version of the sleep phones also (which I used whilst wearing the Bose Sleepbuds)

The Kokoon Nightbuds have been a complete replacement for both

Very comfy for laying on side and back in my experience

  • If anyone was wondering about some cheaper alternatives for side-sleepers and don't mind wires go look up Moondrop SSR's, or SSP's (they go for around 60aud depending on where and when you get them) which is the same housing just a slightly different tuning but just for sleeping I don't think you need to care either which way.

  • I use AirPod Gen 1 to fall asleep to a classical music playlist. They stay on long enough for me to fall asleep and most mornings they’re still in my ears. Have found them comfortable enough for side and back sleeping. Dropping in this comment in case it helps anyone who has not had success with other ear buds.

  • If we use the 30 day guarantee, who pays for the return shipping? And where do we send it to? Australian address or international?

    • +1

I returned their first product (the headphones) in 2020 and they paid for the shipping label. Refund within 2 weeks

For record , much happier with their latest product (nightbuds)

      • Did they provide you with a UPS return label?

Because they provided me with a UPS return label but am unsure where to drop the pracel.

  • An extra 10% off with their new sale makes it even cheaper. Deal updated.
