Yeah, but coffee is decent and shipping times are insanely quick. And since you guys scared Manna Beans off by being jerks about a piece of paper…..

      • Does it mean they were "ethically" roasted coffee beans?

        …ok I'll see myself out

      • +2

I miss those Manna beans deals!

      • +1

Case in point. Ordered at 9:45pm last night, 7:25am this morning got the email saying order is packed and ready for dispatch with tracking details. Most likely will arrive tomorrow unless the Auspost truck takes a detour through Uluṟu.

    • coffee too bitter for you?

  • +5

These guys are great quality and value.
Roast date was around 1 week prior it arrived which is great.
I enjoy the mellow yet flavorsome "Pegasus" on the French press.
And their shipping is Turbo! I think it was like 72hrs to WA.

  • Thanks for posting, would have loved to try it but currently have 6x pre order from LB

  • I asked in the forum last week about getting some coffee beans that are not bitter eg like the coffee at Ferguson’s Plarre or Daniels donuts. It has some chocolate after taste but they don’t put any chocolate in it.
Does anyone recommend something similar beans from these guys?

    • +1

Enterprise, more subtle and soft flavours, not too harsh or bitter, and chocolatey after notes.

    • Some of the beans from vietnam taste like this. Cheap and cheerful.

    • +2

So far I've found their Colombia to the most chocolatey, vs Twilight and Enterprise that I remember from recent times.

I gotta say though my favourite on that mocha front is the Aldi Colombia or Honduras (I don't remember which one it was), even though it's a supermarket bean. But it's one of the seasonal ones.

      • Aldi Colombia is my fav at the mo cause Im poor and it has been in lately, so good.

        • What's the Aldi Columbia roast level?

          • @Fobsessive: Says on the pack that its a medium roast.

    • +1

Lots of factors can come into play that can make coffee bitter. For example how fresh the beans are, too fresh and they will taste a bit bitter, too old and they might lose some of their flavor and taste a bit bitter, the grind and the time taken to do a shot of coffee also factors, too long and it will probably be bitter, too short and it will be watery.

In general I find that beans from South America when used right generally have sweeter flavors than beans from Africa but any seasonal blend will do. I normally aim for beans that are 10-15 days after roasting date and look for a 2:1 yield (18-19g in and 36-38g out) in about 28-32 seconds.

Ooft 30% off decaf that's rare.
Just bought the Sumatra deal but placed another order for Twilight and Decaf.
Ships fast, beans are fresh, great price, and customer service is responsive and friendly.

I am putting another order in for twilight too, I think that's my fave airjo blend

  • Can anyone share their settings for AirJo beans for a BES870 struggling to tweak my machine to get maximum expresso range.

    • +2

Every machine / grinder is calibrated different, need to achieve 18gm In, 40gm Out, in 25-30 sec. So adjust your grind setting to suite. However BES870 has no OPV (or not adjustable) so probably to achieve this you need to have gauge needle at 2-3 O'clock during extraction.

      • Coffee newbie here but if the pressure isn't high enough then wouldn't the water flow through the coffee too quickly making it difficult to achieve 40gm in 25-30 seconds?

I have the Infuser and experience this issue sometimes and don't know how to resolve it (considering the OPV adjustment mod)

        • +1

Ideal extraction pressure should be ~ 9bar, the Express and probably Infuser, don't have adjustable OPV to limit the pressure. In reality, to achieve this parameter you would end up extracting at 13bar, which may result to bitter taste. I upgraded my machine to Italian DB machine, but prior to that I adjusted my old Express OPV to limit the pressure by way of cutting the spring length and it limited the pressure to ~11 O'clock. It improved the taste & extraction, but lead to too much water in the waste tray and did not cost any $$.

      • That’s what I’m aiming for 2-3 o’clock but finding it difficult to hit that the whole way through.

        • What issue do you have? you need to grind finer to get to this. Make sure to grind freshly roasted beans, What tarken proposed below comment is a good start for you (grind setting of 3 with 18.5g in to get 40-45g out in 30-35 sec.) If it runs too fast & not enough pressure you need to grind finer ie 2 or even 1 (make sure to use the single wall basket)

    • I use a grind setting of 3 with 18.5g in to get 40-45g out in 30-35 sec.

      • Is the grind amount at 3’o clock and extraction at 3 as well?

They don’t give out free jellybeans with your order anymore. Those jellybeans really sweetened the deal.

    • +2

      I prefer coffee

  • Looking forward to trying the decaf!

  • Hey peeps any recommendation for which beans to use with an espresso machine?

We got a gifted delonghi magnifica s recently and I have no idea what I'm doing :)

    • +4

Store rep recommended ENTERPRISE BLEND for cappuccino / white based coffee as a start.

      • Excellent thanks all (oogabooga and DJR as well) I've ordered some enterprise to start with and may pick up Columbia on the next deal :)

        Thanks again!

    • The beans here are great. All will work well. There is a recipe on the pack advising ideal pour time etc. You will have to adjust your grind settings to suit. Enterprise blend would probably be the best starting point.

    • Enterprise or Colombia are good starting points IMO. Just got some fresh Colombia today after ordering on Tuesday

  • Thanks OP just ordered the enterprise blend usually get my coffee from Aromas in Brisbane hopefully it's just as good !

  • Damn, $5 cheaper than the kg of Sumarta I got delivered yesterday

10/10 would recommend these guys though. Overnight fresh beans to Brisbane is so good.

  • +1

Totally recommend Airjo coffee beans. I ordered on Tuesday and got delivered on Wednesday.
My partner and I love the Thurderchild and Timor blends.

  • Ordered from these guys a handful of times. Initially, I was getting Enterprise, but I recently switched to Twilight. I find them pretty similar, but I think I prefer the smoothness of the latter in general. I also feel like Twilight has a slightly stronger chocolate flavour, although other commenters seem to have the opposite experience. Shipping has been super fast, and when they messed up one of my orders, they replied to my email instantly and delivered a free kilo within ~24 hours.

    • yeah been getting twilight for over a year now best light roast I have ever had. Great for cappuccinos in the morning and espresso shots during the day. When done right its suppose to tast sweet and smooth, if done wrong it will be either sour or bitter. just make sure you set the right settings for light roast on you espresso machine.

  • score!! perfect timing I needed a refill on twilight beans :D my favorite light roasted coffee :D

  • These folks are the Amazon of coffee - shipping is uber fast. There are better roasters out there though! Coffee o cue & lime blue are better imo.

  • Thanks keen to try out a new blend with this deal.

  • +1

Any new deals with these guys? Missed the last one.
