Sony A80J 77" Bravia XR OLED 4K Google TV $5318 + Delivery @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Required)

660

First time posting here, but been watching the 77 inch OLED prices for a while and thought this was worth sharing. Lowest price I’ve seen without the bonus gift cards etc.

While you need TGG Commercial membership to access price, I’ve attached the screenshot which you might be able to use in store to negotiate. Can’t find any stores for click and collect in Syd area, but $55 delivery isn’t too bad.

Hopefully someone can get a price match in store, which I’ve done with the commercial prices before.

Good luck!

  • Nice first post. Congrats!

Have you had any luck price matching GG commercial with JB-HFi?

  • Does it change the terms of warranty because it is purchase from a "commercial" channel and therefore deemed commercial use?

I have only bought consumables from GGC (filters, batteries, etc), basically low value items not worth of price matching.

    • Nope same warranty its just commercial pricing

      • Good to know. My friend bought a pressure washer, because it was shipped to the workshop (even thought he's only the accountant there), they tried not to honour the warranty. At the end they did out of "good faith" but the time he wasted probably can buy a new one.

        • Yeah I know Bunnings have similar rules too

  • Can anyone check what the price of the G1 77" is at TGG commercial?

    • +1

The 77G1 isn't available on TGGC unfortunately, neither is the C1.

        Bugger thanks for checking.

I managed to get this one from Bing Lee - you need to add in $40 delivery, so net cost is $5035. It was only for about one day that the 1000 gift card was available. I've applied for the card, yet to receive it - expect it about the middle of the month.
As an aside, Bing Lee deliver crazy fast. I purchased this about 9pm on a Sunday, the TV arrived about 8:30am on the Monday.

      • Gift card is still available according to the website

“Purchase a Sony 77" A80J OLED TV (XR77A80J) (“Qualifying Products”) and receive a Bonus $1000 Digital Pre-paid Mastercard. Promotion available on Qualifying Products purchased between 31/03/22 to 18/04/22 or while stocks last”

        • +1

Yeah, just noticed that. When I did it last Sunday, they said it was only going to be available until midnight. Hrmph - so much for that.
Reading the terms and conditions, I think it is available until 18 April - unless sold out I guess.

      • Binglee shows price of 5495, how did u get it for $5035?

  • How is Android TV though compared to webos or tizen? While I like Android I heard their os for TV is not that good.

    • +1

We have a Sony Android TV, not the smoothest user experience. The software is fine when it works, but it requires reboot regularly, not sure if it's the TV or buggy software.

The most common issue we encounter is when watching YouTube we can't get back to TV channels. EPG works, but after selecting a channel it goes back to YouTube.

Powering off/on doesn't fix it, need to go to system menu then restart. Can be annoying when you just want to quickly watch the news but wasting time restarting the TV.

It's an older TV though, 5 years, things should have improved.

From my experience webos has been great! Samsung on the other hand was very buggy.

      • One up on this. Mine it’s a bit ridiculous though. Every time i plugged in the ethernet my whole orbi system freeze. Unplug it and it works fine.

    • i have a 2020 sony 75" with android tv. very smooth and would prefer it over any other OS - easy to cast from your phone and appstore has things like nbatv which you can just nab.

    • This has a Google Tv platform instead of Android TV. I’d prefer Android and it has less ‘Ads’.

  • we paid $3K delivered for a new SONY 65" A80J a few months ago

happy with - it only requires rebooting (unplug from wall power/wait/plug back in restart - due to all the computer stuff) every 1-2 weeks …

    • +6

      For a $3k TV that's a bit of a joke.

      • Unfortunately it's true. I paid $5,900 for the 77" A80J and I'd say it's at least once every 2 weeks it needs a full restart multiple times I've had to unplug it completely. Sometimes that doesn't even help and all connected devices also need to be unplugged from the TV as well for at least 15 minutes.

Amazing TV in almost all other respects and the picture quality still amazes me, but Google TV is an absolute disgusting joke.

    • Had the same problem with my old Samsung 65hu9000! That's super annoying! LG os is much better for this I never had to restart it. Worst case scenario you just force close an app (e. G. Netflix)

    • Every 1-2 weeks. That’s crap. I wouldn’t be happy with that

    • +1

You can just hold the power button in on the remote and it gives the option to reboot the TV. I have to do it occasionally because the wifi won't connect on my A90J.

    • Where did you get that price?

  • Does OLED still have that screen burn in issue?

    • +1

I am using Sony A1 OLED since 2018. 4 years of heavy usage (Avg 12 hours runtime a day since March 2020 when WFH started) and haven’t noticed any burns.

But I also don’t watch any channels with static logos. I switch among YouTube, Netflix, Prime, Apple TV+, sometimes Free to Air Channels.

      • same here had the a1 same time and no burn in anywhere, dont watch fta at all

  • Partner price is $4079 delivered @ Sony with Bonus Remote (RMFTX500PB) in case anyone is associated with Sony directly or indirectly

    • Wow thats an amazing price, how do you even become a partner with Sony?

      • Financial services, media, marketing partnerships etc. Make an account with your work email and you'll know if you're a partner or not.

        • Is there a list for the partner program? thanks

    • -1

      what so $4000 on the 77 A80J

I"m on the partner page, price doesn't exist. Take a screenshot to prove it mate.

        Why would I lie..

Clearly different partnerships have different levels of discounting

how did you get on the partner page?

    Great deal!

For anyone out there trying to decide, the LG G1 was on sale a couple of days ago for $5,400. Note that that’s the G1, and not the C1.

I don’t game, and only watch TV and movies. While people say that the A80J is better than the C1 for movies and TV, I was curious about how the G1 compares.

    Ratings has a comparison feature:
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-g1-oled-vs-sony-a…

What I found interesting is that the G1 beats out the A80J for reflections, which is highly important to me as my living room is bright and cannot be dimmed. When looking at my TV even with bright sunlight, the picture looks amazing. The review also shows the G1 to be as good for HDR movies, and it does have greater max brightness.

Perhaps this all makes sense, given the G1 is the top-tier LG model, against the A80J, which is the second-tier Sony model.

The Sony would still have the edge for upscaling, as it has the superior XR cognitive chip, which is better than LG’s offering.

Anyway, I’m not trying to distract or to take away from this offer, but am just putting this out there for anyone in the same position as me. It’s hard to make decisions when the argument is dumbed down to simply: LG = games; Sony = movies/TV

That might have applied to the C1 vs. the A80J, but I think the argument gets narrower when you’re comparing with the G1.

Anyway, I hope that helps anyone in the same position. Thanks for reading. Check out the rtings comparison and look at the actual scoring.

    • What you say here pretty much sums it up, with the following addition in bold: LG = games; Sony = movies/TV/sport

  • The sony's are suppose to have better oled motion handing and better out of the box(non calibrated) picture, the LG C's have black crush out of the box, so if itsw just movies, go sony but lg is more well rounded.

    • Would the Sony be better for watching sport?

They were more than happy to price match, cheers mate. Was planning to get the tv for RRP yesterday anyway!
