Cheap eReader

Anyone know if theres any deals on eReaders atm? Preferably around $100 and available at the Good Guys too so I can price match.

I noticed on the GG website theres the Kobo wifi and touch model, and the iRiver story HD, but reviews arent convincing me to get them. Are there other models/brands at GG worth looking at?

Cheers

BigW is still selling the Kindle Keyboard refurb for $99. I have one myself, bought last year and it looks new to me, no scratches, works fine, battery life is great. Don't have any problem with it.

  • Dude, you missed out by a few days: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68507 but if you check your local Woolies you might get lucky! I got a 3g for $149 & couldn't be happier with it! :)

The refurbs are a good deal, most reports are that they are as good as new. BigW & DSE still have them AFAIK, but worst case scenario IIRC graysonline had some too! ;)

  • Is the Kindle wifi with keyboard good for reading pdf files though? I heard it was a bit sluggish and disappointing in that area. Plus problem in transferring pdf files from PC to it.
Anyone know if The Good Guys stock the Kindle? Thinking of using the 20% off giftcards to enhance the discount!

    • Dunno, mine turns the pages a hell of a lot faster than I can read them, so any 'sluggishness' might be a bit of a non-issue! IMHO the extra memory & double battery life makes the KKB the pick of the litter!

I don't know of any problem transferring pdfs or any other file to it, just drag them & drop them like any other removable storage with the USB cable…no rocket surgery involved there! You can also use calibre or similar to convert files & manage collections with a plugin.

I also run kite to allow some more apps like kinamp & coolreader…it's freakin awesome! :)

    • yes it can be slugish - however you can covert the pdf's to .mobi and it should be faster. Especailly if the PDF is text and not images
