release date dec?????????????????????? its only march

    • +33

Doesn't matter, with Amazon you are best off ordering ASAP. They don't take payment and it ensures if the price drops at any point that becomes the new purchase price. You can always just cancel the order prior to shipping.

      • -1

        pre orders matter

    • +6

It's a placeholder, not a real release date. It's been announced to come out in 2022 so they just put the latest possible date in 2022.

      • But there won't be a shortage of supply. So is $80 the price to pull the trig?

        • Amazon doesn't charge until it ships, so you can lock that price in, just in case it increases since. Easy as anything to cancel at the last minute if need be.

  • +3

May as well since you'll get the lowest price on release date with Amazon.

    • +1

Well, the lowest Amazon price. Might be cheaper at other retailers. Since Amazon don't charge until it ships you have nothing to lose though, can always cancel if someone beats it.

      • Might be cheaper at other retailers.

Amazon price matches those same retailers in any case and your preorder price will reflect that lower price without doing anything.

I'm surprisingly pumped for this game, kind of hope its good.

  • +36

Ever since Cyberpunk, I'd rather other peeps are the guinea pigs for this product on my behalf.

    • +16

I got my money back, but will never pre-order a game again.

      • +6

Glad you got your money back and glad you learnt the lesson. Nowadays, I wait for a year or so until the game heavily drops. I have enough to tide me over in the meantime and price difference for exactly the same game is ridiculous.

        • +7

I did this with Cyberpunk - got it for dirt cheap and with most of the unplayable bugs ironed out.
It's a real shame that they pushed it out in that state because it really is a good game. It could have been iconic..

          • +1

@leelemon: I will get cyberpunk when it hits $20 mainly because I have a few other games right now. Either way, anyone who bought it recently has gotten a good game.

        • +1

My first, and last, time ignoring my better judgement (and history) and doing a pre-order.

My experience with Witcher 3 was entirely enjoyable (and cheap) because the bugs had been worked out and I waited until the guinea pigs had effectively paid top dollar to be part of an open Beta version of the game.

I made a mistake with Cyberpunk and will never again.

        • +1

This is the way. My last mistake was paying full price for Fallout 76. The game was full of bugs and I got stuck on the main campaign due to a glitch. Came back to the game about two years later and was happy that the bugs that prevented me from proceeding were fixed.

Don't think I have purchased a game for full price since then and have played some of the best games for next to nothing.

Not buying a PS5 until there is a decent backlog of games and the consoles are more reasonably priced. Waiting for the slim edition because the current console is big and ugly.

          • +2

@Mr Haj: I’m not buying a ps5 because they’re usually sold out when I try but I’m going to tell people the same reason as you because it sounds better.

    • +6

I thought that about Elden Ring but was proven wrong and I bought it.

I hope this game is good - I'm a fairly big HP fan. In the LEGO HP games I generally just enjoy exploring the castle and seeing how they match up to the movies perfectly.

      • +1

Elden Ring is such a gem, I love it so much.
I know most people are anti-preorder. But if you're expecting to play the game on release day anyway, pre-order is typically cheaper then its price a few weeks later. Even this game I bet will go back to $109.95 (from $82.90) for months after.

        • Preordering is so unnecessary these days when it comes to games. Even with "release day" special editions, you can generally just walk into a store and buy it off the shelf with no trouble and you can get it quicker as pre orders can sometimes get delayed by the post.

          • +1

@Nebargains: I typically don't have time to go out and buy it from a store on release day, or if I do they are sold out. All my Amazon Preorders have arrived on the day of launch. These days I pre-order out of convenience, as it is typically the cheapest you can get a game for at least the first few weeks.

This looked really barebones just showing features on the ps5 reveal. people are actually crazy if they are buying it without waiting for more actual gameplay.

      • +2

They released over 10 minutes of gameplay footage. In that regard it's actually one of the most comprehensive release announcements I've ever seen:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFTK6ZKva6o&t=167s

        • nah don't be fooled. there is only a bit of wand combat that they show (which looks unbalanced tbh unless enemies are generally wandless in the game). aside from that they just show environments and accio things. they show no gameplay that actually involves moving about or exploring, but just show off features/cutscenes. It means that the game is likely barebones in terms of content. i wouldnt be suprised if it moves to 2023

          • -1

@bgbrendan: This far from launch most companies just give you a pre-rendered teaser trailer with zero real-time rendered content. They've a heap of development time up their sleeve, so you shouldn't be expecting to see balanced combat this far from launch; there's likely significant changes to mechanics in the works. My point was that they've shown off much more than you typically see during an initial game announcement. In that regard they should be commended, people pre-order having seen much less.

    • I pre ordered for $59 and still really enjoyed it on ps5 after day 1 patch. Then played it through again with latest patch. I paid $79 for dying light 2 and greatly regret that.

    • +1

Can only imagine what the GT7 people feel like after that horrid launch.

  • I’ve got so many games to play…maybe I’ll try and get through them before this comes out

  • +4

I should finish Elden ring by the time this is released

  • +13

Damn $82 is a deal these days.

    • +1

Part of the reason I'm more interested in the Steam version myself, what with the plethora of key sites and discounts we usually get over console.

The other part is modding potential :D

  • That mermaid bath!

  • +2

    Wicked thanks

  • This looks awesome

  • +1

I'm having second thoughts after being let down by gran turismo 7, but since amazon let me return it over 2 weeks later no questions asked. Why not, I'll be a beta tester again.

  • Thanks OP, happy to pay this price and can always return it if need be..

  • Is this confirmed to only come out on PS5? I would rather play on my PC if so

    • +1

      It's on everything, even Switch

      • Awesome! Thanks I forgot I saw it on steam awhile ago. Hope game turns out good

  • +5

I suggest people watch the recent 'State of Play' for this game, does a fantastic job of detailing what the game is about.

Wish more games were presented in that fashion.

  • Finally!

  • -4

Feels like I'm too old to still be playing harry potter games. Kinda wished EA did a game like this back in the days when they had the license

    • +8

Too old? As in you are about to die before it comes out?

    • +1

You wish a gaming company that caters to sports games made an older version of Harry potter? EA would probably be the worst company to make a game like this

      • EA used to make a few of the main Harry Potter games (non Lego ones) but they were following the movies so didn’t really take off.

    • I'm in my 30s and still playing Pokemon games. I would argue HP appeals to a bigger age demographic again. Just do what makes you happy :\

  • +3

I hope you can play as gandalf the grey at some stage during the game.

    • -1

      That's LOTR…

    • +2

I heard the final boss is Jon Snow.

      • He is an easy boss. You just need to quiz him and he gets absolutely obliterated.

      • Nah the final boss is Thanos.

    • +1

      Your a wizard Gandalf..

    • Yeah, or at the very least Radagast the brown

    • +15

Get over it, she doesn't need your money anyway.

    • +6

if you really felt so strongly against her you wouldn't play this game lmao

sounds like you just want an excuse to play the game without buying it

  • any pc vr version ?

  • +3

Xbox Series X version still $109. Hopefully it goes down as well.

  • Waiting for the switch version

      • +1

bugger i didnt have enough time to check it. Cheers

  • Waiting for Eneba Argentinian code for XSX for $40

  • Off topic, I haven't been following any ps5 threads but in general are ps5 consoles still hard to get?

I'm waiting until maybe there's in-store stock or maybe wait until the ps5 slim or whatever the next one is.

    • Yes, still at the stage where you can call a retailer to ask them if they have a PS5 and be laughed at before being hung up on.

  • +3

Never pre order - Cyberpunk & Battlefield 2042 say hello

    • -1

      Cyberpunk is fantastic.

  • +2

    Stop preordering games people

  • +1

I see we still haven't learnt not to pre-order games

  • Big pass on being on a pre-sale guinea pig wheel. Give em money now, vaporware, 10/10 reviews before anyone sees it then a cup full of disappointment. No, don't be a sucker. I like the look of this one and will get it.. A month after release date unless its yet another stinker.
