reviews for the netbook are pretty "ouch".

eg "The Toshiba AC100 is an impractical curio that no one should spend their money on."

It's good that OP stated "Seems pretty good deal who need it"
Some things that hit me straight away:
    CPU: NVIDIA TEGRA 250
RAM: 512MB on board with no expansion option
OS: ??? (later found to be Android 2.1!)
    Why????

    • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is available (xda-devs) with working HQ Video acceleration too.

(re: ac100) Seems to be a good price but no something you should actually buy :P

  • Quite tempted to get the Libretto, looks like the U5400 is a bit faster than my S10-3's Atom N455.

    • I have a Libretto (Purchased at Harvey Norman for $600 last year). It's probably the coolest gadget I've ever seen, but the most useless.

Battery life is the real killer - maybe ~2.5 hours with the large battery (which sticks out from the bottom). The slim battery would be lucky to get a single hour.
Screens are excellent quality, Toshi's touch software is OK but Windows 7 isn't really suited to touch. Couldn't get drivers for Windows 8 beta. Also gets extremely hot, as in too hot to hold with the fun getting pretty loud.
Performance is pretty bad. Processor is better than most netbooks, 2gig of ram is soldered on, graphics chip can't keep up with 2 high res screens. Remember the SSD is soldered onto the board.

The form factor is really great, and i'd like to see another model some time, but for actual work it's pretty much worthless

      • An hour battery on a portable device? I can't comprehend why a company would even bother releasing a product with such a fatal flaw.

Fair enough if it's just a proof of concept, but to take it to market? I'd be filthy if I was a Toshiba shareholder.

        • 2 screens + cpu 3 generations old = end result.

Would have been better if one of the screens was e-ink even though it would look wierd.

      • Wow, how'd you get it for $600 from HN last year when it's $721 from MSY right now? Did I miss a bargain last year?

        • Heard it on Ozbargain , %50 off dual core laptops or something. Retail was $1600 , was selling for $1200

Honestly it never should have been released in this state. Very few were made afaik; I've hear numbers as low as 30,000

  • So AC100 is pretty much an even slower netbook that only runs Android out of the box and doesn't have touch screen for Android apps?

    • It's not necessarily slower.
      It's a dual-core ARM, completely different to x86 chips.

The lack of a touchscreen for any screen running Android is always amusing.

This is potentially the lightest 'netbook' on the market, at ~800gm.

  • Doesn't seem like it's discounted…

    • In store only perhaps.
