Replacement for Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

I'm wanting to replace my current Galaxy Tab S 8.4" tablet.

After looking around there doesn't seem to be much that is comparable.

All premium tablets only seem to come with 12" or larger, which is way too big for me.

I did actually purchase a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite but the screen wasn't nearly as good as the Tab S from 2014.

I don't need anything too beefy in terms of specs. I'll just be using it for browsing and YouTube. Most seem to be laptop replacements. That's overkill for me.

I'm hoping to spend about $500-600 but can go higher.

Can anyone recommend anything that might fit the following:

8-10" OLED screen
MicroSD Card Slot
Wifi only is fine.
Grey import is fine but I'd prefer not to have to flash a custom ROM or sideload APK to get Google Play.

Thanks!

Not sure if this helps but I was also looking for a small tablet to play games. I went for an iPad mini 6 as it runs Genshin impact flawlessly at the highest graphic setting

    • I've only purchased one Apple phone/tablet, an iPhone 3GS back in 2009 (I think).
They are great but I find Apple products very constrictive.
No MicroSD support and zero ability to flash Custom Firmware (my current tablet is only usable thanks to community developed firmware).

I recently tired to reactivate my Apple account after a 12 year absence.
I had to wait 14 days for the privilege, Apple charged me $70 and I still don't have access to it, so I gave up.

Also I'm very old school when it comes to gaming.
      Consoles and Handhelds only.
      Showing my age now! :-)

Lenovo M10 FHD Plus, is half your budget and foregoes the OLED for LCD, but performs well. Screen looks very nice, performance is fine and Sound is decent.

As above, for price/performance, you simply can't beat iPad. Their SoC performance is miles in front of Qualcomm or MediaTek.
Even the bottom of the range is superior to anything you can buy in the Android space for similar money.

OP, I'd suggest going into your local JB Hi-Fi and looking at the tablets in person. You can play around with them and you might even find the size of the new S8 tablet (or S7) isn't as big as you think.

    • Yeah I might look at doing that.
I was also looking at a Xiaomi Pad 5 (Global Version) or a Xiaoxin Pad Pro but as these are imports dunno if I'm comfortable spending $600 - $800 on a tbalet I cant see beforehand. (also the Xiaoxin Pad Pro doesn't currently have a Global ROM or Google Play support).

      • $500 - $600 is still a lot of money, I would only go for Samsung or Apple if I was spending that much. You definitely don't want lag or anything, look into secondhand S7 tablets but check the size is right instore first.

        • Had a look at them in person.
I'm now in the position of comparing two VERY different tablets.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ for around $1100 gets me everything I want but is HUGE.
Lenovo Tab M10 Plus for around $300 gets me everything I want but no OLED.

I don't need a lot of horsepower to watch YouTube or run the Chrome Browser.
I just want it to look as good as possible in terms of screen quality and resolution :-)

Don't get the Galaxy Tab A7 - I have one for occasional use but its very laggy to use. Was surprised given its not that old.

  • Ipad 9th gen, cheaper than many androids, but no sd card slot though

    • I would really like to get an iPad but recovering my Apple password recently has been a nightmare and I don't like being told what I can and can't do with hardware I have purchased.

      • what happened ?

        • I had to wait 14 days for them to send me a link.
When they sent me the link I clicked on it and they sent me a SMS code but the code never arrived on my phone.
I tried this 6 times but I never got the SMS code so I gave up.
The next day I notice that I had 6 charges of $14.99 from 'APPLE.COM' on my credit card. Not sure if this is actually them or someone trying to scam my card, the timing is strange.
I can't contact Apple directly to query the charges, because Apple, so I'm a bit over it at this stage.
