Is Agoda Safe for Making Hotels Bookings

Hi everyone,
I was looking for some accomodation in surfers paradise QLD and found some good and resonable accomodation through Agoda website and the same accomodation was $120 expensive on booking .com . I have seen some reviews on reviews.com and choice.com and the reviews are not great for Agoda.com , just wondering if anyone have any booking experience with them , are they even legit or scam ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used Agoda for a hotel in Barcelona almost 5 or 6 years ago.
    No issues on my end:)

I've booked many hotels through agoda, they're not a scam website.

I'm pretty sure I've used them before and it worked. I don't like them as much as booking.com though, I also find it doesn't always track with Shopback/cashback if they do them?

Agoda is part of Booking.com/Priceline.com which is one of the biggest travel related booking business in the world.

Agoda is the budget brand of Booking.com

Online reviews for most companies are generally negative because most people only tend to post a review when they are unhappy

No problems. I have used Agoda for over 14 years throughout Australia and Asia.
Never an issue and would highly recommend.
Part of a bigger conglomeration now but still better than the parent company.

Used many times. Never an issue. Even cancellations due to Covid handled with no issues.

I always use Agoda for accommodation bookings. They have been 100% alright for me and they also give me some bonus dollars to set off future bookings. They never fail me and I I find their rates are cheaper too. There free cancellation can be done too easily.

I've been using Agoda, along with Booking.com and Wotif for years. They've been fine for me. Use whichever works out cheaper for you.

One thing I dislike about Agoda is they don't charge in AUD (even for domestic booking) so your accommodation cost can fluctuate with FX rate.

Edit: If you're using cashback like CR or SB, compare the "with cashback" price against "without". It often gets jacked so much you are better off without cashback.

  • Don't forget Cashrewards - 5% is pretty decent.

    • And sometimes as high as 14%

Beware the price can increase disproportionately when you have cashback activated.

For example, I was quoted ~$70 a night for an accommodation. As soon as I activated cashback, it jumped to ~$90. I chose to book without cashback.

  • Agoda is fine. They are a subsidary of bookings.com (I think). A lot of them are owned by a big brand. You will do well just going with the cheapest.

You will do well just going with the cheapest.

Not quite. Some of the cheaper subsidiaries have different T&Cs so must make sure to read them all carefully. It's cheaper for a reason!

  • Used often never had an issue. Will say though you need to read T&Cs, hotel policies and note cancellation date.

Try booking direct with the accommodation - they are often happy to match or cheaper.

Used them several times.. no issues

  • Has anyone added in an extra guest name and had their cashback ineligible?

  • I wouldn't. I used them years ago with a brand new, never used before CC for a trip to Vietnam. I hadn't used the CC again (it was a reserve back up with a $1K limit). I also did some bookings with my regular CC.

About a month after my holiday, I got called up by my new CC company asking about odd transactions. It seems my CC was compromised and being used in South Africa to buy movie tickets and flights.

The next day, I see similar transactions on my regular CC in SA. I call the company, challenge the transactions then block and replace the card.

Either 2 things happened, either criminals guessed both CC and CCV numbers, or Agoda was compromised. I contacted Agoda and they just denied it.

Haven't used them or the parent company's other sites since.
