Original Coupon Deal

Local price $779 AUD. This deal: $575 AUD ($550 AUD if you use Cashrewards 5% discount as well). Great Planar Headphone released around 6 months ago. Cheapest way to get into the Hifiman Egg shaped headphone sound that comes close enough to the sound signature of the $1999 Arya headphone for 28% of the price. Also is a decent upgrade over the Sundara due to much better bass extension and punch.

Instruction 1.

Empty your Aliexpress Cart. Checkout in USD with a bank card (Not Paypal) for the lowest currency conversion fee. If you want the Cashreward's lower price of $550, you may have to add the item into your Aliexpress 'Wish List' from the link on this page prior to clicking through via Cashrewards because Aliexpress search engine is very random with search result and you may not be able to find this exact product link in the search engine. Then you can just go to your Aliexpress Wish List after navigating through Cashrewards to get to the product page.

Instruction 2.

  1. You have followed Instruction 1
  2. Click on the Headphones product page from Wishlist. Get Aliexpress store discount by clicking the 'get coupon' button, add all the available coupons.
  3. Go to Checkout page, verify the store discounts above have been auto applied, then enter the additional $30 USD Aliexpress Sale coupon manually during checkout. ANNI30, Admitad30M or BESTC30M.

With GST added, the total should come to ~$575 AUD delivered. With Cashrewards 5% Cashback, that will bring down the price to ~$550 AUD.

P.S
This headphone needs a headphone amp to run well. Aliexpress free standard shipping with tracking currently takes around 10-14 days from my recent experience.

    COUPON FAPPING INVOLVED.

    Giggity.

    • It was getting a bit exciting in here, description edited.

      • +1

Now you have ruined it. 😂

    What's coupon fapping?

    • It's exactly what it sounds like.

  • +2

Instructions unclear. Tried coupon fapping. Still forgot to order headphones.

    • +2

Slow down. Fap again at 6pm when $30 USD coupon goes live.

      • +2

He's already spent (on ozbargain today)

Instructions unclear. Wasn't the coupon that i fapped.

    • +2

      Unclear because of blurry vision?

  • +1

Anyone bought via Aliexpress before and had to claim warranty?

    • +2

Good luck to that is all we can say.

      • +4

The QC of hifiman has been a bit questionable for some headsets, so a bit concerned around that space.

        • You'll have no problem with a free return if you have any out of the box issues. Warranty claims will involve you shipping the headphones back to the seller.

    • +1

You will have send it back usually at your cost to get a replacement. This store has a good reputation and the rating and reviews are at 4.9 for service.

    • +2

Pretend you have no warranty. If you're happy with that, go for it. If not, don't.

  • +1

Great price, paid pretty much the same at release with a bunch of coupon stacking.. Love these cans.

    • Yea, it has had very favourable reviews for sound quality. For me, it's the cheapest way to get into the Egg shaped Hifiman sound that people rave about with the Ananda and the Arya.

Haven't heard "coupon fapping" before. New term to add to the ozbargain dictionary

I use USD to checkout when I shop on Aliexpress, the conversion with my bank card seems cheaper than using Aliexpress conversion to AUD or using Paypal. Just checkout with USD and pay with bank card I think for the lowest price.

Excellent cans, Paired with Matrix mini I3 pro-DAC & separate headphone amp (xduoo mt-604) balanced and they sound amazing.

Here's a more objective take on the Edition XS to pair with Josh's review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiU4O0gHOcM

I grabbed these at launch for about the same price, and it's a outstanding headphone for the price. I still use my 6XX as the daily driver, but when I want more detail and better imaging, I throw them on and it's amazing.

    • I just clicked and scrolled down to see of jazz wolf had arrived at the scene of the bargain. wasn't interested in headphones or anything.. but wow, has got jasswolf stamp of approval!

      • I was waiting patiently too. Jasswolf was the one that got my eye on it a few months ago. But as gushing reviews started coming out, specials dried up on this model and it was mostly RRP local and overseas so when the time was right to strike, I coupon fapped hard.

    • how is the build quality?

      • It won't win any German awards but is decent enough according to reviews. Also, Planar headphones are more delicate beasts. You can't throw rage throw them across the room like the Sennheisers. Jasswold has had his for a while, if you ask nicely, he might chime in.

      • It will feel flimsy in your hands, but it's built to seal on most heads for fantastic bass extension, but failing that provides a much lower resonance frequency than other HIFIMAN models. That's covered in the video I linked.

With respect to overall comfort, it's about as light and comfortable as it can be, and it's probably one of the most comfortable over-ear headphones without a self-adjusting headband I've used.

Again picking it up, it will feel like you're trying to loosely strap two speakers onto the side of your head, but it just rests in place. You can flex the headband to better adjust it for your head, it has plenty of lateral and vertical room for your ears, plenty of length adjustment and there's tilt and swivel for the earpads. It's a very economical design that delivers the driver coupling you want.

    • Thanks for your stamp of approval, I'm definitely more interested in these now. I bought the 6XX recently and have also read about instances such as yours in using X headphones as a daily drive and using X headphones for another purpose. When you say you want more detail and better imaging, is that for general day-to-day use, or are you referring to a more specialised application? I guess my question is this: as someone who uses my 6XX's broadly (music, movies and gaming), would you say that they could become redundant if I were to get these?

      • Gaming would be the primary one, but critical listening as well.

        • Are you using the stock Edition XS cable, you are happy with it? Or did you get something different?

          • +1

@dreamscene: Just using the stock cable so far, but I can tell it's a little flimsy with the earcup jacks. I'd imagine that's why people report an improvement when they move on from the stock cable.

            • @jasswolf: In some forums, users have reported some issues with the included cable and it's varying quality which can introduce imbalance issues. Solution is to scrub the Hifiman cable connectors with fine steel wool gently and then wipe it clean with alcohol. Apparently there is a fine coating of machining residue on it from factory. Had a chuckle when I read that but good thing to know for new owners from this deal.

    • what sources you using?

      • Tempotec Sonata E44

Khadas Tone Board into a Schiit Asgard 3 (previously into a JDS Labs Atom)

Nothing fancy with the music itself, though I could perceive changes moving from moderate to high quality streaming up to lossless FLAC.

Tried it out of my Galaxy S7 Edge too, but current draw was an issue there, making it sound notably scratchy and harsh. The Atom also had problems (and tonal/timbre issues), but was reasonably enjoyable.

Just a note, a friend mentioned he was slogged $17 AUD in foreign transaction fees using Westpac and USD currency in checkout. So if you are with Westpac, better to convert to Aliexpress AUD rates before checkout which is still a rip in Exchange rate conversion but not Westpac level rip, around A$10 instead of A$17 (Westpac). If you have 28 degrees Mastercard than of course you are sweet, no currency conversion fee charge and just checkout in USD for the best price.

  • this is not expired

    • please fix

  • Admin have locked the post so I can’t edit it. But yea, $30 USD coupon still works. There are other $30 coupons too from the link top of the post you can get. All good. AUD has gone down a little past 48hrs so expect to pay $10 more though.

  • Do they need a special amp? I do have a amp with my Sennheiser HD800.

    • What amp do you have? Anything that can run a HD800 is probably beefy enough to power this. These need an amp but it's not as power hungry as other Hifiman egg shaped headphones.

      • I have an OTL amp hand made in Poland, it's called Elise by Feliks Audio

        • With that setup, you need to buy better headphones than $600 Hifiman’s lol.

          • @dreamscene: LOL

I have been eyeing Focal Clear, spent recently to upgrade DAC.

            Thought to try the Planar.

I think the electro static phones need special amp, my friend has one. Never heard it.

  • Got mine delivered today. Everything seems great. Fake leather smells great lol. A few hours of break in sounds should open it enough to test the planar bass rumble. Looking forward to blasting it tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for sharing, purchsed today.

Use OD25 and store coupon to bring it down to $417 USD include GST, plus 5% cashback ($26 AUD) from cashrewards.
    $560 AUD after cashback

    • Me too. Could have been cheaper if the exchange rate had not gone up from 1.35 to 1.4 within the last 2 days.

  • Received mine yesterday. The tightness of the bass is just amazing.

  • Purchased one from amazon and another one from this deal. The Aliexpress one was delivered today. The Aliexpress Edition XS comes in a cheaper box compared to the Amazon Edition XS which was similar to the Sundara's box, but the headband bending radius is much smaller which results in the headband fully sitting on the skull, especially there are no gaps between Two plastic caps on two ends of the headband. The new batch has a much tighter clamp and is a better fit and considering it is $220 cheaper than the Amazon one, overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Curious. Why do you need 2 XS?
