    Got excited for a minute, thought this was some magical new Kindle product with an external keyboard. Then realised its just something I already have. :(

    • Why would you want a Kindle with an external keyboard? (Unless it was a Kindle Fire, then I would understand)

      • I don't really. I wouldn't mind taking this mythical external keyboard and using it when I need to use citrix on my phone, rather than attempting to type on the on-screen keyboard and not being able to see any of the display anymore.

  • +1

    This is nationwide (for all stores that have stock).

  • Similar to this? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61795 Woolies own DickSmith so it could be refurbished like the one on DSE's website.

    • +2

      But I think the OP emphasised the 'NEW' because Woolies/Big W/DSE are known to sell the refurbished units as well. Might go and check it out later.

      • +4

        That was exactly my point. If it is unclear I'll amend the title if somebody can suggest what would be better phrasing.

    • Exactly the same thing, except there was no mention of being refurbished. I was told they were new. If there's anything on the receipt or box that will confirm whether its not a refurb I'll check.

      • Well I googled refurbished Kindle KB and it came up with this: http://imgc.classistatic.com/cps/kjc/120212/445r1/0416k24_20…

        So I guess if there's no sticker then it's new. Can you post a picture if the box + receipt?

        • My phone camera isn't working properly since I updated so I can't upload a picture sorry.
          There is no sticker on the back of the box. Looks like your link but without stickers. I'm pretty sure that means it is new.
          The receipt has the description "Amazon Kindle Wifi Wireless RDNG DEV1EA".
          In reply to my reply, there is also no R with a cloud either.

        • Mt refurbished kindle from Big W didn't have that sticker…?

          I think it did have an R with a cloud on it though? On the side or something

        • Hmmm, my box is different to the image I posted (see my comment below).

          EDIT: Nevermind. I just opened it and there's another box on the inside.

        • I bought a refurbished Kindle from Big W when that $99 deal came out some time ago. When it came, it didn't have any sticker on it or anything that would indicate it was refurbished. So it may be refurbished even without the sticker.

          In any case, in this case I was impressed by the quality of the refurbished unit. If the receipt hadn't specifically mentioned it was refurbished, I would have assumed it was new. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurbished one from Big W again.

        • I have a "refurbished" bigw one as well.

          By refurbished maybe they were just re-flashed for our region from another or similar. I cant see any sign at all that it had been used, no dust, finger prints ect. Looks totally mint.

        • my keyboard refurb (not from woolies) has no top sticker either and it looks mint.
          it does have the special offers barcode with the 'R' in the cloud

        • My understanding is that the refurbs were mostly new, or so damn close to it that you would never know without a sticker. I think it's win-win either way! :)

  • how do we know which stores are selling? do we have to ring up each woolies to find out? easier method somebody?

    • +1

      If Woolworths had a national database like Officeworks I would have checked. As it is, if people tell me where it is/isn't I'll update the description to include that information. Otherwise I think calling up might be the only way.

      • Could u pls check any stock left around north of river suburbs in Perth? Thanks.

  • They dont like to make it easy do they.
    Ring around the state for stock.

    Just want to confirm, that these are BRAND NEW. I picked one up a week or two ago (as a spare). It is just luck-of-the-draw which stores still have stock. You can also get the KK+3G for $149. Woolworths are selling the cases discounted as well: $19.95 for the regular Amazon leather case and $29.95 for the lighted Amazon leather case.

    For West Aussies SOR:

    No stock of the KK Wi-Fi at these stores:
    * Kwinana
    * Rockingham City
    * Waikiki
    * Warnbro
    * Secret Harbour

    One KK+3G in stock at:
    * Warnbro

    Standard Leather Cases in stock at:
    * Rockingham City

    • Thanks for the extra information, I've added it to the description.

    • why didn't you post up here a week or two ago? :-I

  • out of stock at Sydeny Town Hall.

  • Just got back from the Sunshine Marketplace Woolies. I took the last Wifi one but they had 6 3G ones left. Here's a photo of the box and receipt: http://i.imgur.com/Q5EF5.jpg

    Thanks mskram!!!

    • You could have earned 69 QFF points ,,,OMG ,,,

      thanks for the receipt mate , but that is just poor Ozbargaining ;-)

  • There's been chatter of this markdown at Woolies for about a week but stock seems fairly thin. I happen to ask at my local when I did the shopping but they had none left (think they only had one and sold it).

    The 3G version was about $150 and the newer model (Kindle 4) was normal price.

    I'm kind of glad they were out of stock as I probably couldn't have resisted. Just bought a Kindle Touch for someone with lighted case and it's brilliant. Will save myself for that.

  • Staff are so incompetent: after calling about 7 stores. Despite specifically stating "Kindle with keyboard, wifi only for $99" … I keep getting responses like this:

    • is that the large one or the small one
    • is that 3G or wifi
    • i also got laughed at for asking if it was new or refurb. Seems pretty normal question to me.
    • in double checking the prices, i also got quotes like $200 (they weren't near a scanner, gets locked upstairs in some special room apparently).
    • oh and this is the worst, i have to break open the box to tell you which kindle it is. The box doesn't have any product info on it. … Ok i would refuse to take that one on many grounds - namely "new" and "breaking" don't go hand in hand for me.

    Here's where I got mine, use Everyday Rewards for more off!

    Part of Woolies/DSE Group

    http://www.doorbuster.com.au/amazon-kindle-refurb.html

    • But that's refurbished and the normal price for a refurbished one.

    • +1

      and don't forget to include postage costs on top

      • $97.92 posted after Everyday discount, packed, performs and looks like brand new item, even tho' refurb quoted.

        Bought 2 at different times, same experience.

        Anecdotally said to be clearing warehouse stock as refurbs to appease previous new buyers.

  • thanks op, just got cover for kindle keyboad from bondi jnct, 2 lighted covers, 1 unlighted for keyboard, and 1 for touch left (not on display - must ask at service counter). Sorry cant vote, my nokia want let me.

    • what do the cases look like? can you provide a link?

      • +1

        They are the genuine Amazon cases. Just go to Amazon's website for more information.

        • +1

          What I particularly like is that the lighted case is powered by the device itself, no need for mucking around with additional batteries! :)

  • Thanks OP for posting this - i've been wanting a cheap kindle for ages! now got one - happy!

    Good deal for a new Kindle with keyboard wifi. But you should also consider the Kindle Fire, available for around $200 on eBay. Reading and surfing in colour is a whole world of difference to black and white.

    • +2

      They are using different screens. For reading, EInk screen is the best at the moment.

      • -6

        The Kindle Fire has three reading modes - black on white, white on black (night mode) and sepia. You'll retire the regular Kindle when you have the Fire. Also, the coloured Eink screen is not too far off.

        • +4

          You obviously do not do a lot of reading. There is NO WAY the Kindle Fire would be an avid readers first choice.

  • +1

    Sweet, grabbed myself a 3g for $149! :)

    • I slipped into another Woolies near work at lunchtime too & grabbed myself a case with a light for $30 - half price! :)

      It's definitely worth the ring around to find stocks of what you want, there's a few still about at various Woolies stores apparently! ;)

  • -1

    Research the Fire and you will find out that millions are using it to read ebooks. Technical books like the Operations Management that was posted had coloured charts and diagrams and looked more vivid on the Fire than the regular Kindle. The latter is only good for reading novels.

    • Well, for those books you can happily use your iPad/Transformer/whatever else tablet you are using.
      Kindle's target are people who want to read everywhere, who prefer the quality and readibility of the display.
      Don't get me wrong, Fire may be excellent, but just for different type of customers. I want to be able to read outside, don't worry about the battery every day and have experience as close as possible to a classic paper.
      For colour things I use iPad or even the Optus ZTE (more portable), but I still got Kindle. Try it and you will not want to go back. :-)

      • Yes, I've tried it on the Kindle Fire and don't want to go back to my Kindle 3 :-)

  • For the KK + 3G sold here, can someone clarify whether:
    -this is the sponsored one with ads?
    -and if it is sponsored, only connects to the Vodafone network in Australia?

    Thanks.

    • No Ads, that is only in the US. This is a standard brand new Kindle keyboard 3G + Wifi.
      From what I can see yes, it does connect to Vodafone. Will check somewhere where there is no Vodafone coverage…
      But I think by now you got a very slim chance of getting one…

  • +1

    Excellent deal! Cheaper than Amazon! Got lucky and get my hands on the last KK + 3G at Thornleigh, including the original case with light. Unbelievable price. Thanks mskram!

  • There is 1 available as of last night at West Ryde NSW store. I sold 1 last night, and there was one more left.

  • bought one wiki version at Sydney carlingford WW last night for $99, and was told only one left

  • None at Leichhardt but the lady there was kind enough to call around and managed to get a KK 3G from Ashfield. There might be a few there left.

  • Lucky enough to get a 3g one at Woolies Wynyard. Lady that served me said there were a few left.

  • just got the $99 WiFi Kindle (definitely new, not refurbished) and a $29.95 lighted cover from Lane Cove WW. Thanks!

  • Hmm I wonder if that woolies I go to marked it down. Will tell after I buy one don't want to miss out :P
