Together might make a cheap set up for a roof tray.

    • +1

Are the two compatible with each other?
(The reason I ask is I've bought the Rola roof rack, then realised the roof rack bars are these Prorack ones)

      • +1

That's why I said might. They are many to be compatible across brands but there might be exceptions

      • Let me know how you get on - because I'm VERY tempted to buy this combination.

        • I'm going on Sunday to ask them before I pick up my click and collect roof rack

          • @mandelbrot: I'm thinking I'm going to head in today to see what I can find out… I've realised since commenting that that Rola Titan can mount directly to some cars using a Low Mount Kit … Only problem is Rola's fitting guide doesn't even list my car (Mk2 VW Tiguan)!

  • +1

A few comments on the website say this doesn't make up everything needed to have roof racks actually installed and mounted on the car.. Not sure on validity but keep in mind if it isn't a total cost for all parts needed.

    • +4

Correct! You need the fitting kit (aka legs) for these, which are specific to each car.

      Great price tho!

      • Even if the car has roof mounted rails ? Do you still need the legs ?

        • +1

You need the fitting kit for the specific vehicle. That may be legs for some or some kind of bracket to attach to roof rails etc for others.

        • Yes. You’ll need specific ones whether your roof mounted rails are flush or raised with a gap.

      • With the fitting kits, would you still need someone to install it to your car or is it fairly straight forward?

        • Looks like an easy DIY job, check youtube.

    • Yes. Fitting kits are extra . They around 60 to 80 dollars.

      • Definitely extra, and found out my car has a 2-3 month lag time to get them in… Fortunately Rhino Rack has its 25% off ending today.

      • $79 for the fitting kit.

        • Hey where did you find the fitting kit? I'm browsing SCA website and couldn't find them

          • @Arese: Should be the Yakima kit. Last time I was browsing it was there

            • @aphexx: SCA auto called to say my fitting kit (K902) wasn't in stock nor at supplier and would take months to obtain. Cancelled the kit order and obtained from A1 Roofracks (for a couple of dollars less - including shipping).

  • Great! Thanks! Bought. (With Shopback). Fitting kit for my car was $91. Great you should be able to just get a new fitting kit if you change cars.

    • +1

It depends on the width of your car and if you change from a medium to large car, then you will probably need a longer bar to suit.

    • Where did you find the fitting kit? Can't find them on supercheapauto
      Thanks

Buy through their eBay page for $16 cheaper with code topitup and use discounted GC.

    • Real deal in the comment!

    • +1

Thanks. Just did what you did, and got it for $180.31 (with 2% off GC via Macquarie Bank online banking). Missed using the Ebay Plus voucher code but that may have invalidated the TOPITUP code. Used Shopback but not counting on getting any CB as so many unlisted codes were used.

it's odd that SCA don't sell the fitting kits (that I can find). are these easy enough to install yourself or do you need to get a professional? I have a 2008 Corolla hatchback

    • Here

Tape measure (for positioning), 2 arms and half a brain should be all that's required.

      • I only see the racks and not the fitting kits. I think perhaps since I've entered my car model so it's filtering out the ones that don't fit it. So I'd need to buy it elsewhere.

        Cheers

        • I had the same problem, their search functionality is rubbish.
Use prorack's car lookup to find the kit name then use the googs to find an SCA or Repco listing for it.

          • @schquid: Thanks man for the prorack's website. I was having difficulties finding the right fitting kit for my car on SCA website.

        • Apologies, the link didn’t save my search filter.

I think you need these but double check before buying.

    • Mounting Kit

I DIY these aero racks last year on my XTrail. Know little about cars and never done it before. Took me probably 3x the time than normal, but got there eventually.

  • I’ve never used roof racks and worried the about the road noise on my already noisy Mazda 3 2015.
Can you remove the racks and just plug it when you need it?

    • Depending on the type of roof mounts you have, yes it should be as easy as plug and play. I have an I30n with roof racks that grapple onto the door frame. To remove them, I release the grips and pluck them off the roof. They stay in one piece so I just need to slide them back on for the next trip. No matter which racks you get, you'll always have some extra noise. There are various types of racks and accessories which reduce the drag and in turn the noise but it'll never be as quiet as not having any.

Looks like you will be left with a hole in the rail cover as it doesnt look like Mazda have provided access holes and you have to drill a hole yourself. Strange as i know some Mazdas had access holes with covers before 2015. After the initial installation, it is easy to remove and re-fit. Just install a threaded rod in each corner, fit roof rack in place and use wingnuts to secure by hand.

      • My CX-5 fitting kit K720 came with a drill bit to drill holes ito the gutter covers and rubber grommets to plug the holes when you take the bars off. Alternatively, Mazda spare parts sell the gutter strips with removable covers for ~$55.

Also if you're not in a rush, you can get the fitting kits special ordered in as part of the 40% off storewide sales. I got mine in the last sale for ~$50(from $90) and found a used pair of the prorack bars for $55 off eBay.

        • Just saw the plugs in the contents of the instructions. My car came with removable covers so never needed them.
Cheapest when SCA sales line up with ebay sales but doesnt look like there are 20% anymore as the last was only 15%.

  • Heads up, repco have some promotions on fitting kits but you need to order the kit online

  • Are these suitable for a pensioner to use on a rav4?

    • +1

Rack is universal fitment but you also need a figment kit to attach it. Kit costs another $70-$100 depending on the car. Check the pro rack link above to find which kit suits you. Pretty good price for the new rack as people seem to be flipping their old racks on marketplace for this kind of money.

  • Get them before MarksMarkdownMarket claims them all.

  • Bought racks and fittings kit, thanks

    • Pulled a trigger as well.

  • Any recommendations or suggestions regarding this roof pod, also on sale - https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/prorack-prorack-exp360-r… ?

    • Nothing really much to roof pods other than one that can be opened on either side, which this one does.

Other things to consider is the size suitable for your purpose, and whether you need additional straps, tie down points, and ones that are suitable for skis (longer pods).

      • Thanks for the input. This one looks on the smaller size - 360L - but is a helluva lot cheaper than Thule etc larger ones.
