Hi OP, have you purchased from these guys and if so, how long did postage take?

  • I ordered today, estimated delivery Tue 5 Apr - Fri 8 Apr.

  • Has anyone used this product before?

    • +1

      well bought anyway 100x, $35.xx

      Just for a back up.

I have enough of AMD stock.

  • Just bought 100x one thanks

  • +1

Does anyone know if these are the good quality ones or the ones that smell like ass when you wear them the first time ?

  • +1

You're unlikely to get a good seal or long-term comfort from ear loop masks. Masks like these should have straps that go around the back of your head, rather than ear loops. You can however get loop extenders that will attach to the ear loops and go around the back of your head, potentially solving this issue.

    • +1

Yeah I've opted out of K/N95 masks with ear loops, the plain surgical masks give me enough gip as it is. Head strap N95's all the way.

      • Yep. You don't see hospital workers in ear loop KN95/N95/P2 masks.

It says "eBay Fastway Road Express" for delivery. So is this by Fastway/Aramex? Noooooooooooooooooooo! They never deliver! They'll card you and claim you're not at home. Then they dump the package at a faraway collection point that is not in your suburb. You'll have a terrible time dealing with Fastway.

    • +5

Considered lucky if received card, i think mostly just drop a collection point straight away.

    • +3

Been 4 weeks and still waiting in Perth for delivery from NSW. They are a joke

    • +3

"Couldn’t deliver at your place" mate I’ve got a 24/7 reception at my building

  • +1

    100 is OOS now.

@Op. Can u add some more?

    • +1

The op isn't a store rep

Looks fake*. Lacks the markings that are required on KN95 respirators - see for example https://www.safework.nsw.gov.au/safety-alerts/safety-alerts/…

And no chance these can be genuine N95 with the use of earloops. Highly doubt they'd be KF94 either. If you want fake KN95s you can get them cheaper than this. I know because I've done it before learning that the majority of so called KN95s on eBay are fakes.

*Fake as in not actually certified KN95. Could well provide a decent level of protection, maybe even exceeding 95% filtration efficiency. But you don't/can't know for sure cos you're just taking the seller's word for it.

    • Oh :(

I work in health and have had some like this with only the N95 marking on them, but made in Australia on box, so atleast know there legit.
Detmold ones have a bunch of legal stuff written on them.

      • +2

but made in Australia on box, so atleast know there legit

Maybe they aren't made in Australia either and the box was lying

    • Where do you can find cheaper ones? I bought these earlier today, they are $0.3 each. These fake KN95 (what you said) are $0.36 each if you buy 100. I had a $5 voucher, so made them the same price. I am sure the 5 layers provides better protection than 3 layers and the quality looks better too.

      • +1

The Kmart ones are surgical-style face masks which are ok for protecting against direct droplets but not so much against airborne particles due to the loose fitting nature of these masks and the multiple gaps when you wear one. Respirators are supposed to form an airtight seal around your nose and mouth / force the air you breathe in and out to be done fully through the respirator itself - when you hear about fit testing (eg in hospital environments) this is about finding the right respirator for your face to ensure no leakage. For me I just want something that fits better / tighter than a surgical mask but not go hospital grade level. I think either you fork out the money for a proper N95/KN95 (typically minimum $2-3+ each), or if you're not going to bother getting genuine then get the cheapest good quality looking fake you can find as it'll probably still be better than a cloth one or the surgical masks.

I bought my KN95s from this listing https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175087840881 - 40c each for a 50pk and I got them at 32c for a 100pk (out of stock now). I did cut up a few (after wearing) to confirm the presence of multiple layers, and also tested their ability to hold water without leaking. The straps seemed decent at first but after I got through a few some of the subsequent ones broke really easily (I wasn't even trying).

Saw these mentioned in another post: https://sydneytools.com.au/product/raptor-9015-20pack-beneha… seems genuine and decent priced at about $1 each before shipping, and for headband ones too (will give you a better fit).

        • That was me, but the correct link is this one https://sydneytools.com.au/product/benehal-8225-20pack-beneh…

          • @brendan0: Link is correct; I meant to link the 9015 KN95s as this post/thread is mainly about KN95s, and even though the 8225 N95 is cheaper (and arguably a superior product) it is also currently out of stock / unavailable, so a moot point :)

            • @quop: You can still get them in person at select stores in melb and syd. The N95 are headbands, the KN95 version above are earloops. From the photos it appears it might come with a earsaver so you can clip the earloops around the back.

Agree looks hella sus. The smartest people on N95s tell people to avoid Ebay like the plague. Full of substandard KN95s, fake KF94s.
      https://twitter.com/masknerd/status/1418270267755966469

  • Surprised people didn't stock up when Bunnings were flogging their KN95s for 40c not too long ago which is cheaper and probably less risky of being some dodgy fake. (Without needing to buy 100 either)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/675311

    • Yeah, but no longer that price anywhere….

    • We did and we're running out fast.

They're good and the metal on the nose bridge is solid.

Only issue is where the straps are glued down - Broke 2 by overpulling.

  • +1

    ears wearing 🙄

  • yeah I might top up at some point don't have to wear a mask but I still do.

  • The kn95 I brought last year 500 for $99.99

    Was cheaper but initially stank

Most of these ebay ones stink

Regards to real or not just cut one open look for yourself. Also test it out to see if you can blow air out.

    • Regards to real or not just cut one open look for yourself. Also test it out to see if you can blow air out.

Neither of those things will test if it is a real KN95

      • this is true

        it's more for self assurance

I doubt most people can tell between real and fake on these chin diapers

  • +2

    Buyer be aware!!!

This is a dust mask.. KN95!!!.. NOT N95 surgical mark!!!

This mask will NOT protect you from COVID!!

False advertising with misleading heading .. see the print on the mask picture it clearly says KN95

    • Did you know that in the beginning we could use scarves as face masks by the law.

        • +2

No mask can 100% prevent you from getting COVID. Surely you know that by now. It is all about reducing the likelihood.

Are you saying a 3 ply surgical mask offers more protection than a dust mask just because it is a "surgical" mask?

The eBay listing and OzBargain deal description even says it is a dust mask. There is no mention about preventing COVID so I have no idea why you are negging this deal. I am after a dust mask for the garage so it is an upvote for me.

          • +2

@cute as duck: I visited the eBay AD thinking it's a mask to protect against COVID.. (I'm not after dust mask)… .. eBay AD title it clearly false advertise it as "Surgical Mask".. I'm sure majority will buy is thinking it's COVID mask.. due to misleading/false advertising

    • Do you think these would provide better protection than the normal blue masks?

      • yes..as long as they fit properly

        • Thanks just feels like a lot of unnecessary hate from Dave347

        • Which really is not going to happen. KN95 masks are not required to pass a ft test, meaning the KN95 standard is related to the material the mask is made from and not the actual mask.

If the mask doesn't fit and seal correctly then air will take the path of least resistance so it will go through the gaps between your face and mask, not through the mask. That means the air is not filtered.

However, surgical masks are mainly there to catch particles from the wearer (not form others) so in that regard a poor fitting KN95 mask should be about as good a surgical mask as it will capture most particles you exhale.

    • +1

      This is a dust mask..

So is an N95 mask. They offer excellent protection from dust and other airborne particles.
N95 is a mostly an industrial mask where people want to filter form dust

      KN95!!!.. NOT N95 surgical mark!!!

Both KN95 and N95 can filter to the same level and can potentially offer the same protection.
Neither are a surgical mask. This is a surgical mask
      https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/102313/softmed-surgi…

This mask will NOT protect you from COVID!!

Yes it will if it is a real KN95 mask, fits you correctly and makes a good seal.
Just like an N95 or P2 etc.

As you like N95 masks so much you must have been fit tested as required under AS 1715: 2009 so it is odd that you are looking for deals on any N95 mask type and not the type that you have been fit tested with.

  • Poor man's eBay nowdays this place

  • +3

Ebay feedback is 97% - a number of the positive votes include complaints on delayed shipping and cheap, thin masks. Some also suggest the seller isn't in Australia, but it's hard to work out if this is because of poor language skills from the seller, or postal marks from overseas. Either way, I wouldn't risk it.

    • No manufacturer info
    • No lab reports
    • No idea of supply chain from manufacturer to this ebay reseller
    • Almost certainly made in China, yet no information provided on country of manufacture
    • Profilic use of the Australian flag to mislead people into thinking it is Australian made

Also China made KN95s are known to have substantial proportion of substandard masks https://respfit.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/P2-Respira…

As reported by the Health and Safety Executive in the UK, a substantial number of face masks, claiming to be of KN95 standards provide inadequate respiratory protection and have been shown to potentially be inferior quality products. Further, KN95 labelled devices have in some cases been accompanied by fake or fraudulent paperwork.
KN95 is a performance rating under the Chinese standard GB2626, the requirements of which are broadly the same as the European standard EN149:2001+A1:2009 for FFP2 respiratory protection. However, there is no independent certification or assurance of their quality, and products manufactured to KN95 rating are declared as compliant by the manufacturer. Compliance with GB2626:2006 is achieved by passing the required performance and marking tests on supplied product samples. There is no assessment of the existing or ongoing quality management system of the manufacturer as part of this process. There can, therefore, be discrepancies in quality between batches if the manufacturer does not have an established quality system. China does not maintain a list of products that are certified to KN95.
Buyers should be aware that unlike P2, N95 or FFP2 respirators, most KN95 respirators are manufactured with ear loops rather than headband straps. NIOSH state caution should be used when purchasing a respirator with ear loops as the head harness, as preliminary assessments have indicated that it is difficult to achieve an adequate fit when wearing respirators with earloop designs. NIOSH has strongly recommended against purchasing a respirator with ear loops without conducting a fit test with multiple people (with varied facial structures). This is a critical issue, because even if all the product testing and documentation are found to be genuine, respirators that do not effectively fit, do not effectively protect the wearer. NIOSH has also performed testing on a range of KN95 respirators from many sources with respect to filtration efficiency and found significant failures for many models.
Feedback from industry has also highlighted that the vertical fold down the front of this style of mask can also create a gap at the bottom of the chin of the wearer. These design elements have been shown to affect the stability and face fit performance of the product resulting in difficulty in the wearer to pass a respirator fit test. If the wearer cannot pass a fit test, the product will not offer the protection that it is designed to achieve.
In summary, the critical issues associated with KN95 respirators include their actual filtration efficiency, inconsistent quality, and poor effective face fit performance across a range of individuals. The ability to assess these is a difficult problem for the prospective purchaser.
Buyers should beware of products being sold as KN95 respirators that claim to meet the standards of other countries. Buyers should check that the product meets those standards through following some of the simple steps outlined in the previous sections.
