  • This or the Crucial P1 1TB better?

  • This for sure

  • I have a Dell XPS and will keep the main SSD etc, but has a slot for 2nd M.2 that I want to use to record constantly.. is this drive going to burn out with that kinda work? plus editing and maybe as game storage too?

600 TBW for 5 year warranty. That means 120 TB per year you can write before failure.
If my math serves me right, 300 GB limit per day, 365 days a year for 5 years before failure.

It will last the lifetime of the laptop before it shows any issues

    Got one for ps5

You're going to be dissapointed.. it's not Gen4

      • -1

If you look at description it mentions gen4 so if you didn't know better you'd think it is.

        • Its the ebay listing that's confusing, but the A2000 drive isn't Gen4 per this deal, but the drop down and ebay site lists like 20 other models.

          • @xdivino: Yeh I noticed it… It'd definitely confuse someone who didn't check carefully.

        • Its alright, then claim item significantly not as described…

SN850, 980 pro and Firecuda 520 are the ones you need.

this, or samsung evo plus 1tb?

    • or Samsung 980 Pro or WD SN850 or Segate 520?

This listing has no 970 Evo Plus option. If you are after a good PCIe gen 3 SSD, then the choices are WD SN750 or 970 Evo Plus. If you really care about sustained write, SN750 is probably the last remaining one which hasn't got the NAND chip nerfed. 970 Evo Plus now has inferior NAND, but Samsung put in a new controller and that controller does bring in significant performance boost in most cases, so for most people, the price drop and better controller makes 970 Evo Plus somewhat attractive.

  • Do modern motherboards have multiple M.2 slots?

I have an Asus B150M Pro Gaming motherboard which pc part picker says should be compatible with this. And it would be nice to put some games on this.

But I'm probably due for a new PC this year. So I'd be wanting a Gen 4 one then as my main drive I'd think.

So i was wondering if I I could just move this over later as extra game storage?

    • Ofc you can, but you would need to have Win installed on another drive or possibly transfer games over to another drive then make this your win drive.
If you're talking abt Steam then they have the ability to migrate games over to a new drive without the hassle of having to dl again.

    • Most of them do, but some cheapo ones might still be limited to one.

Then, there is that if you have a deep pocket and go for Z690, then you "might" have 3 PCIe gen 4 slots…

Code of PMAR15 for those that don't have Ebay Plus.

Thanks for the post. Quite timely for me.

  • With the A2000 getting more and more scarce what would be the next best alternative?

    • KIOXIA RC10, i am not sure if it sells in Australia. but it is very competitive among gen3 SSDs.

    • Probably this.

    • +1

      Some possible alternatives:

      • WD SN550 (with now the well known inferior / infamous NAND flash swap)
      • KC2500
      • WD SN570
      • Samsung 970 Evo Plus

There are still lots of options. A2000 is old and isn't that great. Has quite a few weak spots.

  • Why not KC2500 @$139.00?

    • +1

      You beat me to it!

For those who haven't bought a2000 yet, upgrade a little to get the KC2500, it's predecessor.

      • Fyi KC2500 might not fit on some laptops

    • KC2500 is slightly unusual. Maybe because it is an oldish design, it could get double sided NVMe SSDs. It is fine if you want to put it in a desktop PC or even an Mini - ITX PC, but might be an issue for thin laptops and some cheaper enclosures (especially those tool free ones).
