    Light with Bug Zapper

Does it do it humanely, or will PETA protest outside the stores?

    • +13

That's OK, Aldi are installing massive PETAZappers outside their stores to handle such situations.

      • +1

        installing massive PETAZappers

        nice…

      • +1

if that happens, I hope they're young and naked

      • That will be a good upgrade from the terazappers they currently have. Oh, I remember the days of megazappers and gigazappers like it was yesterday…

  • +4

I bought a bug zapper from ALDI maybe about a year ago or so and returned it. Found bugs flying all around it but not really going in and getting zapped. A whole night and no bugs dead. Returned the next day. Not sure if this is an upgraded version that actually works.

    • +3

I did the same, it was completely useless. I had flies crawling on the outside of the unit and not getting zapped. I now have a "Yard Guard" which works far better both indoors and outdoors: https://www.bunnings.com.au/yard-guard-bug-vac-flying-insect…, highly recommended.

That's an expensive tray with led

        • +4

          I think you'll find it's a $95 LED with $1 tray

        • Yep - LED with reflector and a fan to suck the bugs into their demise.

        • I've had similar globe ones and LED ones.

The LED with reflector one was hopeless, bugs simply weren't attracted to it for some reason.
The more expensive globe one managed to kill a fair few, even managed to scorch a mouse.

          YMMV

    • I too purchased this last tine it was on sale…… it actually killed a fair few bugs……

      • +8

It doesn't count if you're using it to squash them.

      • +4

mine doesn't. I actually saw a bug tried hard to get in to get zapped, but finally it gave up.

    • touche! mine didn't work at all, useless PIS

        Purchase Initiated Stupidly?

        • +2

          Pests Irritatingly Safe

    • Me too, used it for months and never saw it kill one bug yet.

    • The only thing I found it would reliably kill were those little tiny bugs that are attracted to computer screens, table lamps, etc. The mozzies were still feasting on me at night and only once in a great while did I find one stuck to the electric grid.

  • +2

The white light kind of defeats the purpose of the blue light

  • +1

    This or electric racket?

  • Get a thermacell if you really want to be bug free

    • No good for killing the mozzie that's marauding your bedroom

      • I think you need Mortein or a 240V zapper if you feel like getting a tan while you sleep

  • programmers bought 999999

  • +1

anyone tried those uv light with a suction fan on the bottom? do those work well indoors?

    • +1

I have one of these https://www.bunnings.com.au/gecko-12v-bionic-lantern-bug-tra… seems to work on everything except mosquitos. From what I've read mosquitos don't really go for the light.

      • Mozzies are attracted to CO₂

      • You didnt read too closely. Top two reviews on bunnings site says kills mozzies.

        eg

Runs very quiet Always has dead mozzies other little insects in the bottom when I empty it Looks neat on the bench top My only suggestion would be to close windows and doors in the room where it is, as the light will attract bugs from outside the home.

        • I'm just going by my experience

      • It should… It Releases CO2

      • Says its a "trapper, not a zapper".. does that mean the bugs are all alive in one place for you?

        • +2

They are trapped and dehydrate, depending on when you look in, there may still be alive ones. So I always empty it outside. Some also get chopped by the fan. One time the insects decided to lay stick eggs inside, which was annoying to clean out.

    • had one, worked only in dark rooms and no one in the room. I would just go take a shower and the mozzie would be caught.

try to get one which you can see inside if a mosquito is caught.

  • +2

Bought this last year, absolutely useless at killing any bug, and it stopped holding charge recently, so I threw it out. Avoid.

  • Kmart also do a similar one, but cheaper iirc.

  • +1

    These are useless

  • Culicide

  • Apparently coffee ground is a good mosquito repellant. Either sprinkled around the area or can be burned.

  • Heh.

I'm still using the order version, as they pictured in the 3rd image. It's okay for like the $5 I paid for it on clearance, kills mozzies/smaller moths but no flys.

It seems they've updated it as the first 2 images are different, making it longer probably to accommodate bigger bugs. Not sure if it'd still be worth the full $20 though.

You could probably find something on Ali for the same price that's unregulated/overpowered enough to use as a tazer or something ridiculous. 😅

  • Or this fancy one?
