My name is Sam and operate Sparrods & Co, based in Canberra.

It all started in summer 2018 when we went searching for high quality handcrafted shoes which exhibit great craftsmanship with finest calfskin leather at accessible prices, to our dismay, we discovered majority of the leather shoes on the Australia market are made of poly synthetic leather (PU) which are of poor quality and have questionable craftsmanship. These shoes fall apart with few wears due to the poor leather materials used and the construction.

This resulted in the birth of Sparrods & Co with a simple mission to produce premium handcrafted leather shoes with high quality calfskin leather sourced from certified tanneries in Europe, sold directly to you at accessible prices with excellent 24/7 customer service.

We researched different shoe factories and tanneries in different countries. We travelled to many factories in different countries. We sampled hundreds of shoes from Italy, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, and Columbia before settling with a small family-owned factory in Portugal.

Our shoes are handcrafted which exhibit great craftsmanship with strong attention to details. The designs are thoroughly thought through by our designers and significant amount of time and effort dedicated for each shoe. We take pride in the quality of our shoes. All details of our shoes are meticulously handcrafted using finest calf leather with our customers in mind. All shoes come in limited editions and are not mass produced.

After months of delays, we finally received our sneakers collections and OFFERING $30 ON OFF ALL ORDERS with FREE & FAST DELIVERY. Each package comes with free shoehorn and dust bag.

You are guaranteed of the premium products which are super comfortable, made using finest calfskin leather and constructed to last the test of time.

Be your own judge, regarding this essentially drop ship shoe seller.

Based on disingenuous nature of past exchanges on OzB, I for one would not go near them.

Also, much better prices out there importing yourself.

You seem to have some sort of personal vendetta against these guys and/or anything non Goodyear welt.

You’ve said countless times there are cheaper offerings for better quality and yet you’ve never once posted an example. Care to share?

      • We don't dropship products. We are selling our products on Westfield Direct and Catch.com (we are going live on catch.com next week).

We own the brand and have all the sneakers collection in our warehouse in Canberra. We are currently waiting for the arrival of our boots and dress shoes which will in our warehouse by first week in April.

Dress shoes and boots are constructed using different methods. Cemented, Blake, Goodyear, Blake Rapid, Stitchdown, Handwelted and many others.

Our sneakers are constructed using sidewall stitched construction. Our dress shoes and boots are constructed using Goodyear welted and Blake stitched known as Blake Rapid. Product description are clearly specified on our website

We don't use cemented construction which is used by many brands.

As I stated in the post, our products are built to last the test of time. All products are made on Portugal. All leather materials are sourced from Germany, France and Italy.

      • Just pointing out my experience with how good this poster is at avoiding answering specific questions about cost, quality, sourcing and even what type of busines they are. Online only company with ABN showing listed in NSW and historically WA, with address liisted on website what appears to be a share office/virtual office space in ACT.

All smells fishy to me - simply pointing that out to other OZbers.

N.B. Many drop ship companies on Catch, Kogan etc.

I know good quality shoes and think it reasonable to flag a big "buyer beware" here. Not all on the surface may be as genuine as is being purported.

        YMMV!

Replied multiple times on OzB in past: you can start with sales pages on Herring Shoes and Pediwear, for much better quality to value ratio & trustworthy offerings of shoes manufactured by well known, very established UK and European shoemakers. Some of the OEM offerings under Herring name from same very highly esteemed brands probably best bang for buck out there esp. if you can snare your size on sale.

Sparrods was started in WA and relocated to Queanbeyan NSW close to Canberra. We rented an office space in Canberra and currently in negotiation with Westfield Wooden ACT for a physical store. We are also in discussion with ICONIC to sell on their platform. We are direct to consumer business. We produce all our products in Portugal.

We don't dropship products. All our stocks are with us and we ship to customers immediately they buy. Our products have been worn and being worn by many Australians.

Our leather materials sourced from Tannery Du Puy (France) and Weinheimer Tannery (Germany).

I don't know what your objective is. We have faced alot of challenges to bring Sparrods & Co to light and very happy about the products are selling to Australians and our customers worldwide.

Customers who have bought our products can attest to the quality and excellent craftsmanship.

@bensue: Where physically is the warehouse?

            • @opposablethumbs: Our warehouse is in Queanbeyan 2620 NSW. Queanbeyan is a border town with Canberra.

@bensue: Is the purported Westfield store going to be manned by your one listed employee, Sam Nyarko?

The claims about negotiations/discussions that are in progress not actually realised, plus being listed on online retail services that allow drop shippers from the likes of Aliexpress, again raise red flags for me.

From my perspective this "company" does not appear to be all that it purports once you start pulling back the curtain. This continues to make me question the quality and value of its products.

                • @opposablethumbs: We don't dropship products from Ali Express. We don't produce our products in China. We are not a dropshipping company. We design and produce our own product in a factory in Portugal.

                  • -1

@bensue: Haven't said you do. Said that there is little veracity from the likes of Catch etc. regarding source and quality of products, which as an extreme example even allows drop shipping from Aliexpress based companies.

You keep using the same techniques of the internet charlatan that tries to present themselves as something they are not (including trying to bolster authenticity by claiming all these upcoming "discussions" and "negotiations" with legitimate companies - something I also note you conveniently chose not to address from my last comment.)

This continues to raise red flags for me about the nature of your company and the quality/value of your products. If you are a one person online company operating from your garage, with a virtual office front to look legitmiate, that imports stuff cheap from Portugal then onsells at significant mark up, then why not just be up front about it?

At least then the discerning users of OzB can evaluate the value proposition of your products for themselves.

                  @opposablethumbs: Hmm. Valid questions.
I just signed up to respond to this. I checked out their website and the 'About Us' has lots of spelling/grammatical mistakes - which to me is a huge red flag.

                  • @tastemax: Thank you for the feedback

  • Where are they made? China?

    • All our products are made in Portugal. We don't produce in China

hmm styling of the alphas is similar to Grensons "sneaker 3" except those have more pronounced broguing…but these a lot more favourable to my budget.

this concerns me though, and it's making me hesitant about completing the purchase:

In the event we run any sales or promotions, purchased product cannot be returned for refund, instead you will be given a store credit to use to purchase other product.

not really confidence inspiring with a brand no one's heard of before, buying a shoe we've never tried on before.
