Is this spam or am I just old?

      Spam.

Mr Beast is kinda a kids channel. It's like asking kids if they have ever heard of Gardening Australia or Harper's Bazaar and then being incredulous about their answer.

        Different target audiences.

      • +2

Are ten year olds allowed to join OzB? Maybe someone should report this account. I have heard of it but only because my friend's kids are 9 and 11.

        • +1

I’m 22 years old and still watch Mr Beast.

  • +25

    Who cares, FFS.

    • ^ OP definitely triggered discord comments here. :)

  • +8

Never heard of him. Then again I am someone who prefers to play games rather than watch other people play games.

      • +7

It's certainly a shame his clickbait crap works and is lapped up by kids. Sure there's been some great causes but look what it's done to society in general…

      • +4

He spent $4 million dollars recreating squid game in real life

How many people did he kill and how was he not charged and now in gaol? $4mil isn't that much to cover up something like that.

        • He didn't kill them just shot paintball etc or made them do the same challenges watch the video

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: Not a very good recreation then. Sounds like he got ripped off.

            • @apsilon: You might be out of touch with culture, but don't make it super obvious. Watching youtubers is a generational thing. Mrbeast makes millions of dollars monthly and operates a highly entrepreneurial business with his target audience. How many million did you make last month?

              • +2

@lew380: I watch a tonne of Youtube content and know who he is but his videos are definitely not my thing. Clearly they are exactly what a lot of kids and simpler viewers want from their entertainment and good luck to them.

My 8 year old son likes Mr beast, are you 8?

    • +4

      OP acts like he's 8.

      • +3

Yep, I didn't realise who it was until after I posted.

  • He just appeared on Rogan as his kid was watching his videos, but it was more a chat on how his businees mind works

This name change should work out just as well as Pam's did

Mrbeast is just a smart guy, who games the YouTube algorithm, and makes videos for children and people with sub 100 IQ, which makes him a lot of money.

Edit - oh, it's levity, Mr beast combined with obscure weird card game now makes sense.

Smart guy but can we get the him a bloody razor? Sick of looking at that gross pube beard every time I switch on my Nvidia Shield.

I assume it's part of the thumbnail schtick, beard and soy face.

I understand all of those words, but neither of those sentences :)

Hey, I don't care for Gwent. But I'm 29 and like Mr. Beast. Just wanted to say how stupid it is everyone calling his content for children, calling you 8, and just acting in general like jerks. Don't ever feel bad for liking the things you like. Sorry this OzB experience has been a bad one.

I always watch Mr Beast at uni. My friends make fun of me when I minimise the window. They also watch Mr Beast lol. I prefer Morgz more than Mr Beast.

        I prefer Morgz

Thanks lockdude they are just being mean

    • Genuine question, what is it you like about his videos?

      • +1

Happy to answer :) I don't follow him religiously, but whenever something of his has popped up I've enjoyed it. I've seen his squid game simulation. the one where he reduced a circle in the ground until one person remained. The one where they gave a guy lots of money for a small scratch on his car. The one where he asks someone to help him move furniture into a house - then gives them a house. I've also seen the one where he sells some houses for $1 each. I believe he does other stuff, but I've never watched it.

From the videos I've seen, it's just nice watching people get a huge reward. He's not trying to fix some large social issue. He's not whining about others. It's just pure entertainment, where some people (often multiple) benefit. And it's fun to imagine what it'd be like if you were one of the people in the video.

I don't think it's more complicated than that.

More broadly though, I don't think we need people on Ozbargain policing what should and shouldn't be enjoyed. Not saying you did that in this instance. However, others have. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean others shouldn't like it.

OP simply asked do you think Mr Beast playing Gwent will help increase its popularity? They didn't ask everyone whether or not they approve of their tastes.

        • Fair enough, each to their own. I suppose I hate all those things, mrbeast, sssniperwolf etc, due to them being designed solely to regurgitate basically the same thing over and over, as that's what tweens/teens etc will watch. It's content with the sole purpose of getting views, the YouTube version of blatant consumerism. The truly terrible thumbnails and clickbait titles are also annoying.

OP simply asked do you think Mr Beast playing Gwent will help increase its popularity? They didn't ask everyone whether or not they approve of their tastes.

While true, if you have seen any of levitys previous posts, you will see why people react in the way they do.

          • @brendanm: There's a lot of content on YouTube I hate. But I respect that people like them. What I'll usually only call out is people who are intentionally harmful or deceptive. I see some of Mr. Beast's stuff as modern internet versions of gameshows. Except I don't have to sit through Andrew O'Keefe asking people if they're certain about a briefcase or not. As far as I'm aware he's not doing anything harmful. He's making money, and giving stuff away. It's not a new formula, but it is a new medium for it.

I have not seen the previous posts btw, I don't know if it's a 'Hello Pam' sort of deal - but on face value, it just felt like everyone here was just being far too pessimistic about someone showing enthusiasm for two things they really enjoyed - Gwent and Mr Beast. I think that's just how the internet is - but in a time and age where so many people are struggling with isolation, depression, and a huge compulsion to be 'just like everyone else' - I usually like to take a moment to encourage non-harmful individualism. This thread wasn't a discussion about why people didn't like Mr Beast - it was taken as an opportunity to put the OP down for expressing enthusiasm. That I take issue with.

Don't care much for YouTuber celebrities but I enjoyed Gwent in the last Witcher 3 playthrough. Am considering Gwent the Game as well.

  • It perplexes me how these "Youtube celebrities" and "Influencers" have so many people interested in following them. I am starting to realise their main demographic is 8-14 year old kids who cannot entertain themselves. It is scary the number of children that will be impacted by this and what that means for our society in the future. Play any online game and the number of horrible and disrespectful kids on there who are only interested in themselves and spew constant hate is overwhelming. /end old man rant
