Questions about Apple Magsafe Case and Accessories

Hi,

Hoping some fellow bargainers here (calling Apple fans) who have a magsafe compatible case.

Do any of these cases actually have magnets/metal in the case (or is it simply a white printed ring on third party cases like ESR?)

I am looking to add a wallet and alternate it with a portable magsafe charger.

Appreciate all constructive feedback and recommendations for cases, wallets (that double as a stand) and chargers.

For an Iphone 13 Pro.

Thanks in advance!

  • Yes, MagSafe cases for iPhone have a ring of magnets in it that lines up with the ring of magnets on the back of the iPhone itself. Without the magnets in the case the case will likely be too thick for the iPhone magnets to hold the magnets in the MagSafe charger in place. This is why MagSafe cases cost more than otherwise identical regular cases. If the case is thin enough it might still work, but if you want to use MagSafe to secure your phone to a mount on your car or something then you will want a MagSafe case.

You can get generic MagSafe cases. I use one and it works just fine.

  • I have both a leather and a silicone case for the iphone 12 (genuine apple), as well as an apple magsafe wallet, and a Cygnett magsafe battery pack and Mophee car mount. Both apple cases have actual magnets along with the wallet, my power bank and car mount. I thought magsafe was a bit of a gimmick at the start but as I've used it more and more, its defiantly convenient. I enjoy the magsafe wallet but am considering swapping back to a slim card wallet as even though I only mainly use three cards, I find that I have misplaced a few when I'm out, (nothing major but like a footy club card which can't be digitised etc.) and the fact that I don't have anywhere it put it when using the magsafe charger (bedside table is a bit small, with no storage). I'm looking into something like the journey 3 in 1 charger, as a solution as it can charge my watch and airpods as well. I find the apple silicone case wore really quickly ( less than 6 months) I started to notice little pieces missing etc, the leather one has held up better (I got it as a gift at christmas) and has only patinaed.

In terms of cases, I've heard really good reviews for the Nomad cases (was looking into one before I got the leather apple one) and the moment coloured ones. I wouldn't recommend a "thin" normal case with the wallet as even with a Spigen Liquid Air Case it slides off the phone. For wallets I've got a mate who has a spigen one and that seems quite good haven't tried it for myself. For a battery pack I would recommend the Cygnett Magnetic Wireless Power Bank as it can also be a regular type c power bank, or the ESR magsafe charger thingo, which is basically a magsafe puck with stand and DE attachable cable.
