Wooden Dish Stand (Also Use as Laptop/Tablet/Phone Stand) $3.10 Each @ DAISO

430

I bought a few of these dish stands from Daiso and use them as laptop, phone and iPads stand for saving up some desk space.

It is made of wood with very simple and sturdy design. There are some other metal ones, but this wooden one seems not hurting the electronics outside coating. It holds my iPad, a bulky Windows laptop, and 2 MacBooks together nicely :-)

Those looks like it could be used for test tubes as well

As porous wood they go a bit manky soon enough.

      • Gotta coat it with varnish perhaps?

        • They're allright for non-drying-stand purposes, but I'm not going and customising parts like that when outright better options are comparably cheap.

If you're into vinyl, they also work well for displaying your "now playing" record.

    • Can't find this on their website…

Many Daiso stores have these, you may check your local stores.

  • Reminds me of the old IKEA napkin holder trick

  • I thought daiso is 3.80 per item?

    • +3

Daiso changed pricing on many items, mine cost me $3.10 today.

    • +1

It was $2.80 for a long time. They put it up 30c

It's ok inflation is only 3.5% the RBA told me so

      • The RBA and ABS deliberately under-measure inflation.

In the US Daiso is a $1 store and Japan Y100

Oh mate I was being sarcastic, they're lying pricks

  • +8

Nope, those are junks. The surfaces were not processed properly and thus easily grow moulds just after a couple of use, especially in summer.

    • +3

Moulds? I have three of these for holding my tablets and laptops, neither has moulds after years. You probably used it for holding wet dishes which I don't really suggest.

        But it's a dish stand…

Which is not the major purpose I posted this deal XD

+1, had two, threw them out in weeks.

      • Erhm, you all do realise these are plate display stands, right? Not drying racks 😂

            @[Deactivated]: Touchy, ey 😇

The fact that you're even arguing adulthood tells me you're under 30. Knowing when not to take things personally from people you don't even know is a better indicator of your maturity than whether you use emojis or not.

Anyway, definitely not drying racks. Not sure what Daiso was thinking.

            • +1

@Talix: Mate, your emoji was clearly meant to mock and therefore make the dude feel bad and wasn't necessary for a fairly innocuous remark.

              • @tonka: @tonka: Point taken, I can see how that could have been understood as offensive. @Obsidiate: Please excuse my comment.

I didn't mean to upset anyone. I was simply a bit bemused how so many, not just @Obsidiate, was made to believe that they were drying racks and attempted to use them as such. I completely agree that they would be unsuitable and could mold easily.

In Denmark these types of racks (and other rack configurations) are used by almost every household to display crockery and is used exclusively as such. We're a bit pompous like that, showing off expensive porcelain…

                • -1

@Talix: Your apology is not accepted, you were wilfully trying to be offensive and you're only backing down because you've been called on it twice. The first time, you doubled down on being a dick.

                  Be a better person.

                • @Talix: In Oz, if you're displaying anything, you're showing off the square footage of the home you spent millions on.

                  • +1

@tonka: Your comment is outrageous. Australians are firmly wedded to the metric system.

                    • +1

@kipps: I’ve got a foot in each camp; given we went from Imperial measures to metric part way through my schooling. (Pun intended)

The maths is better with metric but the sight estimates are better with Imperial measures. Given the evolution of a lot of Imperial measures this isn’t surprising,

                    • @kipps: Is there is a word for footage in metric? But I do apologize anyway.

    • I saw the IKEA one before, but still prefer the DAISO one.

  • I have a bunch of these. They work great as dish stands. Not just round dishes. Also square dishes, rectangular dishes. All the dishes. They're very versatile.

    • +1

So they work great…. for their intended purpose? Lol

I think it's for storing the items when not in use

I got this one to use for holding down my sous vide packets. If people were worried about mould this might be consideration.

    • I got a few of these to hold laptops/tablets at work about 8 years ago and they're still going strong.

  • +4

Repurposing an item isn't exactly a "hack" and that's probably a good thing because most deals that use [Hack] are about getting less for less

  • Using Ikea one. suggest to put some rubber tips on the top of the spaces as well as the bottom of the rack to protect ur laptop and avoid slippery.
