    Investment?? Wow

    • +1

you need to diversify your investment, get an umbrella(s).

      • Wouldn't Umbrella Corp automatically diversify for you? Getting a blunt classic umbrella would definitely result in a high yield.

  • +3

    Umbrella loan perhaps?

  • +1

Who needs an 80k car. All you need now is an umbrella.

  • +1

    What yield of this investment?

    • +2

-100% if you leave it on the train or bus or if someone nicks it from the bucket at the front of a restaurant

  • +1

Will the dividends be fully franked?

  • +5

I have a Blunt umbrella and I can definitely recommend it unless you're the type of person who leaves behind umbrellas on public transport, restaurants etc

    • That’s me, and why I’ll stick to the OW or Bunnings for umbrellas and shares for an investment.

  • Or buy 10 Bunnings umbrellas?

    • +4

…so I can add more to landfill every time one dies? No thanks. I’d rather spend more to buy something that lasts. It is sickening to see just how much of a throw away society we have become.

  • +1

$99 for an umbrella? My Xiaomi is fine.

  • Can someone explain to me why this is superior than a normal umbrella?

    • I guess like a Porsche 911 is superior to a Hyundai excel? Although the excel was probably more reliable.

      • Not the first bubble car one - that was an unreliable death trap

    • I have the Crumpler x Blunt of this, and they are built solid

    • +7

They can withstand pretty much any strength wind you can throw at them.

St Georges Tce in Perth is often one of the windiest places around and most umbrellas simply aren't up to the task when the wind is blowing and can be found either dumped on the side of the footpath or sticking out a bin nearby. There's been occasions where I've been the only person with their umbrella (Blunt Classic) up as the others would simply collapse or pop inside-out.

They can actually be too strong and dangerous in the hands of young ones, especially if they hang onto it when a gust of wind hits and they either get pulled along the ground or out into the traffic. The G1 & G2 are also great for watching the kids play sport in the middle of winter too. We often get people asking what brand they are due to how well they hold up to the roughest weather.

      • iirc they have 2 yrs global warranty on these that you can go back for. i mean sure, you can also try to claim a bunnings umbrella warranty under ACL too.

  • +1

Pretty sure these come up for $70 unless it's a smaller version! I've been looking for a good quality umbrella on/off for a while and this was one of the few I thought looked best (price not-withstanding) but $50 is about the max I want to spend??
I've had a few umbrella's that have blown out in the wind so I've owned the lesson about buying cheap ones. I'd love to hear any recommendations if you've got a good one that's passed the test. It's pretty rare you need an umbrella but when you do, you really do!

    • +1

$70 would be the Metro which is compact but much smaller canopy. Blunt prices have increased since the last sale I think. To me it is worth it. I hate crappy umbrellas which turn out in the wind and rust away. These are designed to last and they look good too. I prefer to buy quality over junk that you have to replace over and over.

  • +1

I don't buy expensive ones because then I'll just end up losing an expensive umbrella

    • +2

      you won't if its expensive!

      • Very True (to certain extent anyway) ;D

    • +1

I use to lose cheapo umbrellas all the time. Decided to buy this umbrella and it's still sticking around 6 years later.

  • +1

For a $139 RRP I'd want it to have proximity sensors that notify me whenever I'm about to leave it somewhere lol

    • +5

$99 Umbrella plus $40 AirTag = $139 does exactly that.

      • -1

Oh please don't let this be the future of humanity where one tags everything they own 🤣

I guess if everyone joins in they wouldn't look like such a twat for doing it but, there's an upside!

        • Is the upside more twats?

          Can you expand please?

          • @quog: Once society normalises what is weird/idiotic, it's no longer weird/idiotic

So basically yeah if everyone is a twat then no one is 😂

        • -1

I don’t tag everything, just valuable things I tend to forget (keys, umbrella, backpack). Also my car - when you have cognitive overload and sleep deprivation from work short term memory is the first thing to go. Not sure how you would know if someone tags their stuff (it’s pretty inconspicuous) so I am not worried about looking like a twat. Tagging stuff with trackers is not weird at all, it is a good insurance policy. But tagging people…now that’s creepy.

        • +1

it's not stupid if it works. if anything, airtags and the like is going to get smaller in the future, making more opportunities to be applied to more things.

          • -1

            @slowmo: Easier to stalk?

Does this post belong on reddit conspiracy?

            • @quog: almost every tech you can think of can be abused. stalkers stalk even before airtags is a thing.
is it easier? arguable. airtags wasn't the first in the market.

unfortunately the tech is here, so either the product gets improved or there's regulation to ban it. mindful that people committing crimes don't care much about bans.

on the upside, for one, i see a lot of useful potential applications for people with accessibility issues. it goes beyond just looking for your own house keys.

like i said, the tech is here, burying head in the sand isn't going to cause the people who want to abuse it to stop. it's more constructive to generate awareness to others who don't even use these sort of tags but are potential targets.

          • @slowmo: Exactly - not sure why we are getting negged …?

            • @pierrejb: no idea. everything can be abused if you dig deep enough. creeps gunna creep. better to be aware of the risks than just be naive to think that if you don't buy one of these things, you won't become a target. because that's absolutely not how these tags were abused.

    • But a new one each year to get the benefit of dollar cost averaging?

  • +1

Can't wait to leave this on the bus!

    • +6

Can't wait to find one on the bus!

      • i found a bus

  • Have had umbrellas for fifty years and never lost one, wouldn't mind losing the wife though! I have a blunt umbrella and it is great and unless you are a buffoon, will not blow inside out!

    • +2

      haha wife bad

    • +1

Does the wife blow inside out?

  • Have one of these for over 10 years and still going strong. Investment? Yeah - naaah for the peeps that frequently lose umbrellas. Recommend for the daily public transport commuters, like me, that keeps their possessions close. Currently, same price on blunt website with black and other colours still in stock. Prob go with them over catch tbh

    • Didn't realise these had been around that long tbh only found out about them a year or so ago but since then I've seen a few out in the wild. $100 is really hard for me to justify though I really wish they were $60 on sale.

      • I think they’re designed or originally came from NZ. I brought my one over when I moved over here from Auckland (Yes, a friggin Kiwi on Ozbargin lol). They are expensive but good quality and definitely eye catching (not literally, as they are blunt).

      • They have been around since the early 2000s.

    • +1

Looks like that's $99 USD on the US site, still $139 on the AU site.

  • If you need an umbrella this strong, capable of handling super strong winds. You probably shouldn't be walking outside.

  • Investment? If I purchase this there is guaranteed to be a drought.

  • Could be a nice umbrella. but after I lost 3 on buses, will never buy more than $10 ones. Currently use Woolworth $9.9 manual umbrella, fit the purpose.

  • +2

These are good, but are marketed as though they're the last umbrella you will ever need. This is not necessarily true.
Where the ribs are attached to the canopy, its just a few strands of cotton. Several of mine have let go or ripped. Fixable but very fiddly.

Best thing about them is they are blunt and wont poke eyes.

    • how did the warranty process go for you? i'm curious about the experience.

      • It was outside the warranty period, and purchased it through a work promo deal so didn't have proof of purchase either.

They do talk the talk tho and seem to stick by their product. But I've never used the warranty so can't comment any more than that.

        • cool, thanks for the reply!
i've a couple of their umbrellas, and so far i didn't have the need to go for their warranty.

  • +1

I dont see a wind vent on the top? How can a $100 umbrella not include a vent?

    • +1

It doesn't need them because of their build quality and strength

  • I can vouch for Blunt's after sales service. My wife managed to bend the shaft of her Blunt (closed a door on it or something, best not to ask) and Blunt repaired it for free even though it was definitely out of warranty. Also, the new Blunts are designed to be repaired, and they can supply you the replacement parts.

that's a sharp price for a blunt product

  • Anybody have experience with reverse close umbrellas? Them, or this?
